First, the basics:

OK, for all, let me introduce the general concept.

Every person who wishes to post a picture (or pictures), in any medium from pencil to pastel, from photoshop to photography proper. You must then post your entries in this thread (which will be stuck at the top of the Drawing Board).

Your vote counts!

Then, on the 25th of each month, the window for posting your entries closes, and I'll throw the voting open to everybody on Toon Zone, even those who haven't posted a picture, to sudmit their votes to me (and from now on, voting for your own picture isn't allowed!).

If you have submitted multiple entries, contact the mod in charge of the thread (SJJ for this month sjj@toonzone.net (sjj@toonzone.net)) either by email, PM or thread post and say which of your entries you want put forward to the poll.

The system will be familiar to those of you who have taken part in the Cafe's Avatar contests: There are three catogories we want you to vote for:

Colour (use of colour and shading)
Pencils (The drawing of the picture, the composition)
Concept (The idea, how it relates to the monthly theme)

Give your favourite piece for each catagory - Three votes for your favourite, your second favourite two votes, and your third favourite one vote. Make sure you do this for each catagory(Pencils/Colour/Concept)

And the winner is..!
Then, on around the last day of the month, voting will be closed, and we will declare the winner of each catagory:

Best Colourist for June
Best Pencils for June
Best Concept for June

All based on your votes. We will then tell you who amassed the most votes overall as well!

For more details on the rules changes - pop here. Comments and queries can be posted in the thread. http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?threadid=77500

And the theme for JUNE is (to quote Miss Gordon):

Disney!

That way you can draw characters, human or animal, a spoof or parody, something relating to Disney/Disneyland/etc. in ANY way, and so on and so forth.

We look forward to all your entries! Spread the word! Lets see what we can do!!

Can we draw stuff that Disney owns the rights to?

lol, I'm both eager and very very afraid to see what Delia will produce. And yes, anything related to Disney, which can include Pixar and other such things. If Disney has their hand in it somehow, then you can draw it/use it in the picture. That can involve movies, sports teams, cartoons, merchandise, etc.

Wait. "Best Pencils"? That makes no sense. I've yet to see a single person who just had a black and white drawing. They...oh, I get it. Do you mean the picture that had the best linework, ignoring the color of it?

EDIT: Oh, you wrote it right there. Duh me. >kicks head cold<

LOL oh man....

There will be ONE PICTURE.... one heck of a picture... and I am putting an amazing amount of work and detail into it... so I wont let myself make too much stuff.

I might do some silly things to get people to laugh as side things but I am only having one possible entry. I will get the pencils, inks, and colored versions up so you can see how I'm gdoing it too... lol.

the layout will be comic-styled. Thats all I can say now.... hehehehe (puts on lab coat and runs off to do some mad science stuff...)

(runs back)

almost forgot.....

MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

oh one question...

That way you can draw characters, human or animal, a spoof or parody, something relating to Disney/Disneyland/etc. in ANY way, and so on and so forth.

I take this to mean Walt DIsney himself is fair game... am I wrong?

Outlander00
06-05-2003, 04:47 PM
ACK!! Rather vague, dont you think? :p

Ah well... I'm game... Hell, I might give my new Wacom a spin with it :p

James

I take this to mean Walt DIsney himself is fair game... am I wrong?

Is anything more game that Walt? He is after all, Disney personified... (or is that the mouse? I always get the two mixed up...)

*CRACKS KNUCKLES* Well let's get this contest underway. I have so many bland ideas - if only I could amass them into one MEDIOCRE idea, then I'd be cookin'.

Dee
06-05-2003, 11:45 PM
Well I finished the pencil, scanned it and saved it.

Im so proud of myself for not inking IMMEDIATELY....

lol.

Would it ruin the cool if I showed you the pencil? I wouldn't mind getting some feedback and suggestions.

Are we allowed to get feedback and suggestions on preliminary versions of it?

James
06-06-2003, 03:31 AM
Sure! This thread is now a anything goes! If people want to show ideas - go for it! You'll have to choose what goes into voting, so this thread is just getting the stuff together and having fun!

Outlander00
06-06-2003, 07:49 AM
*cackles evily* I have one idea so far! Though, I probably wont use it for the final voting... :D

Dee
06-06-2003, 12:08 PM
ok, the joke will be ruined by the time the final version comes out, but eh--- I want to see what you guys think.

I went comic book style for this one. 3 panels and a very short scene...

I always felt that MIB the animated series would have made the best comic book. MIB was spawned of comics, and the cartoon was often compared to a comic.

Now... the theme was Disney... I got Disney in there... literally. I didnt want one single picture so I made the 3 panels and the joke.

hehe... "Meanwhile in Zeeltor's Lab..."

http://www.mibhq.com/pencil1.jpg

I spent a while plotting out Zeeltors Lab from the Tech drawing I had gotten from the crew of the show. I tweaked it a bit, and based the rest off the final parts in the show.

I will ink this, clean it up and then color via Photoshop. I'm thinking of changing Walt's "hi" to "hello" (sounds more Walt formal).

I am in love with the first panel though. The Lab, Zeeltor and Jay are my favorite and they look like they did in the show.

I based Walt's face off a smiling photo of him and I did the Futurama preserved talking head joke... I was ORIGINALLY going to do the "Cryogenically frozen head of Walt Disney" joke but the talking head is happier and heck.... it TALKS! I will tweak that too. This is a messy pencil.

*sigh* lol I'm twisted.

whadda ya think?

TimTwoFace
06-06-2003, 12:20 PM
*CROSSES ARMS AND TAPS FOOT* Delia, that's really cute, but...you stole my idea! :p Now I gotta go back to the drawing board, all over again...

Nice job, though. Walt must be spinning in his cryogenic grave. :)

-Tim

James
06-06-2003, 12:30 PM
Hehe, wise to get this in early, as I think Walt was going to be a prime candidate for the theme!

I like the first panel too. Seeing the 'rough' is great. I love seeing how people work! As this comp now deals with concept, pencils and colours seperately, we can see roughs without damaging the chances of the pic! Well done for getting the ball rolling Del!

Barb Gordon
06-06-2003, 01:47 PM
lol, I'm loving it Delia! Get that inked and colored right away! I've had something sketched myself, for over a week now....*kicks scanner* but my scanner hasn't allowed me to scan anything for a couple of days.

Dee

lol

i'm sorry if I used people's ideas.... It was this or make the mouse in black and they already did that back in 1998 for a Mac wallpaper theme set.

LOL. I will ink and start coloring. Work will be insane this weekend but I can take some time on it.

Hilarious comes to mind when I read this. Cant wait to see it in color! :D

Delia - great idea, and the ink looks great - can't wait to see the colored version! And I love the idea of Walt's head ending up in Zeeltor's lab - lol, that is just too perfect! :D

Now, to go and see if I can make my own evil idea work. . . Hmmm. . . :D

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you pimp-master Stitch! (In rough sketch form.) :D

http://www.sknightsanctuary.com/pics/ns/stitch.jpg

I know, their heads are a bit big. But, hey, it's not bad for an hour. The ladies from left to right are: Princess Ariel, Princess Jasmine, and Cinderella! (You know, even though I'm not experienced in this style, I really like it. It's like anime, only rounder and puffier. >smiles<)

All in all, not bad for about 45 minutes worth of sketching. :)

James
06-07-2003, 01:38 PM
Yesss... *rubs chin* I want to be Stitch. Very nice idea. I like. Lots. Look forward to seeing it progress.

Barb Gordon
06-07-2003, 04:28 PM
ooo, I'm loving it SK! Stitch looks awesome, and I think Jasmine and Ariel are looking great, heads don't seem to big. That's going to look just fantastic when colored. As for me...*glances at scanner in fireplace* I'm going to take a while.

In the fireplace? Man Barb, maybe that is why it's not working. :D

Hey SK, awesome pic! To be honest, I don't think I'll be able to definitely tell who is Cinderella and who is Ariel until you colour it, as I can't see which one has more skin and fin showing...but they look great. I like how you employed the "Lilo & Stitch" style to all the classic Disney beauties.

Stitch sure is a lucky little whatever-the-hell-he-is. :D

SilverKnight - looks fantastic so far: a great concept which I can't wait to see colored! (What's that? I have to wait? Well, I guess if I have to. . .)

Outlander - LOL, that is not only well done, but really, really funny. . . and kinda scary too! :D

Patrick Star - great rendering of the cast from "Nightmare. . ."; it's gonna look wonderful when it's colored! :)

OMG they're all so good and so funny - who am I gonna vote for? *brain implodes*

Okay, here's mine. My excuse is that my daughter's home sick so I had an hour or so to spare which is why it looks so rushed & crummy... (I even raided her pencil case for colours too :o ) actually I'm kidding myself, all my artwork looks this rushed & crummy :D and as I said in the 'introduce yourself thread', I can't do backgrounds or perspective and it shows but doodling about makes me happy and I guess that's what counts in the end :)

PS its red n yellow paint on Mike, honest, Kitty's not that bad

Del - The colour is great! Really brings the animated feeling out!
Patrick - Lol. I still need to see that film *blush* Nice line up mate!
SK - Wonderful as always. What a great atmosphere - the sky really gives that pic the 'wannabeonholiday' vibe!
Rune - Great pic - that's three Brits who submit to the drawing comps! That's a very high percentage of Brits at TZ involved in art (don't forget Amazing Spidey (RedBird) and good old Frozen *waves).

Oh and me!! :D

Sorry for my lack of depth to my replies.. been pretty busy!! I love seeing all these pencil pics - I;m sooo glad we changed the rules to allow this!! It was SK's idea to change the policy on pic submissions to everyone give her a cookie!

Langden. Woah. I like it. Nice choice of characters. I'm sure there is underlying message that goes beyond my current feeble fatigued brain! I agree with Outlander, use of colour is very effective! Character rendition is good too.

Langden - I love how all your pics make such great use of such few colours! Also nice to see that I'm not the only one doing a Batman-related Disney pic, too. :) Poison Ivy IS quite vain like the Witch from Snow White, now that I think about it...

Okay folks, here is my very first entry in the monthly contests!
In my pic, one of the evil Disney execs has opened the Disney vault to tell the characters that they are getting crappy sequels. You can tell by their expressions that they are not happy. Hope you like!
http://www.geocities.com/spider_pyro17/discon.txt

My thoughts: I know Hercules doesn't really have a sequel, but I wanted to draw him, and he'll probably be getting a sequel soon anyway. :p
I think it's fairly obvious which movies I haven't seen by looking at the quality of the characters. I had to use reference pictures for a lot of the characters.

I LOVE the expression on Peter Pan's face, and Herc and Aladdin look dead on. Great job. :)

love it! Great job Pyro. The colors are very good and you did all the characters designs perfectly.

hehe, neat one Langden! Very unique concept.

grrr, I am so frustrated with my scanner! I so wanted to participate in this thread. I've had the pic done for a month, the sketch at least since I wanted to color it using PS....and I can't get it up! *cries*

Just a reminder, I want to close the comp at the end of the day commonly called the 25th June. So if you have entries, or know of someone who is thinking of entering, make sure you/they get them in ASAP!

Nice on, Pyro! The only one that looks a little off is Belle - everyone else's character design is dead on! What a great idea, too. :)

So where are Pocahontas and Hunchback and Tarzan? They all got the cheapquel treatment too, ya know. :D

MINE! MINE! MINE! MINE!

OK, there's my selfish plug for the month. :p Anyway, if you click on the link I've presented below, it will take you to my entry for this month. It also doubles over as the first in my series of pics featuring DARKWING DUCK characters.

And yes, I managed to fit Batman in somehow - as was my plan from the get-go. :D

Okay, here we goo...

Starscream - Great pic of the Gargoyles! I like the use of colors. I can see why they are mad, seeing as hw they cancelled such a great show :(

Pyro~ManiaX - lol.... That pic is funny! It is kind of true too... Love the concept and rendering of the characters. The expressions on the faces are probably the best part of the picture. Clever idea indeed.

TimTwoFace - How'd I know you'd figure out someway of including a Bat-family character? :p

Quaker-Jacks face is drawn and shaded very well! Its probably one of the better faces I have seen you draw.

I want to see more from you crazy Disney fans! :)

Yeah, I ran into problems with Belle, I had never really seen Beauty and the Beast, I'm really not used to drawing characters small because they are further away (I had to try a lot of time w/ Tink, I kept making her head too big :p ), and I had a problem placing her because she was one of the last I put in the pic and I didn't want to rearrange the characters I already had. Though I like the way the bottom of her dress came out in the end. I don't really like the way Lady and the Tramp look either.
I now I left out some characters, but I knew what size I wanted it to be and just chose characters I wanted to draw.
Your pic looks really good; I really like your coloring. I don't know much about Darkwing duck, but I didn't expect to see Harley in this contest! Cool!

Belle's just about my favorite Disney character and you did a great job on her for never having seen the movie! Always something interesting withi you Timmy, huh? Quite a nice, and very bizarre, idea. Always amazed how you can really fit Batman into anything. Colors are vibrant and lovely as always.

Starscream. Nice strong pencils and soft colours. I think the end result is very effective.

Tim, colour and form - one of your best pieces yet. Your style remains constant yet it's getting more and more professional in it's finish. Cool.

Outlander, Barb, and SJJ, thanks for the nice comments! I was quite happy with how the pic turned out, too. I like drawing ducks with crazy grins and huge-ass beaks - so this one just seemed to fit in perfectly. :)

Pyro, thanks to you too! :) And I suggest you go check out that series if you can, I absolutely love it - and really, I think it's what helped me become the diehard Batman fan that I am today. (It debuted in 1991, one year before BTAS did.) :)

So guys, you have OOOOOOOOONE more day to go until the contest closes! Get those pics in! A lot of good pics are filtering in for the final push here.

Almost posted this in the wrong thread... my bad.

Well, I won't get the color version done anytime soon, so here's my entry:

I always though those little dolls singing "It's a small world..." were evil on that Disney ride.

Anyone else had the desire to jump off the boat and get away?

It's a horrible sketch, but here it is...

Figuring Kingdom Hearts was a joint game with Disney, I'm guessing this is all right for the contest (hopes).

EDIT:: *remembers the new voting system* Agh, I'm doomed. -_- At least I got something in, right?

James

lol. You are not doomed! It's a great picture, and yes Kingdom Hearts is a fine source of inspiration!

Personally, I'm always less interested in who wins, but just who draws/paints what. It's so cool to see some many people from all over the world draw something in a 'common cause'. Wonderful mate.

There have been some fine pictures here, and now, here's mine.

I had always wanted to draw these characters and this contest gave me an excuse. I could bore you with the mistakes I felt I made, but I don't have quite that much time, so I'll just show it to you. The top pic features the main characters of the show "The Weekenders" and the bottom pic shows the main characters of "Fillmore". I didn't want to have to enter two different pictures, so I put them together in a rather ingenious way.

This is my 2500th post. Hooray for me.

Doomed? Hardly! That will do well in the sketch/pencil area. I love the pencils that you do! :D

That's a....horrible sketch?! I'm seriously going to have to kill you before I see what a good sketch is then! That's an amazing sketch! I never played the game myself, but I'm familiar with the character's look and you are majorly dead on. Wonderful job.

Jacko...wow, that's different! hehe, that ride does drive the majority of the population mad. Nice twist of sticking Batman in there as well, it's a very vivid image.

Lonestarr, very cute! Weekenders is like my favorite show!

Okay, well guess what everyone. Yesterday morning my scanner finally decided to work after being dead for about a month  I've had this sketch done since before June, in anticipation of the theme and because the Stanley Cup Finals were on. The whole point of my pic was to be able to put it up while the Finals were being played, but my scanner had other ideas. I still wanted to get this bugger scanned up and colored, which I did, but it's not going to have the same point as it was supposed to have had I been able to get it up sooner. Anyhoo, here it is:

Cartoon Barb is amazingly cute (not unlike the real thing.. :p) and the colouring and pencils are very effective. Nice logo and great watery background that keeps the whole thing feeling fresh and enthusiastic! Great stuff miss!

Well, it looks like I was able to get my second picture in on time. :D This drawing is of Aladdin and Jasmine (http://web.ecomplanet.com/ART1724/ServerContent/MyCustomImages/ART1724CustomImage0043721.gif), and I've decided to enter this one into the competition.

EDIT: Since the the picture was taking too long to download, I've changed it from a bmp to a gif. The quality is not as good, but I guess it's better than nothing.:(

Caped Crusader, that's awesome! I LOVE the colouring and shading in that pic - not to say that the drawing isn't good already, but that is just amazing. I love it!

And Barb...I gotta agree with SJJ, the cartoon-Barb is just so utterly adorable. :D The ducks look cute, too - I'm assuming that's Wild Wing on the left? Nosedive is to the right, obviously.

Nice to see you got it scanned in the end, after all. :)
