View Full Version : Boomerang is really improving

There's been a lot of negative threads here lately, so I thought I'd throw in a positive one. I have to say that Boomerang has really been improving lately.

1. - On Monday, they introduced Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Corral, a one-hour showcase of various Hanna-Barbera shorts (basically a Hanna-Barbera version of the Acme Hour). I was expecting a pretty boring show with no special opening or anything (like the old 1-hour "Boomerang" show CN used to run for a short time). I was pleasantly surprised to see they made a neat, new opening, closing, and bumpers for the show. Plus, the Cartoon Corral really has a great variety of cartoons. Every episode even ends with a chapter of a "Ruff & Reddy" serial.

2. - The logo is now smaller. I'd prefer no logo at all, but these days when it seems every cable network is trying to make their on-screen logos as big and as obnoxious as possible it's great to see a channel actually shrinking the logo.

You can see for yourself: http://looney.toonzone.net/boomlogo.jpg

3. - Harveytoons!! Starting June 9! Plus, there's Rocky & Bullwinkle and Underdog. Hope to see more non-WB/H-B shows picked up in the future (especially Pink Panther or Woody Woodpecker)

4. - June Bugs. Even though they are recycling the same "A to Z" ads CN used last year. It would have been nice if they had at least thought up an original way to run the shorts (by director, perhaps?).

I hope Boomerang keeps improving the way it has been and maybe it will be more widely available... someday.

Now go pester your cable company to pick it up. :p

Yea I agree 100%. I can't wait for the Harveytoons show; I think I've only seen 1 cartoon from that studio that I can remember.

I do have a couple of questions about the Harveytoons show set to premiere on Boomerang next Monday.

1.The series will now be known as "Casper and friends" does this mean that the opening version of Harveytoons(that previously aired on the Fox Family Channel) will be dropped once it begins on Boomerang?

2.When the FFC aired the Harveytoon show, they only showed three cartoons, plus a cartoon clip.So how will Boomerang air the cartoons since the network can fit four cartoons in a half hour without commericals? Will the clips be dropped as well?

And of course, I'm still hoping Boomerang will have the Harveytoons with their original opening and closing titles from the early 1960s.Sorry, but I didn't like the re-created opening title, did not feature no screen credits and the way the shorts quickly ended before the picture even faded.

It looks like they will be airing the shows the same way Fox Family did (3 cartoons, plus 1 clip). Boomerang will be airing 2 half-hour episodes Mon. - Thu.

I was looking forward to Boomerang showing The Harveytoons Show so my dad could tape it for me (I don't actually have any cable or satellite TV in my house). At my house I had been getting up every weekday morning @ 6:00 a.m. to tape the Garfield & Friends show on the local WB channel. I missed taping it on Memorial Day and was going to pick up again on that Tuesday, when low and behold they changed the programming to what else but The Harveytoons Show. While I was at first excited since this meant that my dad wouldn't have to worry about taping it, I now wish I had the Garfield & Friends show as it's funnier.

Most of the Harveytoons seem like they were written for kids and many of them have a "girlish" or "cheesy" quality to them. I dislike Casper and can't stand Audrey. Herman & Katnip are alright. Baby Huey is probably their best character. I also like Tommy Tortoise & Moe Hare, but there are so few of their cartoons relatively speaking.

The program is part of The Cartoon Exchange, & like Jon said, each half-hour episode contains 3 cartoons & 1 clip. Since the titles were redone without screen credits and a quick fade-out at the end, they are shorter than other classic cartoons (Warner Bros., MGM, etc.). This means that Boomerang is going to have a lot of "filler space" for self-promotion advertisements.

I hope others of you like them more than I do, but it honestly was a let-down for me.

Not sure about shrinking the logo, but I hated how Boomerang's on-screen logo was animated! Every 10 seconds it would spin round to show the regular Cartoon Network logo on the back, before turning round to show the B again. (at least in the UK)

Nowadays Boomerang UK's logo is static, though it's still rather large for my liking. Over here, TV network logos tend to be at the top of the screen rather than the bottom. Boomerang's logo is at the top right, and occasionally obscures some text in a cartoon (see the other thread about logos I posted), but not as bad as Disney Channel! It also annoys me when a network pops up a WWW.<network name>.COM during a programme, or a 'coming up next' thing as part of the on-screen logo!

That's why I'm glad CN is taking Pokemon off of weeknights in July. No more gigantic animated "POKEMON NEXT" bug!

If Boomerang picked up Woody Woodpecker, I would buy a dish the second the news came out...

Well I wish that I didn't have to buy Dish 500 in order to get Boomerang.

I so love those cartoons. And I know my 3 yr old can watch them with out me trying to explain things all the time.
