remember the fatass kid from Canada who gained internet fandom through the video of him tossing around a big pole thing as if it were a light saber? well he's calling the attorneys into action!

out of curiosity, did anyone here donate to him?

I saw it two weeks ago. It is pretty funny. Mostly because Its something we've all done before. Mabye not video taped it, but you can't tell me you haven't used a broom stick as a makeshift lightsaber before.

Somehow, I'd never even heard of this before, so I found a story about it. If anyone else doesn't know the story, looky here (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,58881,00.html). It's both funny and sad at times.

While there's no excuse for someone to distribute and profit from that, and the kid should get a big ass damages settlement, he should've known better than to do something like that in front of a camera. What was he thinking?

Hmmmm...I just saw the video and it's not that bad. Really, how can this kid sue? It looks like he was taping the whole thing himself, anyway. It's just some kid playing with a broom handle - and for the first half of the video, he's lookin' pretty agile. :)

I don't see what the big deal is, really.

The problem is that someone else took the tape and put it on kazaa, apparently wihout the SWK's consent, for all the world to see.

Has anyone seen the remixes of the SWK? I think I'm starting to the point of this thread.

im more ticked at him from the fact that people gave the guy free stuff. he got a 30 gig iPod for example.

I wonder if the kid is actually the one suing or if it's more his parents trying to milk some money out of it. From the interview he gave early to that site it sounded like he didn't care about it going around, but considering they already had a lawyer I'd guess it's the parents behind it all. If you read the whole thing he may not get a 30gig iPod, people are starting to get their money refunded.

Wow. That's mindboggling. He's gotten his couple of minutes of fame and some free stuff out of the deal, and his family's SUING?! I'd be grateful, embarrassed or not.

It's just some kid playing with a broom handle Which is much better than a video of some kid playing with his broom handle...

Makes me glad I didn't donate to get fatty an iPod.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, so I've never seen that video in my life. Still... it's got me very curious with all the hype. Anyone know where I might be able to watch it? :)

This kid is looking dead into the camera, so he knows that it's there. He won't get any money out of this, or at least he shouldn't. I mean, if someone filmed me doing Maul impersonations and released it, I wouldn't b*tch and moan about it. He just wants to be famous.

Yeah, I figured that, but how would this tape get in the hands of someone else, anyway? It wasn't even edited to make the kid look like an idiot - and really, he doesn't, and there's no defamation of character or anything here - it's just showing a kid throwing a broom around doing faux-ninja moves.

I understand the whole privacy issue, but I still think this is silly.

Apparently, from what I've read, he's in the AV club at school. He put on his "performance" at school, when nobody else was their. He left the tape in the VCR. Somedbody took the tape, laughed their asses off, digitally encoded it, and put it on kazaa. That information came from here (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,58881,00.html)

All of this hype really makes me want to view this file.

Just from reading the articles, the situation can be summed up in one word: stupid

Would be very amusing - not to mention "heartbreaking" for the erm ... fanatic - if enough people withdrew their donations and they couldn't purchase the iPod.
