Looks like The Amazing Spider-Man is out the door, as execs are thinking of possible new names. AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com) scored a scoop from a test marketing attendee asked to judge early promotional material for the sequel. First it seems three titles are being considered: Spider-Man 2 Lives, Spider-Man: No-More & Spider-Man: Unmasked (looks like The Amazing Spider-Man has been chucked). They also showed some early poster designs for the film - "The first one had a close-up of Spidey's mask with Mary Jane reflected in one eye and Doctor Octopus in the other. It wasn't a very detailed picture of Doc Ock but I did see that he was wearing a white lab coat and screaming (or laughing?) while mechanical tentacles were positioned to attack our hero. The second poster we saw had half of Tobey's face on one side and Spidey's on the other (much like the Terminator posters). The last one they showed us was a close-up of Spider-Man's hand in his 'webslinging' pose....the group I was with seemed to really like the Spider-Man Unmasked title."

The hell? Why unmasked? If your going to come up with a tagname at least make it decent. Theres nothing wrong with calling it The Amazing Spider-man

I too was a fan of The Amazing Spider-Man. I don't really like any of those other names. The movie should be good though.

Ah crap. I hope they don't make them ANY of those titles. They either make no sense or are just stupid. Just slap Spider-Man 2 on the thing and just move on. It's much better than..say.. Spider-Man 2 Lives.

...what the hell is that?

Um Sony, what's wrong with The Amazing Spider-Man?

Spider-Man 2 LivesUm, yeah, that's either a misprint or hilarious. Or both. I think both.

The problem with The Amazing Spider-Man (as nice as it is) is that it doesn't sound like a sequel title. A sequel title doesn't have to have a 2 in it, but it should at least give the impression of a sequel (Reloaded and Revolutions were great sequel titles). The Amazing Spider-Man would've been great for the first movie, but as a sequel it doesn't differentiate it well from the first.

The one way it would work is if #2 were The Amazing Spider-Man, then #3 were The Incredible Spider-Man (or whatever), then #4 were The ________ Spider-Man... and so on... then at least it's like a series. Otherwise, I don't really like it.

Spider-Man: Unmasked would be okay if it had something to do with the plot, but it doesn't seem to. Even if it did, it's not entirely original-- pretty lame, really. Spider-Man Lives doesn't really work since he never died or anything (but you know comic books). Spider-Man: No-More... is just terrible (doesn't need the hyphen either, but...). Let's hope they keep trying.

They all suck.
Spider-Man: Unmasked is the best one, but it still sucks. The movie better be better than X2 (I mean, X2 was great!) or I will not be a fan of the Spider-Man movies anymore (that was the best threat I could think of, but I won't let it ruin all things Spider-Man for me). If they do use one of those, they'll learn when the fans get mad. In fact, I'm mad already! Spider-Man deserves a good title! Spider-Man deserves a good MOVIE!

Excuse my ranting.

They could use comic book titles like: The Amazing Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Peter Parker: Spider-Man, or even Ultimate Spider-Man or Spider-Man Unlimited. Any of those would be better than that crap.

EDIT: OOH, OOH! And WEB OF SPIDER-MAN. That could work!

Sorry to post again and again, but I just learned that it is Spider-Man 2 Lives, as in he has two lives. Though I still think it's stupid. It should at least be Spider-Man: 2 Lives

Either way you cut it - Spider-Man 2 Lives is such a ridiculous name. Might as well leave is as Spider-Man 2. The studio just wants the sequel recognition, since sequels seem to be out performing original nowadays. Out of the batch of those horribly lame names, Spider-Man Unmasked is the best of the bunch. Web of Spider-Man would be such an awesome name. I just hope the name is better than X2: X-Men United.

jeez if we have to go with the crappiest title, lets at least fix it up as best we can...how about just: 'SPIDER MAN LIVES'

...also, can't they use any of the 'doc oc' comic book issues for a title refrence??..i mean, stan lee and the rest of the marvel gang must've come up with some cool cover titles in the past.

I'd be OK with another name if it was BETTER than THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. But they aren't! They're rip-offs of a forever-defunct Superman script, and the others are just horrid.

The BATMAN movies seemed to always come up with good names for their sequels. There's nothing that bothers me more than a sequel whose name is nothing more than the original movie's name with a number tacked onto it at the end. Why can't the guys behind SPIDER-MAN do the same?

*SIGH* And I thought that MARVEL was going about this the right way...

The problem with The Amazing Spider-Man is that it isn't really a natural extension of the simple Spider-Man. If it was up to me, I would just make it Spider-Man II. There is no need for verbal dressing.

UGH!! I didn't know this yet. The Amazing Spider-Man was an excellent title!!!! All of these others sound so bad...typical lame Hollywood sequel crap. Why not call it Spider-Man Too, for crying out loud. Those options are nearly as bad.

I loved the idea of the movies being named after the comic titles...wish the idea was still being used. Easily able to differentiate the two. After all, most people just say the name of the franchise or "The second one" when referring to a sequel anyway. I don't see how it could cause confustion.

I was hoping it would go something like:

Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man
Web of Spider-Man
The Spectacular Spider-Man and so on.

If it was called "Spider-Man TOO", I would kill myself. I still haven't gotten over "Teen Wolf".

God, The Amazing Spider-Man was a good title. If they're going to change it why won't they change it to "Spider-Man 2: Make Up Your Own Subtitle" or "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man".
Eek. That would be weird.

I'm very upset they didn't chose The Amazing Spider-Man. The nod to the source material showed the strong bond the movie was trying to keep with the comic.. this is a pity. But then, the execs know best I'm sure...

..I'm sure.

Just like X-Men 2, this will always just be Spiderman 2 to me. Sony, Marvel, and Fox look like dopes when they can't agree on a title, even in production. Actually, most companies look like dopes when they can't decide. Finish the movie first, then bicker about the title. Especially a sequel, geez.

Later.
