Is there any possibility of getting a new look for the AS board to reflect the recent changes? I think it would look great and wouldn't be very hard to do.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing one, that black and white color scheme rocks. Up with monochrome.

Well im goin to change one of my sites soon. I heard that they are makin a new forum design, but it may have just been a false rumor.

I don't think they should change it. For one thing, I really like the AS board design, and would feel really weird about seeing it (drastically) change. It's been around for so long, changing it for a new look (one that we don't know how long will be used) doesn't seem right.
I love the new AS look, but I think the board should stay the way it is. Besides, I really don't like the really dark colored forums. The bright red and blue are refreshing.

Maybe a poll should be taken of the members and then whichever choice wins is the forum design.

Official story: I'm working on a new design and a revamped AS site (really!), so I'd probably like to coincide the new look of the forum with that. I'm going to start asking everyone's opinions on what they want on the site AND on the forum, so keep watching the site.
Unofficially: I haven't decided yet.

I don't think the design should change to look like the new Adult Swim format. If you did, it would look simular to the Anime forum. But that's just my opinoin.

I think that the boards should change to the simple style. So far every style for Adult Swim has been reflected somehow on the Adult Swim board and changing it would make sense. I would really enjoy it.
Also, a thread like this should really be in Adult Swim, since not many AS members visit this forum often and won't be able to voice their opinion. But WHATEVER.

Theoretically any time soon.
My guess would be never, though.

that's quite a good point you have there. never thought of it. i certainly won't be able to contribute for a couple days.

I'm guessing that it will be at least a month or so, before any major changes are made to the forum. After all there is no real point to it having a forum change now, so I'm guessing that whenever there comes to a point where it needs to change, it will.

b&w forum = boring.
Why do you want boring?

some of you should head over to the Feedback forum for a thread like this that's already begun.

I don't know. I'd really prefer a forum that has the motiff of the new Adult Swim. As vacuous as it's members are, I really like the look of the www.adultswim.com message board. Especially the Lennon quote.

I really hate that design. Everything about it.
It works on TV because it's always changing and clever. As a static timeless thing, it's not clever or interesting.

What if the message changed every time you refreshed?
Aurochs

Although Matt Wilson disagrees with me, I think the black and white look would be good for the official Adult Swim board. The banner/message at the top could change every time it refreshed, and would be followed by an obligatory "[toonzone]" bug. I think that would be sweet.

I would be fine with it either way, but I think I'd really rather the design stay the same as it is now. It works.

I'm also happy with the way the board is now. I guess I wouldn't complain (too much :p) if it changed though.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just saying that if this forum were to replicate ASv3, it wouldn't do that... TZ's designs have always been... what's the word I'm looking for.... hm..

It's 50-50, so I'm going to make one soon, probably today, get a poll up, and see what people want.
If I go with the 3.0 style, then the banner will change-- but not when you refresh it. I don't think that's possible with the forums we have. Instead, the banner will be changed weekly, more-or-less.
Look for a poll soon.

Finily, hoply we can decide on somthing for the other board on the Adult Swim site.

Well I could see it working out actually. With a random gif generator at the top of the screen or dare I say FLASH at the top of the screen it could work out. They could have about 5 or so going and that would keep it moderately entertaining. They could probably ask someone who isn't doing much that works at the site to change them about every week.
The messages would say stuff like...
"Hello"
"Welcome to the Adult Swim Message Board"
"This is where you waste countless hours of your life doing nothing"
"Doesn't that sound fun?"
"No really!"
"That's what's gonna happen"
"You don't believe me?"
"Then screw you!!!"
"Enjoy your stay"
"[toonzone.net]
And other random things (maybe not that long)

Perhaps they could fuse the 2 looks, like use the new font and stuff, but keep the "feel" of the first aid look
But I really like the look of this board, compared to the other boards here, But I'm still disappointed we lost the "first aid" look after only 5 months

You could easily use this board's software (or any other) and have a random banner at the top. Very simple coding.
put this between the <HEAD></HEAD> tags
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Begin
// Set up the image files to be used.
var theImages = new Array() // do not change this
// To add more image files,
// continue with the pattern below,
// adding each new array sequentially.
theImages[0] = '1.gif'
theImages[1] = '2.gif'
theImages[2] = '3.gif'
theImages[3] = '4.gif'
// do not edit anything below this line
var j = 0
var p = theImages.length;
var preBuffer = new Array()
for (i = 0; i < p; i++){
preBuffer[i] = new Image()
preBuffer[i].src = theImages[i]
}
var whichImage = Math.round(Math.random()*(p-1));
function showImage(){
document.write('<img src="'+theImages[whichImage]+'">');
}
// End -->
</script>
Then, put this anywhere after <BODY>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Begin
showImage();
// End -->
</script>

PHP doesn't exactly work that way.. I'm not sure how vB does it but you mostly have to mess with templates, and yes, you CAN put Javascript or Flash in, but it's kind of a pain.

I'm definitely against the possibility of an all black and white look for the board. For fifteen to thirty second TV bumpers, it's great. But without cool music and funny text, the black and white look would be incredibly dull.
For a board a lot of us spend a lot of time at, I want a look that'll be appealing to the eye. I think the one we have now fits this description. In fact, I like the current AS board design best out of all the ToonZone forums. The bright colors work really well together, and (I think) add to the board's atmosphere. My vote is to keep it.
[Two threads were merged. I didn't really post twice in the same thread to say the same thing.]

Actually, PHP is even easier :cool:
<?
/*
BANNER ROTATOR
*/
// modify the 7 lines below
$banners= array('banner1.gif','banner2.gif','banner3.gif');
$alt_texts= array ('alt_text1','alt_text2','alt_text3');
$links= array('http://www.toonzone.net','link1','link1');
$border="0";
$target="_blank";
$width="140";
$height="50";
$action="";// for javascript enter 'js' else leave empty.
// YOU DO NOT NEED TO MODIFY BELOW
$random_no= count($banners);
$random=$random_no-1;
mt_srand ((double) microtime () * 1000000);
$rnd= mt_rand(0,$random);
$banner=$banners[$rnd];
$alt_text=$alt_texts[$rnd];
$link=$links[$rnd];
if ($action=="js")
{
echo("document.write('<a href=\"$link\" target=\"$target\"><img src=\"$banner\" border=\"$border\" width=\"$width\" height=\"$height\" alt=\"$alt_text\"></a>');");
}
else
{
echo"<a href=\"$link\" target=\"$target\"><img src=\"$banner\" border=\"$border\" width=\"$width\" height=\"$height\" alt=\"$alt_text\"></a>";
}
?>
Modifying this board's layout is easy. There should be no problem inserting eithere the above or JavaScript into the templates or pages. I agree that Flash would be a bit too much.

I've been to some boards where you can choose the board design in the user options, can the Adult Swim board have an option like that?

Didn't the boards just recently get a change of design and everyone more or less like them plus a Black and White board would look incredibly dull

That can only be done as a forum-wide option and not only for a speific board, unfortunately.
