View Full Version : Got COB? (EVERYBODY please vote!)

Hi everybody. Most of you probably already know what I'm talking about here... I was watching Adult Swim last night, and one of their new super-neato black-and-white text card promos came on and explained to me that this promo was a COB, or Cable Operator's Break. According to the promo, 60% of Adult Swim viewers saw advertisements from their local cable service provider, and 40% saw the promo itself. Well, I just thought it would be a neat idea to form a little poll and see how many people saw it and how many people didn't-- see if our experience matches up to their statistics. If they're right and this poll is accurate, we should see a 60/40 split. If they're wrong and/or this poll gets screwed up by people voting wrong or something like that, then we'll get something different. Let the voting begin!
Oh, and...
Cobbity cob-cob cob.

"They're running a COB."

I certainly did, and am eager to see the results of the poll. I wondered if those statistics were reliable as well. Keep in mind, though, that major markets could throw off the COB viewership.

"So Fred, did you see a COB last night"
"No, I was in New York, they ran some local commercial."
"Oh, so no COB?"
"No COB."

I have no idea what you're talking about, so I guess that means I didn't see it.

Comcast forgot to run local inserts a couple of times last night so our area saw them.

I think they might have covered it up one time but they let it through twice. Guess they didn't feel like plugging "Brushieland", On Demand, or run of the seemingly endless promos for CN8: The Comcast Network...

Saw it twice.Same here. Missed it the first time, but saw it twice after that.
I've got DirecTV, so instead of "Come to Bill's Auto Salvage Yard and meet Boingo the Clown!" ads, I saw an ad for something on pay per view the first time around.
I'm guessing most people eventually saw it at least once.

Wasn't it where that ****ing AOL comercial is usually placed?

I saw it. Having to use Sattelite now.
I saw it.
Those promos they had last night broke me of the habit of switching channels on commericals. Those were comedy gold.
Since they played it more the once, more then 40% of the viewers saw it. If you really wanted to see if the poll's percentage & their percentage matched, then the poll should ask if the people saw it at a certain time.

I certainly saw the COB. At the moment I didn't fully understand it wiht all the percentages, but now I get the message they were trying to get across.

Yeah I saw the COB, but I think they aired at diffrent times of the night. I heard someone seeing it on the forum about 15 minutes before I saw it on AS. Maybe only 40% see it at a given time and the other 60% see it at a diffrent time.

Ah, that makes sense. I only saw it the once, so I didn't realize they played it more than once. Anyway I expected that SOMETHING would probably wind up biasing the poll, so I'm not too broken up over it. (-:

I saw both showings.
To get a better poll, switch it to: who saw both cob spots.

I get the same damn COB insert every commercial break. It was funny at first, but now it's just relentless and annoying. Stupid Comcast.
I think I'm getting tired of the new look in general. It was funny at first, but now it's novelty has worn off (although I do crack up at "Are they real" next Fujiko's outline.)
Although, I seem to have missed the Inuyasha intro text every time, somehow. What does it say?

I saw it 1 1/2 times. Thanks to my local Comcast company's sloppy editing I got to see half of the COB promo and a commercial about cable theft one time (Am I the only one who gets those stupid things?).

Opening bumper:
InuYasha starts in a sec.
15 of them actually.
Well, by now it's more like ten.
Really 5, I guess.
InuYasha starting, now.
See how easy that was.

Intro:
INUYASHA
Next
Pre-commercial break:
Man, 12:30 already.
Satistics show that 1/2 of you who
were here 60 minutes ago have left.
We think that's rude, too.
Time to see a man about a horse.
Post-commercial break:
Come back tomorrow night.
We'll be here. Inuyasha 12:30 sharp.
Most days anyway.
Post-credits:
We like InuYasha
We want you to, too.
Homonyms are fun.
Gotta love virtualdub... 3 hours, 20 minutes, and no dropped frames.

Wow, so the white-on-black isn't permanent then?
I'm kind of disappointed.

Time Warner Cable takes advantage of these COBs. Rarely do they do it at the worst of times.
Now if only they weren't too quick to jump into a COB after the show is over.
Cob cobbity-cob cob cob.
