The old episode of "The Simpsons" in which the family visits New York and the World Trade Center, has been pulled from syndication. The show will still air on Canada's The Comedy Network, since the network has rights to all the episodes. It will be up to the network on whether or not they will air it.

I'm not happy! :(

I loved this eppy, and the Khalav Kalish Man was GOLD! I'll never get to see him again...or the rest of the eppy, for that matter...but the WTC ironically enough was the best part in that eppy to me...

....I suppose it's for the best to pull it off, though. Is this a temporary can or pernament?

According to FOX, it will be "for the foreseeable future". You can bet that episode will resurface on the DVD which is a plus I suppose.

Well, that answers that question. . . .

Can't say I'll miss it, though. Not one of my faves, and the one that, IMO, signalled the onslaught of the current crop of mediocre Simpsons eps.

Really? You think that one was the beginning of the end? Curious...

Well, I didn't think it at the time. :p

But I did remember thinking it was an "off" episode, and I noticed there were a lot of them that season. ("Simpson Tide," anyone?) And a lot of them the next season. In retrospect, then, I point to "Homer vs. NY" as where "The Simpsons" began to tank.

I would say that the beginning of Season 8 was the start of hard times, but HOMER VS. NEW YORK was actually a high point in that dark age. Had the feel of an old-school eppy.

....At least it'll be on DVD! :D It's still to good an eppy to let go to waste...

I don't think they should do all of this editing. if all of this came before this happened, then what happened on tuesday (been 3 weeks alerady! ) shouldn't effect somthing that happened so long ago!

that's my oppinion anyway..

Ya know I've been doing a lot of thinking about this. And I said that I thought we should get back to the way we were, in order to feel better and get stronger again. But then I realized that everyone needs to chose to do this, and even once they do, they all don't do it at the same pace. It takes time.

So if some networks want to hold that NY episode of The Simpsons (although one of my favorites) for a short while, I understand. :)

And I didn't think this episode was the one that started the show's end. As I look back, I find that it happened simultaneously once the animation slightly changed. Our "heroes" went from yellow, to kinda orange.

'Tis a pity that this bit of news turned out to be true. Hopefully, it will end up on DVD. And until then, there's always the episode transcript at www.snpp.com . Phew!

Is this REALLY necessary? I mean this episode was made a while before the whole thing with it WTC.

This is the same episode where Homer drinks the crap juice and runs up one tower to piss and then to the other one since the first one is out of order correct? If so. This is bull crap.

I love the Crab Juice joke.

Homer: "What have you got to drink?"

Vendor: "Mountain Dew"(TM) and crab juice.

Homer: Eewww! Yuck! Blech... I'll have a crab juice.
:D

Then, later, we see a pile of empty crab juice cans on the pavement. Pan upt o Homer who is doing the, knees knocked, on tippie-toes, hands over crotch, "I have to pee" dance. The line delivery on "Why did I drink so much crab juice?!" is hilarious! :D :D

I look at it this way, and this may be a bad analogy, but here goes: When a person of some importance or fame dies, do they pull every image of them off and out of everything? No, for the most part they talk more about them. Messing with anything that has the WTC in it, to me, is saying we should forget they even exsisted, along with all that were claimed by its collapse, and that's wrong. If anything, leave the towers in TV shows, movies, and magazines as a sort of way to remember the people who died. If that came out bad, or offended anyone, I apoligize ahead of time...

No need to apologize to me. My girlfriend and I were talking about this same thing the other day. When someone dies you don't just throw away their pictures or if it's someone famous you don't just stop watching their movies or stop listening to their songs. It's a great way to remember them. But that's what they are doing to the WTC, the entertainment industry is basically WIPING it and ERASING it from memory like it never existed. It's complete BS that they are doing this and for that matter erasing the WTC out of reruns of shows and possibly releases of upcoming DVD movies. A.I. for example and Friends...

Glad to see someone thinks the same thing. I feel it's totally disrespectful to those that lost their lives. Seeing those towers would remind you of what happened and why we won't let it happen again...

I do recall hearing some Bugs cartoon was redubbed for rerelease after some actress who was mentioned in it died.

Anyway, I figure that some _businesses_ may be more comfortable in shelving certain shows/movies for a bit and making changes in ones to come. Right now, the WTC is gone gone gone... Will it be rebuilt? Don't know. But the thought is that for serious movies striving for a here and now NYC skyline _shouldn't_ have it.... And the presence of the buildings in upcoming comedies is thought to perhaps cast a shadow over the humor.

You're right, the ref was to Carol Lombard after she died in a plane crash whil touring to promote war bonds. Don't remember which toon, but in it Bugs covers Elmer's eyes and asks "Guess who?" Lombard was one of Elmer's guesses.

That was "The Wild Hare", Avery, 1940. A similar instance occured in a Freleng short, where Yosemite Sam does one of his long-winded intros, and finishes with "..and I don't mean Mahatma Ghandi!" The Indian leader had, however, been assassinated not long before the short was released. So at the last minute it was redubbed with "..and I ain't no namby-pamby!" If one watches Sam's lips carefully the redone dialogue doesn't match the old movements.

Oh, my...my deepest fears have been confirmed. And it's not a biological terror being unleashed upon the nation by terrorists, or another bombing, or anything like that....my fear out of all of this is that they would go BACK and get rid of images of the WTC from existing shows. I fear even more that this is just the beginning of an uspeakable horror of censorship. I was really hoping this kind of black listing thing died in this country after the 50's.

Don't take my word for it, but I believe the WTC towers where in the Enterprose episode tonight. I'll have to go back and look at it again...

Yes, I noticed that. Maybe they were the rebuilt towers?

James Harvey

I believe the Towers will be rebuilt, which is why I think it's not right to have them taken out of movies and banning episodes becuase of their mention or involvement.

Amen. That's what I've been saying to people when this subject comes up in conversation. In fact, I was telling a friend not too long ago that I heard they were taking the WTC out of AI and we both agreed that was wrong. Couldn't they just say those are the rebuilt towers?

Trent Lane

The best thing they can do is to rebuild the buildings as a memorial to those we lost, not just leave it an open space. It'll be hard for companies to even think of moving into the buildings, but it's the best way to move on and honor all involved...
