Oh, good lord. What's the point in watching FICTIONAL people compete for the million bucks? And kids don't care about the real Millionaire show... in fact, the only people who watch it nowadays are late-middle aged and up.
Lamest idea for an educational show I've ever heard of.

This idea ALMOST makes "Who Wants To Be a Princess?" look like a stroke of genius. And I don't even wanna think about the animated version of Regis Philbin.
I'm taking bets that they will do an animated Survivor someday.
Careful Girchan, we don't wanna give them any more ideas... :D

What's the point of this? I mean, is the animated version going to be that much different from the people version, other than the fact that it's animated?
Maybe they're setting it up so it's "funnier"; y'know, the contestant making cracks, the phone calls not working at all (with the friend making sarcastic comments), or maybe they'll do what the Russian audience does: put in wrong answers for an 'Ask the Audience' lifeline on purpose. (I say more people should do that. It'll make the game more exciting). Well, it's too late for those. That already happened in the Celebrity Millionaire.
I mean, what can you *DO*?! Does no one else realize that the whole thing is two people sitting in chairs?!

and by DiC of all companies...
What exactly do you mean by that? DiC also brought us the weekday afternoon Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Here's an example of the "brilliant writing" in it:
Sonic loves chili dogs. But in one episode, he gets amnesia, which Tails tries to fix.
How does Tails know he has amnesia? Because at a fast food place he orders a hamburger. MY GOD, HE CERTAINLY MUST HAVE AMNESIA!

I'd like to see the news source for this, along with information on what this show actually will consist of.... either way, sounds like another waste of animation cells is in the offing...

I heard this was an educational show-this should make them even more laughed upon!
And with DIC, it's only getting worse and worse....still, they made SatAM Sonic, the only NON-peice of tripe they came up with.
Still, I'll watch an eppy if this happens:
(Contestant calls someone for 'phone a friend'. It takes a LOT of time to say the question, though)
FRIEND: Oh, too easy! It's-CLICK (phone is automatically hung up, no answer had been given! The contestant has a shocked look on his face toward the camera...)
...And maybe for the audience giving wrong answers too...

''Millionaire'' tunes up cartoon version
Monday September 24 1:23 AM ET
By Elizabeth Guider
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - ``Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'' is about to
get really animated.
The game show's British creator is teaming up with a Los Angeles
animation firm to produce a cartoon version of the worldwide hit,
calling it ``The Adventures of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: The
Animated Series.''
Picking up where the top-level question is answered and leading into a
narrative adventure targeted at kids and families, the series'
animated host will launch game show winners on a journey to exotic
locations. The host will stay in touch with characters via the
``Millionaire Studio Command Center.''
``This is a chance to fantasize what happens when the winners walk out
of the studio with their prize check and the opportunity to live out
their dreams,'' said Andy Heyward, chairman and CEO of L.A.-based kids
producer DIC Entertainment, which is partnering with Britain's Celador
on the project.
The cartoon will retain the musical cues and the look of the game
show, Heyward said.
DIC, which is the majority partner in the deal, will begin selling the
animated series internationally at the upcoming Mipcom TV trade show
in Cannes the second week of October. The show is destined for one of
Disney's outlets Stateside
<<<
Ick. Presumably it'll either be on the Disney channel, their "One Sat. Morning" lineup, or UPN's weekday run of Disney shows (apparently this season they've dropped the name "One, Too" and the bumpers for it, in favor of just running the shows straight as-is...wonder how it's doing ratings-wise, esp. since there's only one new batch of shows in the lineup ["Tarzan"]).

Yes, that is true. SatAM Sonic was easily the best of DiCs shows (even though I don't really like it that much). (Speaking of which, my mom said that was most likely going to be the 'mystery' Sonic DVD)
Also, I told my mom of the news and she was like- 'You must be kidding. DiC? Didn't they do Inspector Gadget?' My sister just laughed.
And yes, I can just see the cliche of 'lifeline' then 'ask the question' and then 'I have the answer' then 'Hang up' for 'disconnect'. Predictable. :D

Girchan-is SatAM REALLY going to be on DVD? If so....YEEESSSSSS!!
This is so great news I think I don't care about Millionaire being animated anymore!
...okay, I still do care. But we needed some good news. :)
Oh, and I give WWTBAM about a month before TV execs decide it's going to be scrapped...who cares if this thing goes to 'exotic' places? What are your guesses for how long this show will stay or whacky locations? ;)

DIC did do the Real Ghostbusters, which (for the first couple of seasons) was undoubtedly the best 80s cartoon out there. Come to think of it, it was pretty much the ONLY decent cartoon released in the 80s, with the possible exception of Garfield.
But yeah, ever since then DIC has been pretty crap-tacular.

Okkay, I'll admit I've liked the occasional DiC show. Heathcliff for example, or C.O.P.S. (is there a web site for that show ANYWHERE?) And it's not like we've never seen a toonified Regis before. The statue of him which replaced the one of Scorsese in Pigeon On the Roof for example. Or Squeege & Kathie Glee. Or the occasional appearance on Histeria (Bell or the Vikings). All that said, I'm really not looking forward to this either. I think I've already decided not to even look for it, even to see when & where not to go. Thank goodness Fox brought back Transformers @ least.

The only thing of interest to me in this is if the real Regis will be involved in this, and if not, will they get someone to impresinate him, maybe it would be someone we know. Jeff Bennett and Moe LaMarche do great Regis impressions, and I heard Billy West do one in the PatB ep "Pinky Suavo" But I would hate to see one of those three talented guys waste their talents in something like this.

@ least it'd be nice to see them still working, what with KWB practically extinct. And it's not like Bennett still has Johnny Bravo on which to fall back.

Here's where I go into fanboy mode, so bear with me. The kiddiefying of popular game shows isn't new, either--in 1997 or '98 CBS launched Wheel 2000, which was a chibi version of the Sajak and White vehicle Wheel of Fortune. Essentially it featured a flesh-and-blood male host and his female sidekick, a pretty CGI lass who "turned" the letters on the board, did little dances while the wheel turned, and after the answer was figured would give some factual data about it (i.e. if the answer was "volcano" we'd learn some interesting things about these geothermal wonders). Another feature of this show were the Double Dare-esque physical challenges which were performed by the young contestants. One of CBS' better shows, actually, back when they had Beakman's World, Bailey Kipper's P.O.V., and Project G.E.E.K.E.R. KWB would've done well to buy one of those instead of their Rescue Heroes series.
And remember--if it's Disney, it's powered by Zoog (which I still think is one of those obscure elements in the lower corner of the periodic table)!

Response to Hatter:
My votes for the best TV cartoons from the 80's would probably include "DuckTales" (which impressed me with how well animated it was, having been used to seeing the usual H-B/Filmation standard of animation for TV cartoons), "Garfield and Friends", and some of the various "Peanuts" specials (though not the Sat. morning "Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show").
Re: kiddified game shows:
Wonder what a cartoon version of "Jeopardy" ("Gyp-parody" notwithstanding) would consist of---something like last night's episode with the kids appearing and answering questions in some sort of kid-oriented tournament?
Kid-oriented game shows I've seen (among others) include: PBS' "Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego"?, the various Nickelodeon ones ("Double Dare", etc.), the ripoffs of "Double Dare" (during the late 80's "Double Dare" craze), and the various local "quiz bowl" type of game shows between high schools...

Well, there used to be a show on Saturday mornings years ago called "Jep!" which was the kiddified version of Jeopardy... I believe it can still be seen on the Game Show Network like once a week at some really unusual time.
There was also that Wheel 2000 Game Show which was Wheel of Fortune for kids, with a computer animated Vanna White-type character... which can also be seen on GSN, I think...

Sorry, I guess I didn't make myself clear on that (too mad, I guess). I can take an occasional reference to Regis (heck, I loved "The Family That Narfs Together, Poits Together") but not one every day or even every Saturday. Of course, I was assuming there that the animated version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire would have him in it a host. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Guess I might watch it once out of morbid curiosity.

I missed that post; I only saw this part when Singin' Stray Cat put it up. :D
I also recall a MAD Magazine, "We're Already Sick of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'--and that's our final answer!" I think MAD's opinion (& comic) are certainly what we all think. Anyone else read that?

It usually says that before the "change avatar" screen comes up. Maybe you should try again.
