So I watched "Mxyzsptlked!" [sp?] the other night (it's the only STAS I have on tape), and freeze-framed it during the scene where Jimmy hands Clark the newspaper comics. Anyone else get a good look at what's running in the Daily Planet? :D
Besides the "Siegel and Shuster" gag (the creators of Superman are the authors of the strip that Mxy appears in):
1. "Dini the Meaney" runs at the top of the page; a Calvin-and-Hobbesish strip where a Dini caricature sends his hyena hurtling down a gorge.
2. "Danger Dan" is a Dick Tracy strip where the title character (a caricature of director Dan Riba, I think) threatens to kick himself in the head if the bad guy doesn't release his hostage.
3. "Gleen," a "Peanuts"-type strip. If there is an in-joke there, it is too in-jokey for me.
There's another strip that runs below the McGurk strip, and looks like an imitation of "Momma," but you can't really make out the details.
