Pardon me if this is old news to you all.
Does anyone know whether there was a reason Granny was redesigned in the 1950s, and whether there is any connection between this and the fact that her voice changes too (I presume this is the Julie Bennett one sees listed here and there)?

Freleng and Hawley Pratt redesined Granny right after the studio reopened following J.L.'s aborted attempt to get into the 3-D movie business. Presumably it was done to give her more of a "UPA look" to fit with the more stylized design of the cartoons.
The last "old Granny" design was in "This Is A Life?" while the new one debuted in "Red Riding Hoodwinked," both from 1955. Also, when the studio reopened June Foray began doing the voice, and Julie Bennett took over just before the studio closed in 1963.

Personally, I prefer the original design. Funny, but I never really thought it was supposed to be the same character. I guess I just always thought Tweety had a different owner in those later films...
