View Full Version : Star Ratings - Your Preference?

Whenever I read movie reviews in newspapers, online, and on the tube, I often pay close attention to the star-rating of the movie. It works as a good summation of what the reviewer thought of all elements in the movie. What I don't like is how these ratings are so inconsistent. In just the local papers here - both owned by the same company - movies are rated out of four stars by one group of reviewers, and five by the other. It really bothers me that there isn't a standard that everyone should follow by.

Which is your personal preference? Four of five? Mine is five.

Definately the 5-star system. That's what we use in the talkbacks here on Toon Zone so that's what I like.

My paper always has the 4-star system though.

Oh, definitely four stars. It irks me to no end when I have to vote in 5-star polls here.

Personally I like one star. It was either good or bad. I either liked it or didn't. But four stars are easier for me to decipher. one stinks, two is okay, three is good, four is classic.

Thanks for bringing up this controversial topic, Tim. I'd been losing sleep over it. :p But seriously, I jest. I choose five. I guess it would go poor, fair, good, very good and excellent. All the 1/2 ratings would just add adjectives or some such thing, like "good, but not great."
