I am pretty sure "Brian Does Hollywood" is the 2nd part of "The Thin White Line", thus the first time that airing a show in production order screws things up a bit. :chases a greased up deaf guy:

Intresting note about two of this week's episode. Today's ("The Thin White Line") and Wendsday's ("Brian Does Hollywood") is a two parter. What's really intresting is that since they're airing them in production code (2ACX17 and 2ACX20) instead of showing the two parter one episode after another (like it was shown on FOX) Family Guy is pulling a Ripping Friends (They did that in the "Man from Next Tuesday'" two parter). Just thought I'd share.

Very cool to see all non-DVD episodes this week. Alllllright.
Loved this one. Brian is my favorite character, so good to see an episode where we get to see him in different types of funny (the good cop, the coke addict, the recovering coke addict). Some great quick jokes included: Mr. Weed's dart game, Purgatory, Toucan Sam and Brian, Peter as George Harrison's security guard, the premature births, Quagmire's "Hey Meg, are you 18 yet?"...and a lot more I'm forgetting. As always, satisfied.
Edit: Oh, how could I forget the one Aurochs just mentioned? "Pee...tear...griffin. Yea, Peter Griffin."
Edit...again: And also the Rocky & Bullwinkle reference, as mentioned...maybe I should stop editing. Yea, I'll stop editing.

The Thin White Line
Oh my god this was awful,This plot just went everywere. It all was just to fill up time nothing more. They tried to take on a serious subject and they faied at presenting it properly. This kind of subject matter dosn't belong on a show like this. This was probley the unfunniest episode I have ever seen. I only recall laughing twice, Peter coming up with a fake name and at Stewie' song. The whole time machine/tanning bed thing was incredibly stupid. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood or maybe I just feel like complaining, but this was the worst episode of Family Guy I have ever seen.

But...you're always in a bad mood regarding this show...
I really liked this episode. There were tons of gags (anyone else catch the gag on the newspaper, "Scientists Mystified by Paper Rain"?), as usual, and it was just one laugh after another. I also liked the Toucan Sam gag, especially since it kinda foreshadowed the episode's plot ("Follow your nose!"). My third-favorite episode ever (after part two of this one and "The Story on Page One").

Part One Of The Only Family Guy Two Parter aka "The Thin White Line" Episode Review.
I really don't have much to say about this one. I enjoyed all the moments that Brian was in (even though the beginning was a little slow) as well as the company picnic and Peter in the Rehab Clinic (espically when he traded some cleaner ((which he made to look like crack)) for a cupcake that one of the other inhabitants had) and the ending was actually somewhat dramatic (besides Stewie spitting on Brian) but nothing to really complain about here. Boy, how I remember this episode. I watched the original airing during blessed summer. I can remember how mad I felt when I learned I'd have to wait another week until its conclusion. Probably because that week I would be going through hell with my grandparents, taking me to Grand Canyon. Turns out that I was right. And I was so happy to see "Brian Does Hollywood". Now, why are they doing the crappy production code thing. CN needs to realize to forget about production codes for episodes like these. You NEVER leave the viewer hanging and not giving them a clue about what happens (then again, FOX does this a lot). It really is quite cruel to them. Seriously. It happened to me once. But, enough about that...onto my review...
Great one. The Rocky and Bullwinkle thing is just classic, so is Peter's failed fake name. Plenty of great stuff here. 5/5 (BTW, if anyone on the West Coast is wondering how I got the review early...I have it on tape)...
EDIT: I just realized that DianaGohan's review didn't make me scroll down the page just for it to continue. The Apocalypse is coming...

Now you realize that I'm going to write an incredibley long review of Tommorow's episode, right? What, you think I'm kidding? "Lethal Weapons" is one of my favorite episodes, and I have a LOT to say about that. Well, not as much as "Fore Father" but I think you get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

When I saw "to be continued" at the end of the episode, I honestly didn't believe it. I don't really expect this show to have that kind of continuity. Just seems like another gag.
And as it turns out, I am technically correct.
Only technically.
Perhaps the production order was deliberate?

"The Thin White Line"
Such a great episode, so many good jokes. I think my favorite part was the greased-up deaf guy, his voice was just so funny. I think this one sent up the police movie cliches better, quicker, and funnier than the recent South Park. I don't see why they're not breaking production order to air "Brian Does Hollywood" tomorrow, but it'll be worth the wait to see that opening "last week on Family Guy" sequence.

Togetor's review
<snipped. snipped it good!>
I am SO glad this guy isn't in the Trigun Review Thread.
Now contrary to the above's review I thought this was one of the best yet. It earns special points for being the FIRST episode in AS's run that I HAVEN'T seen! I did manage to catch Part 2 on FOX's run, but that's beside the point.
I loved Peter's search for a fake name, especially when that actual Griffin came on to the scene. Then the unexpected Rocky and Bullwinkle reference, Quagmire to Meg ("Are you 18 yet?" "No." "Hey Chris, how ya doing?"), Brian's coke addiction, Peter using Rehab as a vacation spot, and definitely some more I'm forgetting. I was actually worried a bit, since the opening was pretty weak, but it improved soon enough.

I liked this one, partly thru i remember seeing it in FOXs first run (I never saw pt 2)
was Rocky's voice the same actress, if not that was a spot on impersonation.
who does Seth Green play in the show, among that I noticed Haley Joel Osment in the credits , who did he play?
most of the good parts were mentioned by everyone esle, and surprisingly not DianaGohan

Seth Green is the voice of Chris Griffin (The oldest son) and I think he's done one or two other parts, and Haley Joel Osment was the first kid talking in the scene where Brian was sniffing coke in the Boy's bathroom.

Yeah, I WISH Fox could get away with the oh-so-scary Eff Word. (-: No, as many people have pointed out, it was in the original run. What I'm wondering is whether it'll be bleeped out on the DVD or not. It probably will be, as they don't tend to save the non-bleeped tracks for TV shows, but it would be neat if they restored the bleeped profanity on the DVD.
Tobias
05-12-2003, 05:11 PM
If it was bleeped in the original airing, it'll be bleeped in the DVD, like when the kids on South Park swear.
On the commentary in the first episode, McFarlane says that whenever one of the characters sweared (Peter saying Oh, that's bull (rest covered by tuba noises) Or Lois saying What the (sounds of Peter driving a speedboat) the actors really did say the word.
It was kind of funny to hear Peter and Lois swearing (Especially on the commentary for Peter, Peter, Caviar Eater).

Great ep. I love the George Harrisson thing, (Charles in Charge). The Rocky and Bullwinkle gag. My favorite line in this ep was once Brian finished his whole speech on how his day was...peter responds with "you know what I haven't tried in a while...Big League Chew", that was fairly obscure, but hilarious. For those of you don't know: Big League Chew is a type of gum, that comes shredded in little pieces in a small pouch, I'm pretty sure it's still sold.

A Fight(s) To Remember, in the Family Guy Episode Review of "Lethal Weapons".
One of my favorites of the third season (even though I did miss about 5 of the episodes due to FOX's constant schedule change of the show during that time, among other things) probably due to it's humor and it's action. And since I promised a long review, I'll dive into that. While Family Guy can deliever a befy of great action scenes (that can actually be more exciting then humorous) this is probably the greatest collection of them. (Lois vrs the First New Yorker, Lois vrs the bar of New Yorkers, Lois vrs the fighting intrsuctor, and of course the Griffin Family Fight, which is right next to Peter vrs The Giant Chicken from "Da Boom" as greatest action moment.). Not that the humor wasn't bad either. Like when the baby kicked from inside Bonnie's stomach and Peter threathened it, and when the leafers came and everyone was so frightened. ("And Brown, like the guys I don't pick up in my cab), and the Jab at New York, as well as the talk about McDonalds, and The White Man's Dialogue at a Spike Lee Movie, and Stewie pretending to be a devil and then promoting Jack's Joke shop, and then the New York's at the church ("God is good huh, and if you don't worship him, he's gonna come down and kick you're sorry wazoo) and talking about the Movie with Julie Anderson in it ("Yes those are lovely, but that dosen't answer our question) and the bartender getting shot and not really knowing about it, and burning the lizard, and Quagmire accidentley hitting on the tranvestite, and Peter's idea (and my head would explode if I knew what I was talking about) and Peter pretending he was the killer tree, and Peter selling tickets to fight her wife, and Lois being a sideshow attraction, and Chris wrestling an imaginary girzzly bear, and Peter walking all over his wife and then Lois going to the advance class, and beating up that Lucy from the Peanuts lookalike, and stewie stretching before the swings, and then playing hoops ("Bring that trash in here, this is my house") and then Lois threathening that woman who took the swings from her, and Stewie being turned on by a messy diaper Then the second part, with Chris naming his leaves like they were friends and Meg chrushing them, and Lois making them hug each other, and all the garbage they left in their lawn (The New York Post and Times and The New York Mets) as well as Quagmire calling 911 and saying it was stuck again, Peter's comments to everyone in the drunken clam (espically the Superman refrence) Stewie's comments during the fight, Speed Three Glacier Cruise, Lois being the man in bed for once, and Stewie striking Peter with a bat, and Stewie pretending to interview Ed Sullivan on tape, and Stewie acting with the dolls ("Look at me, I'm insane, I'm Martin Lawerence on a bender) and Stewie leaving a bomb in her uterus and cutting of the stuffed doll's head, and Chris's drawing of Meg, and of course, Role Reversal with Lois as Peter ("Don't listen to your mother kids. She's worthless and dumb and ignore her and only listen to me, Peter") and Peter as Lois ("I'm Lois. I break for yard sales, but I don't let Peter buy anything he likes, like that Naragansca beer sign where the hot chick has two mugs for jugs. It was 8 freakin dollars and we have a dozen places to put it!") and Stewie as Brian ("I'm the dog. I'm well read and have a diverse thought portfolio but I'm not above eating grass clippings and regurigating them on the small braded rug near the door") and Brian as Stewie ("I'm a pompous little antichrist who will probably abandon my plans for world domination when I grow up and fall in love with a rough trick named Jim.") , Peter breaking the juice bottle, and Peter sending the letters of anger he wasn't suppose to, and the family taking the pills and singing the africian song, Peter dying a little inside by being multicultural, everyone stopping their fight to laugh at Peter being in the horse's ass drawing and Stewie ruining the moment by smacking Lois with a chair, and the end where Peter asks what the network's going to do about him badmouthing their violence policy (little did they know it wasn't budget cuts ((even though it was hilarious to see a crappy moved Peter trying to get a beer)) but rather cancellation at an early age and not even rights to syndicate... on their network anyway) because of the fight they just had. All an all, a very solid episode that I give an A+.

Eh...this one was alright...not bad, but not good (especially compared to the best of Family Guy). Definetely not as memorable as last night's episode. The big pay off was the ending fight sequence between the family. Maybe I'm too easily amused, but I loved that part. Beyond that, I don't remember that many great FG moments.

Lethal Weapons
It was ok, the begining was horrible with the "leafers" or whatever they were called, that was just to stupid for me. This episode actually revolved around one decent center plot line. The whole anger thing was very fit for Family Guy, although it did feel a bit dragged out and got pretty dull towards the end. The family fighting towards the end was just to long for me, it didn't seem like they needed to continue so long with the fighting. This was also one of those "Peter annoys me episodes", just the way he takes advantage of people, even his wife, sickens me. The Bar fight scene was hilarious.

The Simpsons doesn't suck. It's a classic show that's starting to suck out of senility. In my opinion, people don't give it enough credit. In my opinion, the suckiest episode of The Simpsons is better then the best episode of "The Bernie Mac Show" or "Oliver Beene".

One question: Was Stewie's "I don't have to *bleep*ing impress you people" (after his anti-Brian jokes) bleeped in the original run, or did CN edit something out?
It was bleeped by FOX. I know because whenever CN edits out an offensive word (like kraut on The Oblongs or the Jesus on "Holy Zombie Jesus" on Futurama), CN would mute it out, not bleep it.
Oh, and despite another post, The Thin White Line was good. It wasn't great, but maybe it's because CN's not airing part two of this until later this week. I give it a B- for effort (and because I thought it was good). I don't think there's a Family Guy episode I hate (well, I used to hate the entire series until I saw the episode where Peter is under house arrest for beating up a pregnant woman whom Peter thought was a man).

If you see the "One of By Clam, Two if by Sea" sign, you know it's either the Family Guy Episode Review, or the British are coming! The British are coming!
I think this is one of the best episodes that focus's on Peter and his friends (Joe, Quagmire and Cleveland) of the show. Like howPeter talking about how he would tell his boss he's going places over the years, Quagmire forgetting to say oh, Peter playing the glass juice, Peter talking about Jenny in his sleep, Quagmire tricking girls into sleeping with him, the hurricane destroying everything, Peter seeing god, going into the British bar and Peter thinking it's a gay bar and watching criquet and the British guy talking in a weird accent, Stewie meeting their daughter Eliza (espically throwing a six peice at her and taking a look down there and "ehing"), the guys at a lesbian bar (espically Quagmire's "You girls even been penetrated") and the King of the Hill refrence and the Arnold/Sylvester non-action movie, and Brian telling Stewie to shut up for a week. Part two continued with... the other stuff. I'm not really in the mood to review, so I'll just give it an A and move on.

Well, after a weaker one last night, this one was excellent. So many hilarious parts...the opening sequence with the changing times, Chris's dead rat theater, pretty much anything with the British bar, Quagmire, Peter being beaten by the British's "superior linguistics", the "real arsonist". One joke I really liked is when Peter made an obscure historical reference. Cut to the historical guy in question, who says, "You don't even know who I am!"
Also a lot of great parodies in this one: Tron was excellent, a quick KOTH parody, the British Stallone/Schwartzinegger film.
Biggest problem was the musical number, but that was short, so no biggie.

I can't even begin to tell you how hard I laughed at that. It's one of those moments where if you're with a bunch of people everyone will laugh, even though they don't know who it is, just to pretend they get the joke.
Then he looks at you and says that and you just have no choice but to burst out laughing. That's definitely going on the top 10 Family Guy moments.
Can't forget Brian lip reading Stewies "****you."
"I'm telling.."
"No wait! I said 'vaccum'!"
Priceless....

The "real arsonist" is one of my all time favorite FG gags. I like the fact that they didn't overplay the essential absurdity of a giant, flame-breathing bug. Just one shot of him after Peter's arrest, and the bit at the end.
Also liked the killer's realization that stabbing people hurts them. ("I belong in here!")
One quick question: It seems to me that the first commercial break (After Brian's "It wasn't a wager..." was a bit abrupt and Stewie's response was cut off. Did Stewie have some sort of response?
OVERALL RATING:
Good. Good.

This episode has some of my all time favorite scenes in the show...
The whole Lois fighting in the bar scene.
Peter: Jets suck, Yankees suck, Knicks suck...
[Lois kicks the charging New Yorker's behinds]
Peter: Krypton sucks
[Those 3 Kryptonians from the Superman movie tries to attack Lois and they get kicked into the Phantom Zone]
The whole family fighting scene at the end.
I swear this scene was longer on the Fox. I remember standing at the TV screen and laughing my behind off back for at least 5 minutes in the summer of 2000 when this episode first came on. Now it seems like it runs for 2 minutes at the most...

Actually, this episode first aired the summer of 2001, not 2000, and no, nothing was cut out. Now that I think about it though, the ending to "Lethal Weapons" makes more sense on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim then FOX. I mean, they have more violence on CN (Toonami And Adult Swim Action) of that degree then they do on FOX, and when Chris said "Maybe people are just naturally violent" and Lois said "No, I don't believe that" and went to talk about violence on TV, that sounded like something you would hear on Trigun. Oh, and as Matt Wilson, mentioned, the budget cut line makes more sense on AS as well, espically in comparision to WS shows. And the fact that if Family Guy had new episodes on AS, it would have a much lower budget then it did on FOX.

The Big Hollywood End To The Two Parter in "Brian Does Hollywood" Family Guy Episode Review.
Well, we all know the deal about the two parter, so let's just skip to the chase. The opening scene (which parodies other two parter shows) was great (espicallly trying to cut the blue wire and they're all blue wirers) as was Brian at the party and meeting Keanu Reeves (Heh, funny joke about him being a stiff actor, espically since Matrix 2 is coming out in a few days) the family watching whose line is it anyway, Stewie showing off his Mind control device and getting on the show by acting cute, Peter saying they're the family who says something clever before the commerical break only to end up speechless (Even though on CN it wasn't the Commerical break) Stewie making that guy his ***** on the flight, Peter swallowing the cell phone (espically when Quagmire was on the phone and said he had sex with a black chick and a black couple was next to him) and then the Jasper shot (espically the Sex and the City joke) and Peter talking about Porky's, and Stewie trying to impress the family by saying he's going to be on television, and of course Brian finding he's directing a porn movie ("So this is some kind of shampoo commerical right?", and "It's kind of like Bang the drum slowly, only it's a chick instead of a drum") and Peter and the LAPD, as well as Brian trying to direct the movie, and Samual L Jackson being everywhere, as well as Peter running over one of the actors from Cats, and Stewie talking with Bill Cosby ("You know it's my fault. I thought it was Kids say The Darnest Things, not old Black comedians try to get back on track, and Cosby getting the device and Stewie being hypotinized by it, and "And I like pudding, and Ghost Dad was the best movie since Lenoard Part 6), and Joan and Melissia Rivers not even being on television... except in their mind, the awards ceremony, and Brian being accepted by his family (which was touching not funny, but it was funny when he got the award ((that was blurred out)) and his award speech) and the family bringing home gifts (espically Peter bringing Jenna Jamenson home with him). There were a few slow spots, but that's okay. Overall, I give this episode an A-.

Another fine episode. The episode started off with the best part: the "Last time, on Family Guy" sequence. I think that now rivals Peter vs. Chicken as my top Family Guy moment. Beyond that, you had the great Bill Cosby sequence ("...old black comedians don't shut the hell up") and another funny (if simply due to how...wrong, it was) "Kids Say The Darndest Things" sequence with a traumatized little girl. Other jokes include the Woodpecker and Keanu Reeves, Brian's cousin, Michael Eisner's Disneyland thing, and the Woody Awards (with a censored statue, no less).
I wish more people responded to these talkbacks...I'm a little dissappointed a lot of people on this board don't like the show that much. Ah well, more for me.

I must thwart your plan, and make it less for you. <insert evil laugh>
This episode was decent, but that opening with the last time on Family Guy was definitely a keeper. I couldn't even keep track of how many different movies/shows they were in. The "Cats" scene was great too, "It jumped out of nowhere!"
I didn't check the credits though, was the man presenting the award Ron Jeremy or not? Cause he sure as hell looked like him.

THE "Woody was actually blurred more than on fox. On fox you could tell what it was supposed to be, on CN they double blurred it. Other than that, great episode. Did anyone see peters eyes when he got decapitated by brian at the beginning? Hilarious if you look closely.

I thought I saw some pixelation on the edge of the blur, so if it was just pixelated in the original Fox showed, CN double blurred it.

OH MY GOD:
A very tasteful episode. Mainly the kicks at the English and the pharse "The Life of The Wife, is ended by the Knife!". However the best part to me was, Trisa Takanowa saying "Diane I'm here at--", and the car slamming into her. :p I was laughing my ass off on that one!

I'm sure some people are expecting to hear this, so I'll get it out of the way at the beginning: Norm was better as Death.
However, this episode was a good one. Half a good storyline involving Death (Death's family and the ending girlfriend sequence being the funniest parts there) and an even better storyline of Peter's past (Quagmire stole the show with his scenes there). Lots of good jokes....the flagpole, Quagmire/Cleveland jokes, Lois's father, Death trying to fit in. A good one (though not as good as some other ones this week).

CN didn't double blur it. That award looked like they digitally painted it over, like they did the word "Japs" on the "No Japs Allowed" sign on this old theathrical cartoon called Blitz Wolf (it aired when CN had Toonheads: The War Cartoons). On FOX it looked the same; they didn't pixilate it. And on both versions I could still tell what it was (maybe it's because I've watched MTV and COPS as a kid and I've seen so many cannabis leaves, criminal's faces, breasts, genitals, designer clothes names, copyrighted names shown without permission, obscene gestures (praticularly, the middle finger), and written profanities blurred out and pixilated that I have some sort of super vision (that and I wear glasses :D)
Anyway, I liked all the episodes this week so I'm giving all of them an A.

When I saw the human thumb ebay thing, I was just like....holy crap. I dunno what it was about that scene, but when it was over I couldn't believe what I saw. I rewinded 10 times and kept watching.
"A human thumb! How'd you ever find this"
"It was on e-bay"
The rest of the episode was good to, the Quagmire thing was funny("Does this look like a Q to you?") And the very last scene where death kills the lady cuz she wouldnt shut up about the animals. Very good episode
P.S. The thumb e-bay think kicked ass

The Return Of The Grim Reaper in "Death Lives" The Family Guy Episode Review.
Sorry it took so late to get the review up. I missed the episode on Thursday but taped it, only watching it just know. Anyway, let's start this off. Lot's of good jokes in this episode, like Tom laughing on how he but his shirt on inside out, Peter cutting off his thumb and saying it was an Ebay gift, Peter getting hit by that frying pan and falling unconcious even with Frying Pan Immunity on, the scavanger hunt scenes (Stewie and Chris reading Archie comics, Lois chasing the dogs at the dogtrack, finding the clue on top of the pole, and when they found their goldfish in the sewer and he pointed a gun at them) as well as Cleveland constant references as Loretta's mother as a dog, and Peter getting hit by lightining after it seemed a tree would fall on him. Enter, death, who was probably better as Norm McDonald then Adam Carolla (Though he sounded exactly like Norm in "Wasted Talent" as death. Then again, that was only a bit part) but he does find here. His reactions to meeting Peter again and remembering what he wore in the 70's, as well as talking with his mother, trying to get a girl, then killing that Pet Store owner when she was talking about war and animals were all great bits. Then of course there were the flashbacks to Peter and Lois's relationship, which were funny and were actually pretty cute, in a romantic way. I give this episode a thumbs up (er... neverf mind, Ebay just took it) A.
