Yeah, they've already released a few games under the Atari name. I think they started doing that again last year. The name change bugs me a bit. It seems like they're only doing this because of the wave of nostalgia that seems to have hit everyone so hard.

You see kids today walking around in "Atari" shirts that they probably bought from Old Navy. The irony being that these are the same kids who would have beaten up the kids wearing Atari shirts when they first came out. 'Tis the circle of retro, I suppose.

Yes, I believe Stuntman was released under the Atari name, and I could have sworn DBZ: Budokai was, but I could be wrong.

about DBZ, I'm fairly sure it was Bandai, not Atari, but I'm not positive, only fools are positive

DBZ: Budokai was released by Infogrames in the US and Bandai in Japan and Europe (might have been Infogrames in the UK as well, but I'm pretty sure it was Bandai). Atari had nothing to do with it. They're name wasn't even on the box, but it will be on the Gamecube version for sure.

Godzilla: Destroy all Monster's Melee was released under the Atari name. However that was a different situation. Before Infogrames merely owned Atari and they put out a few games. Now Infogrames IS Atari (clever ploy to mess with our nostalgic minds). All future releases by Infogrames will go under Atari wether or not the Atari Team produced it.

DBZ: Legacy of Goku II for instance... Is being made by Web Foot Technologies, but is being published under Atari (Infogrames). Thus it says Atari on the box, but Legacy of Goku I says Infogrames.

Bandai controls Dragonball everywhere except the US where they had the rights for games a while back, but never really capitalized on it. They only released Dragonball GT: Final Bout in the US while there were many Super Famicom, Famicom, and PSX games as well as a few for Gameboy and one on Genesis (there were more on Playdia and stuff as well). Bandai published Budokai in Japan because Infogrames doesn't have the rights in Japan and Dimps made it so Infogrames had no ties to it.

Infogrames was the lucky company that picked up Dragonball's rights for US distribution, and unlike Bandai... they actually did something with them. So far there are 4 games. 2 on GBA, one on GBC, and one on PS2, and there are many more to come. All of which will be published under Infogrames new name ATARI.

I hope that cleared things up for you guys.

Sweet! They tried to kill it, but it keeps bouncing back!

I'm glad. "Infrogrames" was always one of the lamer names out there. Sure, "Atari" is kind of unfairly capitalizing on a wave of 80's nostalgia, but I still think it's better than the alternative.

Atari's back and it's now a Franco/American company? Does anyones fail to see the irony in that?

Growing with a 2600 and playing many of their classic arcade games, it just not the same to me. To me the Atari I knew back in the early 80's is quite dead but at least I can play most of those old games on Stella.

Again, don't assume that it will work. Hasbro tried to do this a few years ago and failed miserably - so miserably that it had to sell Hasbro Interactive, including the Atari name, to Infogrames.

Actually, Hasbro just sold their rights to all they had to Atari Corp.'s console games. Atari Games Corp.'s games are with Midway. It's just too bad Midway killed Atari games not too long ago.
