View Full Version : Even more animation mistakes

I'm too lazy to dig through the archives and search for the last "More Animation Mistakes" thread I started, so I start a new one:

In CHICKEN JITTERS, when the fox is laughing when they first show him, his mouth isn’t moving along to the laugh.

CORN PLASTERED: When the crow sticks a corn cob with a dynamite stick inside of it in the old farmer’s back pocket, the middle part of the corn cob disappears for a quick frame, but the top of the cob is still shown!

[B]HARE LIFT]/B]: Somebody at the spumco.com forum pointed this out, but toward the end of this cartoon, when Sam puts on a parachute and jumps out the plane, when his parachute comes out, watch carefully, and you'll notice that Sam's body transforms into the body of a robot! My guess is that that scene of Sam on the parachute was reused animation from earlier in the cartoon when the pilot robot did the same thing, and toward the end of the reused animation scene, they forgot to redraw the robot as Sam. That's funny. :D

A Wild Hare Bugs's carrot goes away when he sets it down at the beggining of the cartoon. Also Elmers gun appears, than dissappears during the "I bewieve this fewwow is a R-A-B-B-I-T!" bit. And, Elmer's nose changes color as he hides behind a tree.

Goofy Gophers When the dog says "Stunning, isn't it?" His lips don't move.

A fued There Was Egghead's motocycle dissappears when Egghead sets it down. His whistle also dissappears as soon as he's done blowing on it. Plus, how in the world does Egghead walk by the windows without the audience seeing him?

In the Bosko cartoon "Big Man From The North", the peg leg of the villain keeps switching from leg to leg.

In "Strife With Father", Monty's monacle keeps switching from the left eye to the right eye.

In "Sleepy-Time Tom", two of the cats at the beginning of the short are painted the opposite colors when they reappear at the end.

In "The Loan Stranger" (Lantz), the fox loaner's suit is constantly changing from dark brown, to light brown.

Same mistake appears in Gene Dietch's "Dicky Moe"--worst all-fired Dietch-directed TT&J ever made, IMO.

Hanna-Barbera shorts post-limited animation are rife with errors. I was watching Scooby-Doo yesterday, which was about a werewolf, and a really weird effect resulted when the collar of Velma's sweatshirt was colored fleshtone rather than orange. For about three seconds the lass had a thick muscle-builder's neck! I've noted in another ep that her glasses frames turned white during part of a scene.

In an episode of Muppet Babies, the lower half of Scooter's face turned as green as Kermit's, and alternated between that shade and its normal orange several times in a minute.

I believe I've mentioned this one before, but in a Bugs Bunny short aboard Yosemite Sam's ship, he scribbles grafitti on the deck floor that Sam tries to rub out unsuccessfully. In a scene shift it inexplicably vanishes.

Speaking of Scooby Doo, I remember watching one episode where the gang got dumped with a ton of fish, and when Scoob dug his hand in the pile of fish to pull out Shaggy, his whole arm was colored green! That never fails to make me laugh whenever I watch it.

This has happened many times before in cartoons. Some examples I can think of right now:

"Corn on the Cop"-When Porky is getting rid of the nails, he says "One thing I can't stand is poor carpentry", his lips don't move.

"Robot Rabbit"-When Bugs is running from the robot, he says "I better do some fast thinking, or this cigarette machine is gonna give me no end of trouble!", the same thing happens.

It makes me think that these lines were added after the animation was done...

Two more:

Hillbilli Hare: Bugs's blue skirt is supposed to be tattered and everything, but in one part during the squaredance sequence, the skirt isn't tattered.

Spaced Out Bunny: At the beggining, we see Bugs walking across a field and you see him put his hand in his left "pocket". But when the camera goes to a close-up of Bugs, his hand is in his right "pocket".

On the Flintstones episode with The Prowler(season 1), when Wilma pokes her head out of the hole in the wall, she smiles before saying,"Had enough..." When she sees the Prowler, screams and ducks back inside, she's horrified, but just before her head disappears, that SMILE is back!
Clearly, she wasn't happy there! :D

There was a 2nd/3rd season episode where, for a split second, her head disappears ENTIRELY!!!

Also, there's a slew of Popeyes from the '30s where his mouth doesn't move to his words! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

In WALKY TALKY HAWKY when Foghorn says to Henery, "There's a chicken!" and the camera pans over to Barnyard Dawg sleeping outside of his dog house, one of Barnyard Dawg's hands disappears for a quick frame.

During the minstrel show end gag in "Fresh Hare", the color of Elmer's nose changes back & forth from 'black' to 'fleshtone'.

I found another one while watching "Confusions of A Nutzy Spy" last evening. After Porky confronts Missing Lynx and asks him if he's seen a spy, Lynx stands next to his own "Wanted" poster and asks "Does he look like this?" As he does, the whiskers on his face disappear.

Box Office Bunny: While this episode is low-bugeted there's one scene that BUGS me. Elmer tells Bugs he didn't see Bugs enter the theater. While this is true how would Elmer be able to remember who came in and who didn't, as crowds of people flooded the theater in 3 seconds flat!

Cinderella Meets Fella: When Egghead is searching for Cinderella he goes up to the cukoo clock, and a bunch of cukoo birds come out saying, "Now you KNOW she wouldn't be in here!" One of the birds dissapear for a frame.

Little Go Beep: According to Jerry Beck's website, Wile E. Coyote's dad tells him, "Not another word until you catch a roadrunner." This of coarse explains the eternal silence. However Wile E. talks in the Bugs-Vs.-Coyote cartoons (with the exeption of Hare-Berth Hurry). I don't think Little Go Beep will be that great after all. It's amazing how a cartoon short can be ruined by one glaring flaw. Perhaps if the director took the time out for some research and cared a little more, this cartoon would have been okay. Oh, well, that's the breaks for you.

I dunno, not even the original directors kept things consistant. "Hare Splitter" (where Bugs has a girlfriend) isn't ruined for me because of "Hold The Lion Please." (where Bugs is married)

The Fast and Furry-ous has a scene where Wile E's tail appears and disappears rapidly.

...in Avery's "Northwest Hounded Police", the doctor's mustache flickers in and out of the scene as McWolf grabs and shakes him.

Don't even get me started on Tiny Toon Adventures episodes animated by Kennedy. Besides the weird "boneless chicken" walk they're famous for, I recall thinking the animators made Babs look terribly cross-eyed in some shots....

Christopher Crumpet: Chrumpet's dad is talking on the phone, and mid way through conversation, the phone cord disappears. It then reappears when he hangs the phone up.

it's the knob on the VCR that allows super-slow manipulation of the tape image (so people with nothing better to do can find a 1/10 of a second blip in a 'toon)

My VCR has no such knob, it's just that the phone cord was missing for a long time, much longer than a frame or two.

DAFFY DOODLES - When Porky says to the camera, "I'm a b-b-b-booby trap" his left shoulder disappears in a couple of frames.

A PEST IN THE HOUSE - When the hotel guest is hanging on the chandelier after being frightened by the open window, one of his ears turns white.

PorkyandDaffy
03-25-2002, 04:00 PM
BUCANEER BUNNY - During the wild in-one-door-and-out-the-other chase sequence, the last door that Bugs goes into opens from the left. However, when Sam opens the door, it opens from the right.

HENPECKED HOBOES - When Junior picks all of the fur off of George (mistaking him for the hen), he also pulls off his vest. Then Junior puts him in a pot. But when the pot opens up afterwards, George still has his vest on.

HIS BITTER HALF When Daffy is reading the newspaper at the beginning, his hand disappears for a frame.

The same scenes where appear with Sylvester and Tweety in "The Rebel Without Claws."

MY LITTLE DUCKAROO - One little bit, the Porky's shirt where violet in the place of blue during the battle Daffy vs. Canasta

Mississippi Hare- Just before Colonel Shuffle falls off the boat in blackface, his face changes back to white.

"Saturday Evening Puss"- When Mammy Two-Shoes drags Tom back towards the door by the tail, the blue part of her sleeve turns brown like her arm, but the cuff stays green!

HALF FARE HARE - When Bugs is surrounded by the huge cloud of smoke, in one quick second, the gray smoke turns black and Bugs stomach overlaps over the clouds of smoke instead of behind the cloud like it should have been.

FRENCH RAREBIT - During one second, a carrot where Bugs in cook cut for the recipt of the rabbit a la Antoine were yellow at the place of orange.

There's one scene in "Lady Play Your Mandolin" in which Foxy's horse gets drunk and starts dancing around. Right before he spontaniously combusts from too much booze, he starts flashing for a while, as if the color of the cels is alternated from light gray to white over and over again. Whether intented or not, it looks weird. In "Porky Pig's Feat", there is a glitch in the final scene where part of Daffy's arm turns white for a few frames. I think this is actually preserved in the colorized version. There are tons of them in Rudy Larriva's Road Runners, most prevalently in "Shot and Bothered", where in one scene the Coyote falls off a cliff and freezes in place on the ground, but when a rock falls on top of him he doesn't change expression, and due to the cels overlapping, it looks like the rock has missed him.

In many of the Popeye cartoons, Popeye talks without moving his mouth, as though muttering under his breath. Sometimes he moves his lips, sometimes not...I understand this was because Jack Mercer enjoyed ad-libbing the character's lines.

In "Porky Pig's Feat," when the hotel manager nails boards on the window of the hotel to trap Porky and Daffy near the end of the cartoon, about 4 nails disappear a split second after they're nailed.

Southern Fried Rabbit- When Yosemite Sam interrupts Bugs Bunny's rendition of 'Yankee Doodle' Bugs stops moving his mouth, as if to say '...and called it macero..' but the soundtrack carries on right to the end of the song.

The Great Piggy Bank Robbery- When Daffy says, "Say! It looks like a piggy bank crime wave!" For a brief second Daffy is not wearing gloves.

OK, here's one...

Now, I can't remember the title, but it's a Bugs & Yosemite Sam toon that takes place on a train at one point Bugs dumps some red ink on Sam's head and Sam thinks he's been shot.

OK now that you have the description here's the error...
In the beginning of the 'toon Sam has a mole on his nose (it also shows up on his wanted poster). BUT about half way thru the picture.... no more mole!

And, it never reappears.

Really more a sound editing error, but in BEWITCHED BUNNY, after Hansel and Gretel leave (Hansel? HANSEL? :) ), Witch Hazel locks the door and appears to laugh as she wields her axe. But you don't hear her laugh. Stalling does provide a quick 'laughing' instrumental at that point.

Very similar to HARE RESTORER, where Elmer appears to do his trademark 'waugh' after his formula turns all different colors and then sputters and explodes out of control.

The Big Snooze - After Elmer pieces together his contract near the end of the cartoon, Bugs can clearly be seen in the background speaking, except there is no dialogue on the soundtrack.

Foney Fables - A baby's leg disappears for several frames, during a "little piggie" routine, in one scene.

Draftee Daffy - A cel set-up mix-up. When the little man from the draftboard enters Daffy's home, he should be walking in front of the opened door, but his extended hand holding the draft letter disappears behind the door. Obviously the door was on the wrong cel level and should have been placed under the cel of the little man.

Thru the Mirror (Disney) - A couple of decks of playing cards leap from an opened drawer to chase Mickey. Throughout the animation cycle, though, several stacks of cards disappear and reappear randomly. There is also a skip in the animation of Mickey leaping and falling into the "ocean" of a globe, as if a few of the drawings were filmed out of sequence. (Also, the three-strip technicolor is misaligned for one frame in one scene.)

THE DAFFY DOC - When Daffy reads the sign he holds up that says "Hush Yo Mouf", he says "Shut Yo Mouf" instead of "Hush" like it's said on the sign.

"CatDog" Show #48: Episode Title "Picture This"
When Lola Caricola flies in through CatDog's open window as Dog completes his intersting piece of artwork, you will notice Lola's familiar red dress has white polka dots on it. Yet after the legendary whipporwill lands in front of Dog, her dress is the famed solid red as in a couple other "Lola Caricola Masterpieces" shorts.
And then, as Lola flies out the window to head out to study moose- according to her-, her dress again has white polka dots on it! :bosko:

Oh, so now we're doin' mistakes from not-so classic cartoons. Well, in that case here';s some bloopers from some Angry Beavers cartoons.

Kreature Komforts- When Norb says, "We have to take this through patience!" Dag says, "Fine! Freak!" Followed by Norb saying, "Oh, you wern't calling me a freak were you?" If you look carefully, Norb reacts on secong before Dag said, "Freak".

Enter the Dagett- Possibly the biggest blooper of all. Norb's nose is colored red at the start of the cartoon.

Dag in the Mirror- When Norb is looking through the magazines, Norb's arms are painted brown (the hell?). Also near the end of the episode, Dag's gloves keeps appearing and dissapearing.

Damnesia- Really bizzare animation blooper in this episode. Dag remarks, "Norb never let me ride the street sweeper!" Followed by Norb saying "I'M NOT NORB!" HOWEVER Norb's mouth DOES NOT move. INSTEAD Dag's mouth moves, even though he is not the one saying the line. Weird.

Unsure Runts - When the Fox opens his door to see the Crow, towards the end of the cartoon, he is still in his pajamas. But when there's a close up of the two, the Fox is in his regular blue bowtie and pants.
