Here's a question that's been bugging me for quite awhile, hopefully some of you owners/lovers of motorcycles can help me out. Okay, there's this guy on our block, right across the street in fact, who every.single.night. can be heard revving his engine for god only knows how long. It's annoying as hell, and I really want to go smack him upside the head. Last I checked, I've never heard of a motorcycle needing to be revved for so long, and in fact, I would think that would ruin the engine. Could anyone help me here?

Every night, huh? If it was just taken out of storage or something, that'd be understandable, but in this case, it doesn't seem reasonable. There must be a reason, as this seems to be irregular behavior. I must say that I pity you. That'd drive me nuts!
How late does this happen? Maybe some night he'll be doing it past the time your local by-laws allow for such noise and you can get the police to bust him for disturbing the peace. Heh heh heh... ;) At the very least, maybe they could get an answer for you.

Hoaf, some people are a little wacko. A friend's neighbor has a really nice truck he's crazy about like that, but I don't think he revs in the middle of the night. I think he has a force-field around it, though, too keep the kids and dust and so on away.
Anyway, unless he's revving it to the point where it sounds like the bike itself is in pain, it's probably not doing it any harm. Might waste gas, but that's about it. In fact, from my understanding, all engines should be turned on and exercised regularly, especially if they're not actually going to be used (or as Batmanuel mentioned, after being stored). But revving every night, for a long time? Nah. I wouldn't think he has to do that. Maybe the guy just finds it relaxing. Iinconsiderate, though. You should go out and tell him (or yell out the window) about how great your freeways are this time of year. Unless they're terrible.
Then again, it might be an antique/highly prized machine, and he doesn't want to put any wear on it. :p Bike owners... (*sigh, where's the jealous smilie when you need one?*)

nah, it's like a regular old speeder bike. Like not even an "real" motorcycle if you will. Sometimes I'll hear or see him drive through the neighborhood...but that's about it. He works, he's got a lot of kids...they're like the Brady Bunch or something...so he doesn't ever seem to ride it that much. Just bring it out, make all that dang racket revving the engine, and then he's done. But he'll do it anywhere from 5 to 8 at night. I can possibly understand the late afternoon, but not when it nears night. I'm really getting more and more tempted to go over and ask him if it's really necessary. Especially because my dad's been in the hospital for two months, and we've just gotten him home..we all found the motorcycle business annoying as heck before, but now I just think my neighbor is being dang inconsiderate of anyone else in the neighborhood. This is also considering that we've had issues with his kids before because they never go down to the park to play ball. They'll play in the middle of street, and a lot of people park their cars in the driveway or on the side of the street. It wouldn't be a big deal if it was basketball or something...but they'll be playing baseball with a tennis ball using bats and rackets. Uh, no thanks, I'd prefer to not have dents all over my car!
