Hmm... isn't Big-Heel Watha an indian cartoon? I was hoping they'd get around to showing Horse Hare, one of the "bad" bugs cartoons!

How many times have they shown BIG HEEL-WATHA? I swear, they must show it regularly now or something. The Indians in this cartoon are stereotypical looking and they do talk, so I'm surprised they do show this pretty often. How about showing other Indian cartoons then?

Well, it is nice to see this Tex Avery classic getting more airtime. I remember the first time I saw it was on one of those Down with Droopy D. on weekday mornings, before school, when I was in first grade. IMO, I'd consider this THE BARNEY BEAR SHOW, since they showed every single Barney Bear uncut (with the exception of "The Little Wise Quacker").

Seeing "Big Heel-Watha "was definitely the stand-out of this pretty routine Acme Hour, and the only short I haven't seen in a while. The Indian seems to be a distant cousin of the pilgrim in"Jerky Turkey", complete with Droopy voice and big nose...and note that Screwy has a gold front tooth (which I found odd). The ending, where all the Indians get a look at the princess and leap into the stewpot, was the high point. "You'll be sorry!" Screwy cries, lifting her mask to reveal a pretty lass underneath. Note also the references to wartime rationing, with the animals all assigned a point value, and a pun on the word "point" involving a deer's antlers.
Censors are insane. "Pygmy Hunt" aired just last week, but not "Porky's Ant", which basically is the same darn gag. Thank the Lord for public domain tapes or I wouldn't have seen a lot of these unaired, un-PC classics....
