Well, for all of those who said that it'd be a while before ADV started acquiring titles outside their own library for broadcast on their "network" are now proven wrong. It seems that, according to Anime News Network, Right Stuf sold broadcasting rights to the series Boogie Pop Phantom to Anime Network (a way of promoting their re-release of the series on DVD, no doubt).
This is also, I believe, the first Right Stuf title to air on TV. Given that this isn't in all technicallity a real "TV network" in the typical sense, this news isn't exactly a huge deal. But, this surely will help pave the way for more distributors to sell their stuff to ADV for broadcasting on Anime Network, and that can certainly only help them when time comes to launch a 24/7 TV network.

Nope. Irresponsible Captain Tylor aired on the International Channel a couple of years ago. :)
But it's good to see BoogiePop get a chance, even if I don't understand it. :D

Well this is a step in....some direction for the channel. I highly doubt that CN and TAN will be directly competing due to the On-Demand factor of the other (and that ADV and CN are finally on friendly terms), but it does mean something when other anime companies start allowing their stuff to be shown on TAN. (note to self: hope that they haven't gotten rid of the "new" stuff they put up in March)

Sounds like good news to me - non-ADV stuff on the Anime Network sounds like a definite step forward in it's journey towards becoming the real and true Anime Channel (as opposed to the ADV ads channel!:p)

Well, since the main point of this channel seems to be to advertise new DVD releases, I'm not surprised. But hey, whatever will help ADV to acquire some broadcasting rights from other companies. . . And I'm not complaining about the focus of the Anime Network; it is a good way to get an idea about whether or not a show is something you want to own.
So, what's BoogiePop Phantom about anyway? (I've heard the name, but that's about it.)

I watched it this semester (well, I need to finish it) and it is sort of weird. It is basically a collection of several stories of various characters connected together around several incidents that had occured, the main one being a mysterious beam of light appearing in the sky.
Well, I can't explain it that well, but here is a webpage that has some good Boogiepop info:

Thanks for the info and the link! :) I now feel. . . confused. . . but, enticed! :p I'll look forward to seeing it make it's appearance on TAN!

But doesn't Right Stuf use ADV's distribution to retail stores? If so, then they already have a buddy relationship, right?

But doesn't Right Stuf use ADV's distribution to retail stores? If so, then they already have a buddy relationship, right?Nope. As far as I know, everything from producing the DVD, to the packaging, marketing, and DVD/TV distribution on all Right Stuf titles (Kare Kano, BoogiePop Phantom, Captain Tylor, etc.) are handled by Right Stuf themselves.http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Just remember to put emphasis on the "as far as I know" part of the sentence before any of you attack me over my statement :p.
