Check out the link for some info on the Metal Gear Solid remake for gamecube. Apparently its being dubbed Twin Snakes (at least by the story's title). While all of this is awsome news, the real knocker is the reoport that Silicon Knights is heading up the project! They are a fantastic developer and as long as it doesn't interfere with Too Human or any other original projects, I am all for it.

Seriously, who cares?

Each and every day, Nintendo proves how far behind they are. A remake of MGS1? WHY?! You can get it for the PC now for like $10. You can get it for the PSX for $6. There is nothing they can add that would make it a worthwhile purchase. PC MGS promised updated graphics... which obviously wasn't the case, and other remakes for the GC (Sonic Adventure DX) don't have updated graphics, so why should I believe them? Planet Gamecube assumes that the graphics will be out of this world (which is what it is, an assumption), but there's only so much you can do with a PSX game without starting over from scratch.

OH, but the GBA acts as a codec. Well THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING.... oh wait, it's still the SAME GOD DAMN STORY WE ALL PLAYED THROUGH 15 TIMES.

Sigh. Why exactly is Silicon Knights working on it anyway? Is Konami ashamed to associate themselves with it? Seems like it.

I agree with Matt....

Nintendo.... what happened to that common sense thing we've been talking to you about? I expect this to be as big a hit as the Resident Evil games... which haven't been that big a hit.

New games sell. Remakes of old oringals.... ugh.

Personally I guess this is good news for me. I never played the original, but business-wise I know this is a pretty stupid move for Nintendo. It'd be worse if it was found they had the option to make an new MGS game, but decided to go with a remake of the original instead.

Who cares? Well I do for one. Any why should I?

1)Silicon Knight's Eternal Darkness is one of the finest gaming experiences I have ever had. Anything they work on in the future is going to peak my intrest.

2)If the update is on the same level as the Resident Evil remake (ie visuals, new items, new story elements, different locations and ememies) the game is a must own in my book. I can get RE psx for 10 dollars too, but the REmake is different enough to warrant purchase.

I agree with you and John that a new game is better than remake any day. And it does seem Nintendo is getting this game for the sake of saying "we have metal gear". GBA connectivity means nothing to me as well. If this remake turns out to be a high res MGS (like the PC), then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. If it takes the RE route, I have high hopes for the game.

This better be a remake and not turn out like like RE2 and RE3.

Hoplefully this is not the same as the PSX/PC verison. Otherwise I will be very disapointed if it turns out like crap.

Here's hoping it will be more akin to Capcom's Resident Evil 1 remake

Here is some more info.

I like this paragraph.

"The Twin Snakes retells the story of the Shadow Moses mission with the visual detail of Metal Gear Solid 2 -- even doing it one better in some cases -- and all the extra game features that sequel added. The Gamecube revival will thus include the first-person combat mode, more advanced enemy AI, more varieties of enemies (like the shield-equipped assault guards), and more equipment for Solid Snake to use."

Making MGS1 look like MGS2 doesn't sound like an easy task. They'd have to completely recreate it instead of just smoothing things like in a PC Version. MGS2 may be a year and a half old but it still looks great.

...which is kinda what Capcom did with RE. Making the visual stlye like the newer version. As for me I'm excited. 'Cause if it sells well I'll be able to see MSG2 and eventually MGS3.

I know I'll buy it, I only just recently played the first one on that Dreamcast emulator BLEEM and even then it had to conquer a whole VMU and some of the controlls were funky

This was dissapointing news to me too. If they were going to remake a Metal Gear game then they should at least remake the original NES one which very few people have played. A remake of a three year old game won't sell any copies. Hopefully SK is taking a cue from the RE series and totally revamping it into a totally new game so we'd want to play it.

Completely redoing the engine will take a while to do, just like RE took. And they're just starting now.

What are you talking about? The graphics are clearly better then the Dreamcast version.

Your joking, right? Sonic Adventure looks identicle to the Dreamcast version. Heck, reviews I read said it even had the same frame rate problems + new ones. Sega's porting of Sonic to Cube is one of the bigger half-assed attempts of porting I've yet to see. At least MGS and RE had some effort behind them...

MGS on GameCube? Sweet!
By Silicon Knights? Double Sweet!

I don't know what all the fuss is about. The RE remake was spectacular, and hopefully this will be the same way.

And as for Sonic Adventure DX: I only saw two screenshots from it but I really can't tell there was a graphical change.

Well as IGNCube.com puts it.

Twin Snakes, more or less a total remake of the PS1 game Metal Gear Solid, has been under development by SK for a considerable amount of time, and the company has worked hard to up the graphics presentation of the title so that it more closely resembles the recently released next-generation Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In fact, it's said to look even prettier. The title will ship later this year in the US and Europe and early 2004 in Japan.

Silicon Knights is re-creating the game under the guidance of Konami's Hideo Kojima and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto

So this isn't some attempt to rake in some quick cash from the us by a slapped together port.

Hideo Kojima also goes on to say:

"I am tremendously excited to introduce a unique Metal Gear Solid experience to a new audience of gamers as well as collaborate with my mentor in game design, Mr. Miyamoto, on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Nintendo GameCube," said Hideo Kojima, vice president, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan.

No, it isn't. But it is HIGHLY misguided. If you're going to spend all the money and manpower that you would on a new game, why give us a retooling of something we've already seen? It's foolish, and it's not what gamers want. As for Silicon Knights doing it, that's weird, completely out of left field, and both foreboding and promising at the same time.

Namco is doing Starfox. Capcom is doing Zelda. Sega is doing F-Zero. Factor 5 is doing Pilotwings. And Silicon Knights is doing Metal Gear. Weird times, people.
