Just heard a rumor on the winds that Chewbacca the Wookie is going to be in frelling Episode III!
Anyone able to confirm this?
You might want to put "*semi-spoiler?*" in the topic name...

Here's a short article I found at imdb.com:
Chewie Is Bacca :p
Star Wars fans are rejoicing after George Lucas decided to resurrect beloved character Chewbacca in Episode III. The Wookie, played in the original trilogy by Peter Mayhew, will be part of the action in the last of the prequels - due to hit screens in 2005. And Mayhew - a regular at fan conventions - will reprise his role as Han Solo's trusty sidekick. Mayhew says, "I'm delighted to return as Chewbacca. I think his re-appearance in this film is a fitting way to tie the whole saga together, especially for Wookie fans."

Who else here thinks Chewy will be animated in CGI, with Mayhew providing the voice?

I wouldn't put it beyond Lucas though. CGI is nice when used in moderation, but using it just because you can makes it look terrible and overly fake.

I certainly hope they don't use CGI for Chewie! The original looked perfect. As Charles Oakley would say, "if it ain't broke, don't break it." :) Though as MDawg957 said, it shouldn't be put past George Lucas to do it. He did it with Yoda and only got it right in Episode II.

Did somebody call?
Oh...
Seriously, that would be pretty cool, come to think of it...

*blinks* dude..no way...*squeals and runs over the theforce.net* Oh how flipping cool. I'm such a huge Chewie fan! *glances up and cuddles luckybob's avatar* But if they make him CGI, I might just have to kill Lucas, and I really dont want to have to do that. This is just so nifty, and I'm definitely going to have to grab an autograph from Mayhew at this year's Comic Con. Wonder how they'll fit him in...

Word around the campfire is that Chew ages like an elf, so he could be full in his warrior prime or just a "teenage" butt-kicker come the time when he first meets Team SW Alpha.
I think by time he's chillin' with his homie, Han, that he's a stern respectable age o' 200.
At least that's the word I heard.... :knd1:

I'm sorry, but I think putting Chewbacca in Episode III could be a bad idea. His introduction in Star Wars was fine, and to introduce him in Episode III would just cheapen that. If it's just a quick cameo, that's fine, but if Chewie's a major character, especially if he interacts with Obi-Wan, I just can't see it working. If they want a wookie, they should make a new wookie character (or use Itchy, who would be about Chewie's age at the time of Episode III). Don't get me wrong, Chewie's a great character, but to have him involved in the story before Episode IV would do more bad than good. And a CGI Chewie, that's just stupid, and more-or-less impractical.

I'm not sure... the universe of Star Wars gets smaller and smaller as we go - rather than getting bigger. I'd be interested to see how he fits. As long as they make it relevant that's fine, it would be great to see the Wookiee again in a live role. I just hope it's not a silly addition like how 3P0 was added to The Phantom Menace. Anakin's droid? How ridiculous was that? It made no sense with the rest of the film and just made the series almost soap like.... 'What? 3P0 was Anakin's robot? And R2 was Obi Wan's friend...? Luke and Leia siblings? Don't tell me Lando used to streak across the hangers on Naboo alongside Jar Jar.... *shudder*
That's wrong.
