This morning at work I was surprised to see an empy section between the Sci-fi and Anime DVD sections. I asked my manager what was up with it and he told me that we were expanding the Anime section again (we did so just a few months ago).
He said that the Miyazaki movies did well enough last week to draw attention to how decently the other anime stuff sells also, and that more product will be shipping in soon. I asked if this was a store only or BestBuy-wide change, he said the whole company
so hopefully this means that we all would have better access to great anime titles soon

This is great news.
Their stuff is pretty cheap too.
I bought the 5th Inuyasha DVD there yesterday for $17.99! ($19.34)

This could be to our advantage, or at least mine! I like Best Buy in that they had cheap anime (well, cheaper than Suncoast), but never quite had the selection that kept me coming back. (opposed to Suncoast, which probably had as much stuff as the web, only you would buy it there without waiting) If they expand all their stores anime selection, that could be the key...

Their selection for me has been rather lousy... if they start to carry what I'm looking for I may start buying anime at a PHYSICAL store again - a little bit.

My Best Buy doesn't seem to be all bad as it stands now. They currently carry nearly every anime I've ever heard of plus plenty more. But still, this is good news for everyone else I suppose.

Mine isn't bad either. In fact, I'd venture to say that if they expanded their selection, it would be overkill. Mine has pretty much everything, including a whole anime subsection which is just box sets.

God I hope this happens to the best buys in my area so i no longer have to travel like 25 miles to the closest suncoast to get anime i can't get at best buy or anywhere else around me. Plus I won't have to pay tax plus upon the already cheap best buy prices.

That is not fair, the one up here does not even sell that DVD and mostly Sailor Moon, DBZ and Tokyopop DVD's, and I have been at Suncoast ever snice because of the lack of DVD's at my Best Buy Store.

My Best Buy have a pretty good selection. Unfortunately, most of it consists of brand new titles, popular movies, or old titles that people don't pick up. They don't have individual DVDs of series like "Trigun" or "Escaflowne" or like that. If Best Buy expands to bring these titles to my area, I won't have to pay $30 at Suncoast for older titles like that.

Excellent news; Best Buy rocks. It may not be Suncoat, but its pretty damn close.

Mine has a good selection, but it's not perfect. They carry most all of the Bandai, ADV, Pioneer, and Tokyopop releases, as well as some of the Funimation ones. But they do miss an occasional title...they have yet to stock any of Funi's Lupin movies, so I have to go to a Suncoast for those. They're also pretty slow on some releases. They get ADV and Bandai stuff on time, but they're usually a few weeks late on Funi and Pioneer stuff. If they'd fix that, then it'd be great.

On the day Spirited Away got released I noticed that the anime section have tripled, I got all the new stuff I wanted. This is great because Best Buy is my only outlet to purchase anime, I try to go at least once a month.

Technically, Suncoast == Best Buy. Same Company. Heh.

Hmm, we've had every Funi Lupin movie, every single Funi release in a while. Infact, the only things we don't get are (For some reason) Bandai LE Boxes (Other than the .hack box) and Pioneer LE Boxes that come with DVD 1. My Best Buy has a pretty damn big selection, probably because Employees buy most of it, heh.

My store usually gets those boxes in, infact we usually get a lot of them in (about 5-6 of them initially)...now that I think of it, Pioneer ones we only get a few in, ADV is the one that supplies us with alot of stuff (we got 12 RahXephon vol1 Boxes and 8 NeoRanga vol1 boxes)
but my store generally sells anime fairly well, no less ion my part, I even have repeat customers who respect my taste in anime and will strongly consider my recommendations (I got a few hooked on Excel Saga and one or 2 hooked on AiYori Aoshi)
about not having individual DVDs of older, more popular titles like Eva, Nadesico and Trigun , I too have noticed this, but since our sister companies (Suncoast, Sam Goody) usually do, I'm assuming the big company just sends them there instead of to us. of corse, it done'st bother me since my discount works there too, but I do feel for you guys, sincde their prices are more than BB's are (cause of the price they have to pay for being a mall outlet, like KB toys is more expensive than ToysR Us)

Not completely the same. Buying anime at Best Buy is usually normal priced (ie. lower than MSRP). To buy anime at Suncoast, I need to put a down payment and then pay off the rest with equal monthly payments. See the difference?

I agree. Suncoast is definitely more expensive. I rarely see anime titles that I'm looking for for less than $29.99. At Best Buy the same title would be $5-$10 cheaper.
I can't wait to see the anime section at best buy expanded though. I've been trying to get the third fruits basket dvd for three weeks now. They always say it's coming, but it's always sold by the time i get there (they only order one dvd every two weeks) I'd also like to see more titles too, maybe I can actually start buying more anime if Best Buy sells it cheaply enough.

Also Suncoast can attempt to raise prices if Product demand is lacking then we got a problem.

Just came back from my Best Buy, and found the exact same thing. All "Inuyasha" DVDs prices at $17.99. That's, what, $7 off the retail price? It's about as good as when I bought "Zone of the Enders: I Dolo" for $15 instead of $25...or the first volume of "Noir" for $19.99 instead of $29.99!
Best Buy rocks. Suncoast sucks.

It's still 3 episodes a disc, but the lower price is nice too.
My Best Buy has maybe half an aisle dedicated to anime, and when I went there on Friday it was still half an aisle. Maybe within the next week they'll clear out the other half of the aisle of it's Sci-Fi stuff and give us more anime.

What I don't get is why I found a Bandai DVD (The name escapes me at the moment) sitting in the warehouse labeled at $42.99. It was just a normal DVD, nothing extra...just 4 episodes. Thats disturbing... (At Best Buy, of course)

Twice now at Best Buy I got things that Suncoast and FYE didn't get shipped in, which tells me that Best Buy is actually paying attention to releases now, besides you can't go wrong when you can say on certian Items. I did notice at the Best buy in my home town the anime section has been expanding

probably mis-labelled, it happens some times, a friend of mine swears she saw the Trigun Boxset labeled as 52.99 once, and I chewed her out for not snatching it upright then and there and raising hell at the register (they HAVE to give it to you for that price)

Yeah, sometimes things get mislabeled. I once picked up an Excel Saga for $12.99. Yeah, they have to respect the attached price, but there's no hell needed (they only work there). All they have you do is sign on a line confirming you paid it at that price, probably just in case the accounting wonders about discrepancies later (and probably so they know where to replace new corrected prices).

true, but I've run into some meanies in my life
they wouldn't even let me exchange my Record of Lodoss war at my own store (I bought it, but wasn't able to get to the malfunctioning 2nd disk till 35 days later) the girl at costomer "service" was all like, well, you work here, you should know the policy (which sucks, BTW!) I went and told the store manager my story, and he was all like, "sure why not" and it worked.
so sometimes it pays to raise a little hell. but only if they give you sh**

Ok My manager just informed me that Best Buys are planning on expanding their Anime sections AGAIN. but not now, soon tho.
He told me that the company has invested quite a bit in the growing genre. it also helps that my manager himself is into and has the employees request more for him to order. I just had him put out an order for the paltry Ruroni kenshin (we only get the last DVDs but people want the earlier ones that are airiong on Toonami)

Animatrix and CB KOHD will sell like hot cakes. Expect them to be in the top 10 DVD sales.

I think the Animatrix will come as extras within the Matrix 2 DVD, not as a separate animation DVD.

No, the individual Animatrix dvd is already available for presale.

my store ordered 500. I'm sure they'll fly out the door.
