So what does everyone think of the upcoming season? Anything you're looking forward to or not looking forward to?

Colin

Let's see... this season I'm looking forward to:

Finding out who the daddy of Rachel's Baby is...
Seeing if that guy from Quantum Leap can pilot a starship...
Seeing how they get Drew Carey out of that Mental Institution...
saying "One of these days I'm gonna try watching a full season of Survivor"...

oh... on KWB... missed that part... um... I'm looking forward to continuing my trend of sleeping in on Saturday mornings as well as not watching TV in the afternoon...

With the Silver Age and DC shows gone....I expect nothing good! Most new shows look unappealing. I'm going to take a page from Colin's book and sleep in or ignore this season...a pity that KWB has lost so many of its hardcore fans...

...none. Most of my viewing will be on DVDs now.

My eyes have long since wandered off to the greener CN pastures.

Although there is that Static/Batman teamup episode coming up next may. Someone give me a good swift kick when that's about to come on...

..um, without cable, probably "Bullwinkle" reruns and the news. Can't even watch "Star Trek:TNG" reruns anymore after this week, apparently---they're moving to cable channel TNN (The "National" Network, formerly known as the Nashville Network). Definitely not anything on KWB (save for an occasional "Jackie Chan" episode); KWB's new stuff this fall look pretty similar/lame (shows with weird-looking creatures flinging themselves at each other in bizarre fight scenes, and, um, hand-me-down CBS Sat. morning junk, from what I can tell...).

All the shows do seem prety substandard. They all seem to be a rip off of each other in some degree. I myself have since moved on to greener pastures and away from KWB. Still, I will watch the occasional X-MEN: EVO ep or JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES. There's not really anything else...

CCS DVDs, raw Pokemon eps off Japanese tv...

I'm giving The Mummy a shot, but that's about it.

...not only is there nothing I'm watching on KWB, I have not watched KWB except for some occaisional H! reruns in about a year! Last year at this time was when all comedy went away there, so I stopped watching. So I join the rest of you in saying their opinions for this year. But at least you have more stuff other than KWB to watch than I do.

...Pokemon, Jackie Chan, and X-Men are at least familiar territory. I'm going to be totally lost with The Mummy having not seen the movie. Yugioh out of curiosity just to see how bad it is. Maybe The Nightmare Room, again, out of morbid curiosity. I may cut my Saturday KWB viewing in half and go with Howard Stern's show, The Ripping Friends, and Evolution (I mean, it's not often one hears the word "mitosis" casually tossed about on Saturday morning--shows someone on the writing staff went to college).

James Harvey

X-Men and Jackie will be familair terriroty. Did anyone realize that this season is the first season that has no ties to the high point of the network. Now that MIB and Batman Beyond has dropped, there are no shows connecting this season to the better previous seasons. This is the first time where this will be 100% "new" KWB shows, and not connected to BATMAN, ANIMANIACS, SUPERMAN, BATMAN BEYOND, MIB or anything.

The Mad Hatter
09-21-2001, 01:28 PM
Man, don't remind me. And even Batman Beyond had tentative ties to the great comedy shows like Pinky and the Brain and Freakazoid... McCann's "Terry's Friend Dates a Robot" episode at least had a little bit of the random, subversive humor of those shows. Now... we don't.

Sigh....

Like I said in another post some time back - all I'm looking foward to on Saturday mornings is sleep and/or MST3K reruns on the Sci-Fi channel.
Might check out a few shows on KWB if I happen to be flipping through the channels, but that's not likely.

Good thing I got some Freakazoid, Animaniacs, and Pinky and the Brain episodes on tape to remember the good ol' days by...

I'm so happy I taped countless shows off KWB before they gave them them th eboot. Granted I am missing a few episodes of MIB and a couple other shows, it's complete enough to satisfy me and remind me of better times.

What season of KWB, since it's beginning, do you think was the ebst? Myself - I think it was the season when Batman & Superman were brought to the network. Everything was balanced so perfectly on that season. There was no Pinky & The Brain & Elmyra in there yet. Pokemon had yet to rear it's ugly head. It was a great line up. 2 hours of comedy & 2 hour sof action on the weekends. 1 hour of comedy and 1 hour of action on the weekdays - it all worke dout GREAT!

Oh, I'm looking forward to most of the stuff on Cartoon Network to be honest (Don't let my name fool you, I'm actually a CN/KWB girl), especaly Reboot! (Thank GOD we're getting something *remotley* new to break up the montony of Dragon Ball/DBZ.

As for KWB, 'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Card Captors episodes (even though the original is better) and possibly new pokemon if they ditch Ash and that tramp Misty soon (give me Brock, take out the rest)... and I'll see Yugi-Oh, even if it does look like total crap) and that's about it.

*BTw, Hiya! I'm new! Are you going to eat me since I'm a newbie?* ;)

Personally, I don't eat newbies. They taste awful. Besides, I haven't been here that long myself. But do you have any of that bubble gum left? :D

In any case, welcome to the boards! Hope you like it here.

Naw, we don't eat or bash newbies here in Toon Zone. We're nice here! Besides, newbies have too much fat, and I gotta watch my diet... ;)

...any season where KWB's shows DIDN'T have Pokemon, but a majority of shows THEY made would be good for me. And as for CN, I look foward to new Dexter's Lab eppys! :)

Welcome GirChan! You'll like it here, we're very nice. I haven't even eaten a newbie in a whole week!! :p

As for Kids WB! shows, I always give all the new shows a try, even if I'm pretty sure they're gonna be terrible. The only show I'm really looking forward to next weekend is the new season of X-Men:Evolution. It looks like it might be pretty good. I'm also looking forward to whenever The Zeta Project comes back on. *grimaces as the many people who hate this show boo and hiss* I'm not sure why, but I always seem to like shows that everyone else hates... :(

As you know I am really looking foward to the new X-Men Evolution Season. I have been a little mad because of the delays. Though it has just made me more anxious to see the season premire. I wish Wb would make up their mind on which episode they are going to show! First Growing Pains was not going to air and now Power Charge ins't going to be shown!!! I want them all to be shown what is the deal??? It is like how they never showed 2 episodes of the Zeta Project. The Three months they showed repeats they could have shown new ones I like Zeta and X-Men WHY CAN'T THEY SHOW THEM ALL!!!!!
Anyway to stay on topic I am looking forward to X-Men. I will also be looking forward to Zeta in January but Yu-Gi-Oh looked like a stupid mix of Pokemon and Cardcapers and I don't think I will like it. I think that the Mummy will destroy the greatness of the movies!

I don't see them ditching Ash any time soon, and not Misty, either. I wonder when the show ends, will they get all serious like most shows when they near an end? Maybe, like Sailor Moon, they will kill off 90% of the main cast!

*Thinks about it*

Nahhhhh.....

Hey, if Pokemon did something like that for a series finale, I'd watch it! ;)

I suspect they'll get serious, though. Perhaps Ash will go off completely on his own in the finaly eppy, and some flash to the future shows him becoming the World's Greatest Pokemon Master, with friends and family seen crying happily at this moment.

While discussing this with my friends (we had nothing to do), I worked out an ending where Misty, realizing that Ash would *never* grow out of his hobby and form a REAL relationship with her, decides to go home and make plans to go back to school (real school, not Pokemon school). Meanwhile, the world of Johto or Kanto or whatever world it is called, is moving away from Pokemon tournament battles and its Poke-centric society--their world is pretty much starting to become more like "our" world. Brock has found a girl his age he can settle down with.

Ash decides to enter one last tournament by himself, and wins it, too! But the win is bittersweet as the stadium is not sold out--in fact, only 10 people were seen in the stands! After all, people aren't interested in Pokemon anymore. So Ash gets a trophy, but there are no cheers for Ash to bask in.

Sad at the irony of his win, Ash decides it's time to let Pikachu go home. The world is changing, and Ash has to adapt to a world with no Pokemon battles, tournaments, or trading. After a tearful good bye with his Pokemon, Ash calls up Misty on the phone, but she's already left home to study abroad.

It's Christmas now. The world is now a "normal" world and Ash is at home, looking at his old trophies and going back down memory lane. All his old friends have their own lives now, but Ash has found it hard to let go of the past. He puts on a parka and goes outside to kick around some snow for while. Then he lies down on the snow and looks up at the sky. The last shot is a bird's eye view of Ash lying in the whiteness of the snow...

Roll credits--Flashbacks to old times.

That's how I see Pokemon ending. Somewhat nostalgic, some cheap schmaltz, and an acknowledgement that the Pokemon craze has ended. Of course, maybe my version is a little bleaker than how the sponsors would like it...

BourgeoisBuffoon
09-23-2001, 06:42 PM
Bleak, yes. But ver powerful and touching. And yes, it'd be a nice nod to the Poke-craze. That's what I like best about it.

Hm...do you think maybe for a fanale they do this?:

Ash goes on to become a Pokemaster-but we see the Gold/Silver Hero watching the epic battle, and decides he wants to become a Pokemaster himself...and goes off to get his own 'Mon and start his own quest...

....stupid, yeah, but it'd acknowledge the Gold/Silver universe a bit more. Plus, it'd let us know the hero from GS exists...

For my last episode---The Pokemon get revenge by capturing the owners and make them fight each other. All of the fighters die in the battle, and the Pokemon are now free and go off to play together. The End.

Ash a Pokemaster, huh? I like it, and it's the most logical ending to the series, really. Mine doesn't fit in with the atmosphere of the show, though it could be done. Though Joe's is the most morally conscious ending so far...:D

Though the Johto league pretty much represents the Gold and Silver games anyway, huh?

Thing is, with the last episode, they can sweep away all the marketing aspects and end it with style, since there's no point in trying to sell new Pokemon anymore when you end the show.

Most likely, though, they'll just keep going until the ratings finally axe it. You know, Pokemon is still going strong in the ratings in Japan...

Really? I thought it was doing awful there. At the defunct Universal Pokemon Network Board someone actually said it was the equivilant of "Blue's Clues" over there...also, I thought if we had the new hero, we could go into the element of "three years later" like the games did.

....acutally, Joe Tully's idea would be an excellent underground black market type eppy. Or at least a dark fanfic idea...

Recent ratings reports for animated shows in Japan shows that Pokemon is still strong.

Here is a report on animated shows compiled for the week of August 13-18...(2001, of course)

Rank | Show name (Broadcasting station/Date/Time) | Rating (%)

01. | Sazae-san (Fuji-TV; Sunday; 18:30~19:00) | 17.3

02. | SFB[2]:Kochikame + One Piece (Fuji-TV; Sunday; 19:00~21:00) |
14.9

03. | Detective Conan (NTV; Monday; 19:30~20:00) | 13.6

04. | Crayon Shin-chan (Asahi-TV; Friday; 19:30~19:54) | 11.5

05. | Doraemon (Asahi-TV; Friday; 19:00~20:00) | 10.7

06. | Chibi Maruko-chan (Fuji-TV; Sunday; 18:00~18:30) | 10.6

07. | Inu Yasha (NTV; Monday; 19:00~19:30) | 10.3

08. | Summer anime encore + Slam Dunk (Asahi-TV; Wed.; 10:30~11:25) |
9.1

09. | Pokémon (TV-Tokyo; Thursday; 19:00~20:00) | 7.6

10. | Digimon Tamer (Fuji-TV; Sunday; 9:00~9:30) | 7.4

See, the immortal "family" show Sazae-San still reigns supreme, and has been going for something like 20 years. But Pokemon is still far and away above your average mecha show, or "Gundam-type" anime. Actually, Gundam shows haven't done great ratings lately, and only the success of the model-kit line is what keeps it afloat. In fact, a lot of animated shows aimed at teens or adults still don't do that well, which is telling. From this list, it's the really kiddie shows and "family" shows that get the biggest ratings. Some things don't change...;)

Heh. Detective Conan was supposed to air on Fox Kids two seasons ago, but the fact that boy detective Conan has to solve pretty gruesome murders at times scared off the network, I guess. It's still a kid's show, though.

I hear Powerpuff Girls is also doing well, somewhere in the top 50...

Corrections and observations:

Sazae-San has been going since 1969--that's like 30 years!!!

Doraemon has been going since the late 1970s, IIRC.

Some shows in Japan can go on forever and forever...there's a high nostalgia factor at work in many Japanese adults, so they end up watching (or pushing their kids to watch) favourite shows such as Sazae-San or Doraemon.

Some shows hit the top 10 for only a while, then drop off and get cut off. Sailor Moon, for instance, hovered around the 11% mark at its peak, but in the last season, dipped to 5%, only to shoot up to around 9% (?) again in the bloodbath of a finale (they were shocked to see how brutal the series could get!) that was the main focus for the last 10 or so episodes. But by then, the franchise had already decided to pack it in.

Seeing as Pokemon is around 7-8% now, I see about maybe 2 seasons before they reconsider its future. Being in the top 10 is not an easy thing to do, but bottom top 10 material means that it is just beginning to see an end. It's still strong, considering the 30 or so animated shows that air in Japan, and I don't see it ending any time soon, but I don't think we have a Sazae San here with Pokemon.

Wow! That is SUCH a good ending!

I really hope that's the ending, I doubt it, but it's sooooooooo good. ^_^ IMO, that ending sort of mimics the Pokemon craze here in America... actually, it mirrors it.

It make's me wonder what would of happened to TR.

I suspect this:

Ash defeats Team Rocket, Giovanni is jailed, etc. J, J and Meowth are some of the last protectors of TR, but then realize evil isn't for them in the final battle. They then travel for maybe one eppy for Ash, and contemplate what they will do. Well, they stop by a city and decide to live there, they thank Ash for all the adventures and promise to keep in touch...they themselves have a family.

Howzat? :)

I think there will be some sort of final battle between the Twerps and the Rocket organization, with JJM in the middle, at first, then on the heroes' side... "Giovanni" still has the BC team, the hot blonde from the Mewtwo special, and the special op guy from movie #4... Mondo, too, but I'm not sure if he even counts- only showing for a CD drama as essentially a craft services person for JJM... But I'd like to see more of the Pokemon Collector, too.

Anyway, my ending?

"Ash" becomes a Pokemon master, but soon finds himself lying low in "Mt. Silver" much like in the G/S/C games.... From time to time, challengers make their way to him- ultimately causing demand for a Pokemon Center in the area, which is staffed by "Jessie"and her pokemon.... :)

"Misty" makes her way through Pokemedical school and becomes a doctor. Eventually, she and "Brock" start up a Pokemon breeding/medical facility located in between their respective hometowns.

"Tracey" starts up his own lab, with "James" as his partner and "Meowth" as his assistant.

"Gary" takes over the "Viridian" gym following the end of the Rocket organization.
