Any anime fan who is commited to be somewhat of an otaku or even just a casual fan should see Akira and Metropilis for their ground-breaking animation and plot and in my opinion the best Anime movies of all time ! As for TV should see Lupin and Inuyasha (though judging from your avatar you're already a fan brotha ;) and you should see Bebop for well JUST SEE IT AND BE BLOWN AWAY !

For a Berserk / Evangelion fan, I recommend:
Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (movie 1) and "End of Evangelion" (movie 2)
I honestly haven't seen either of these, but if you like Evangelion, I can't imagine you'd go wrong picking these up.

Vampire Hunter and Vampire Hunter: D
These movies' vampire action will appeal to fans of the darker side of Berserk.

Now and Then, Here and There (13 episode series across 3 volumes)
This series about a boy who is transported to a war-torn world where children are forced to fight for a maniac leader who's in search of a magical pendant is likely to appeal to fans of the more intelligent side of Evangelion.

Hmm... I know there's more, I just can't think of it...

As always, here are the titles I recommend to anybody who's into anime:
Rurouni Kenshin (Currently airing on Cartoon Network weekdays at 6:30pm)
Trigun (Currently airing on Cartoon Network Monday-Thursday at midnight)
Record of Lodoss War (13 episode series)
Macross Plus (movie)
Ghost in the Shell (movie)
Metropolis (movie)
Escaflowne: The Movie
Ranma 1/2
Vision of Escaflowne (26 episode series) <-- My personal favorite
Princess Mononoke (movie)
Grave of the Fireflies (movie)

Alot of people like Cowboy Bebop and Akira as starter animes, as well. I really don't see the greatness of either. Cowboy Bebop is fairly good... just not even one-tenth as good as many people say it is...
And Akira is great for a mindless action film... but it's nothing more...

Also, try anything airing on Cartoon Network, like Inuyasha or Yu Yu Hakusho. I personally really like most of the stuff on Cartoon Network, just bear in mind that they certainly don't represent the best anime out there or anything...

I'll post again when I think of more that fit your Berserk / Eva tastes...

Some interesting suggestions for anime watching (outside a lot of what is being said right now):

-Serial Experiment Lain: 13 episodes pretty much talking about the state of technology and the internet as well as the state of man in the technological age. That as the creator, Chikai Konaka, is a huge Eva fan. It may or may not work for you, but I guess it depends...

-Blue Seed: I am actually watching this right now, and it is a great action/supernatural series that you can probably pick up cheap at the right places! It's got some great fights and a big environmental message, not to mention fanservice! (sort of like EVA in those way)

-FLCL: Hoping to pick this up soon, but from what I hear it is a great series that is insane, but also Gainax!

-RahXephon: Another show that I want to get into...it has some Eva influences, but I hear it goes in a completely different direction.

As for TV stuff, try to watch stuff such as Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, maybe Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho, and some other stuff out there.

Well, I would have to know, do you want to buy everything or are fan subbs of new shows not currently available in the USA ok for you?

Also, what format can you buy and what's your budget?

My personal favorite that I guide to everyone is Revolutionary Girl Utena, which I call by it's japanese title on the boards, cause I think it sounds nicer. :) Anywho, it's a shoujo drama with some pretty whacked out stuff in it. I find that people either love it or they don't. I haven't met a person who is in the middle, but maybe I just don't know enough anime fans. Anyway, that's my main choice.

But here are others I would also reccomend to anyone:

Fatal Fury The Motion Picture
Akira
8 Man After
Project A-ko
Tenchi Muyo!
Hyper Police
Flame of Recca

Those are a few. I mean, I could write down everything I've seen, but that's just gonna be a long list, and I didn't even like them all. :D But Utena is my all time favorite. It's a classic that does not get enough credit. Great stuff to mess up your mind. :D:D:D

Uh...how about not, since it's just THAT bad?

(I'm not getting into a debate about this. It just is.)

*stands in complete agreement with Sproket, dodges flames*

Well, if you have acess to a decent internet connection, I would suggest a couple of fan subs.

For something Eva-like, look for Saikano aka My Girlfriend the Ultimate Weapon.

Comedy, .Hack//DUSK: Legend of Twilight Bracelet, or The Jungle was fine untill Guu came

Spiral is a good mystery seires if you go for that kind of thing, and Naruto is a great DBZ-eque show, only more entertaining.

Any of that strike your fancy?

I recommend..
Now and Then, Here and There
Trigun
Hellsing
Cowboy Bebop
The Venus Wars
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Gundam 8th MS Team
Anything Lupin
Rahxephon
The Vision Of Escaflowne
Laputa: Castle In The Sky
After War Gundam X

I recommend that you avoid...
Argentosoma
Final Fantasy Legend of the Crystals
Casshan: Robot Hunter
G Gundam (unless you want a really good "so bad that its good" show)
Dragonball GT

I guess I should step in....

G Gundam isn't THAT bad. If you are looking for something along the line of the "Super Robot" genre put into a Gundam series, or don't mind a series that is insanely cheesy on purpose, G Gundam may be right up your alley. However, it isn't a serious Gundam show like some of the others.....and yet it is. Personally, I like G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam and am anticipating Zeta Gundam's release....so I guess that makes me weird.

BTW: I know if Beatdigga was here, he would recommend V Gundam, since he has before....

I understand why some people like and downright love G Gundam. If your into something purposely cheezy and over the top, G Gundam is for you, but I personally cant find myself sitting through one episode, its way too much cheese for me.

(And Sprocket, Jaguar is most likely kidding. See his smiley?)

The sad thing about that was that I wasn't kidding. And Weiss Kreuz isn't as horrible as you say (Gluhen on the other hand...) Maybe you just can't handle assassins/florists. That's how you feel. But either way I'm okay.

I forgot to recommend The Big O...

How could you forget to recommend The Big O??? :p

The Big O (mech drama with a kinda film noir feel) and Those Who Hunt Elves (insanely silly off-planet fantasy) are the two series I recommend the most often.

But if you're an Eva fan, then I'm putting my vote in for RahXephon.

Edit: Hey I just noticed that this is my 1,000th post. Whoo-hoo!!!! ::does a random, happy jig in front of her computer::

I recommend the following:

Cowboy Bebop (LOTS of anime fans like this and there's a reason.)
Trigun (Haven't seen it all been picking it up one DVD at a time but can already tell you its a amazing anime and you should check it out, the first few episodes are ok but after that it gets better.)
Hellsing (Haven't seen all of this either, I take my time with animes. This anime is more darker then the rest with cussing, killing, blood and some sex you might like this, might not)
Outlaw Star (Not the best anime in the world but still a entertaining anime with some great characters and some really great episodes.)

I would have to say check them out in the order I typed them. All 4 animes have one thing in common, they all have a main character gunman. Spike, Vash, Alucard and Gene. Hope you find some anime to enjoy.

I totally forgot about Trigun and G Gundam ! As for Tv Shows they are many old and good shows and new and cool shows take for example Rouroni Kenshin and then from the 80's or 70's or whatever Dirty Pair . If you guys remember I blasted dirty pair in one post , but its become sort of a nice habit to see it and laugh at the costumes and solid plot on showtime extreme . We should start a review thread for any anime on the action channel as well as dirty pair .

if yer in a whacky mood go for Excel Saga, you'll piss your pants at how funny and off the wall it is

most of what was mentioned already I include (excep for Weiss Kreuss, BLEH!) I've ony seen the first DVD but GreatTeacherOnizuka (GTO) was pretty good too

if you can get your hands on it: Robot Carnival and Otaku no Video are classics as well
