I was pleasantly susprised with "A Man Apart". The movie showed an excellent acting performance from Vin Diesel. Possibly his best performance ever. The film didn't really have any plot twists but it did keep you wondering who "Diablo" was. Larenz Tate also gave a good performance as Vin's best friend in the movie. I also enjoyed Timothy Olyphant's character.

With all of the bad movies that have been released lately it's nice to see a good one hit theaters.

Overall I give the movie ***1/2

My only question is, is Marvel going to sue? Because the plot is stolen from "The Punisher".

i am glad i joined penguin and turkish on this outing to see "a man apart". going into it i was like "man, another vin diesle movie...blargh" but this was actually surprisingly good. it went really in depth into the whole columbian drug cartel and it's search for power. i kind of had a guess at who diablo was but i was surprised when he wasn't it. to finish, i'm going to say just one thing "mud flaps" :)

I'm a tad late compared to turkish and KoD, but I would have to say I really enjoyed this movie (it appears we all gave it the same rating too). "Man" became the alternate when we found out our theater was not going to be getting Phone Booth (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?threadid=72584) last weekend, but this one also looked cool and I was glad I went.

It was tough watching Sean interact with Stacy in the earlier part of the movie knowing she would be killed partway through it in order to set the second part of the story in motion. It was obvious the two really cared about each other I get sappy over movie and TV characters like that. :o It got more sad when Sean talked about how he first met her later in the movie. :(

Sean really lost it after that and it was interesting watching his downward spiral until he beat that one bartender guy senseless when he talked about killing his wife. You could tell it was really hard for the DEA guy to "bench" him, but it had to be done.

I was slightly surprised Hicks eventually agreed to help Sean. He seemed so adamant about staying out of it before. I did like seeing the guys get helped by Big Sexy though. The things he wanted to "test out" made for some great "messin' stuff up" you need in a movie like this. I found it funny he and his guys were always playing Madden. We have a franchise going right now so it was kind of cool to see.

For most of the movie I wasn't thinking Memo would be "El Diablo" I was so sure it was going to be someone else that the thought didn't even occur to me until he was being transfered and the grin spread across his bearded face.

The ending was great how it could have gone so many different ways. I didn't know what to expect until Sean said "If I wanted to kill you, you'd already be dead." The cuffs thrown down and the strike team making their move was just a great way to "catch the bad guy" and showed Sean had overcome his need for revenge.

This has to be one of, if not the best Vin Diesel vehicle out there in the fact that it had an actual, real plot, motivation and was definately had more to it than fast cars and lots of explosions. :)

If you want to know absolutely nothing about the upcoming Punisher movie (backstory from comics) you may not want to read on:
My only question is, is Marvel going to sue? Because the plot is stolen from "The Punisher".Have you even seen this movie? I hope you aren't the person who randomly voted '1/2' because that is just disrespectful.

The only common thread Sean and Frank have is a loved one was killed by "the bad guys." Frank had kids, but Stacy wasn’t even pregnant—that alone makes the situation different. Sean also does not become a vigilante sporting a costume who takes on all criminals. Sean Vetter does not engage in a one-man war on crime—he only wants to track down the people responsible for his wife's death, nothing more.

Make sure you know what you are talking about before making an accusation like that. "A Man Apart" is not the first movie where the hero seeks revenge for the murder of his loved ones and it certainly won't be the last.
