Yeah, so I just got back from watching the movie "The Core" (which was excellent I might add) and there was a *gasp* Sailor Moon reference. In the begining of the movie, the main scientist character says for his student to do a search for weird natural pheonomenon around the world and the student replies that he might not be able to as that would be a wide search. The scientist then says that the student does searches for Sailor Moon stuff, so why would this be so hard? (It was something like that, don't quote me though.) Anyway, with me and my sister being such big moonies, my mom knew what SM was. She looked at me and whispered that SM was the last thing she thought she'd hear referenced in this movie!
The funny thing was I heard this couple behind us (40-ish?) say, "Sailor Moon, what the f*** is that? I about died laughing.

I also just back from seeing it tonight, overall I thought it was an okay movie. I laugh along with other people when this anime reference to SM came out. Some people behind us had no idea what Sailor Moon was about.

Yes, very worth it. If you liked Armagedon, you'd like this.

I didn't like armageddon

B movies with high budgets shouldn't take themselves so seriously

cool having anime refed tho

It didn't take itself seriously.

"You want me to save the world? Give me some Sponge Bob tapes and a supply of Hot Pockets."

The whole movie knew it was cheesy, and it reveled in it.

for one thing it was xena tapes that the guy wanted *just so no one is confuse by that sponge bob reference*

The movie was bad I heard haven't seen it myself but I really don't plan to now. Any movie that references sailor moon has to be evil. *expecting flames for that one but I really don't care :shake: *

It's Star Trek tapes. Just watched the trailer to make sure. I know, I'm a loser.

I know this is a odd thing to quibble over, but the hacker did ask for Xena tapes. I remember that because I thought "Who watches that show anymore." The trailer must be wrong. I asked my mom and she even said he asked for Xena.

Ha Twage shows what you know *if memory serves me your a mod which means I may be banned :shake: hmmmm*. No one should question me on this. I got movie freaks for friends. When I know something I know something *usually it the stuff that gets through when they talk to me constantly. Like my otaku friends (who say I'm inferior when it comes to anime. Damn them :moon2: )*. The guy said Xena and I'm sticking to it. They changed it to be punks that all.

I don't mind. When I'm wrong I'm wrong.

:D Indeed. The trailer folk probably didn't know what Xena was. Makes me glad they didn't decide to include the scene with the Sailor Moon reference in the trailer...

I made this thread be on topic again. Crazy!

it's neat to see anime references in movies
i've also heard of DBZ stuff popping up sometime in other shows
like the clam league 9000 in jonny bravo
"buy our toys! buy our toys" said by a goku-ike ash-like character

i realy hated armageddon so i know i won't like this
"hey lets charge through an asteroid field at full speed"
that was teh part i thought was most funny...
of course the ship is gonna crash after something that stupid

from my standpoint on "the core"
worst idea ever...
if we could make a weapon why in the heck would we put it
2000 miles underground?? and well seeing how the center of the
earth is solid iron.... i doubt we could put it there to begin with
and if we had the technology to do that...
then warp travel, teleportation and moon bases should be no problem

i don't think the creators know exaclty how hard it is to go
through that kind of pressure and heat

this is gonna be spoofed by commedians for a while...it's just like that
making earthquakes? to attack people??
wouldn't it be more accurate and effective
to build a massive space battery of nuclear powered lazers?
which we could target anything down to a pin head and melt it?
that's a little more practical i think and possible

i'll probably end up seeing it eventualy on video
but it won't be for thrills I'll be laughing all night

don't worry i'll be looking for the anime reference

I know I started this thread and it was origionally about the SM reference and all... and Twage got it back on topic (sort of) in mentioning the reference thing again, but...

If your gonna diss it, at least get the facts straight. They didn't put a weapon in the ground in the first place. The whole thing got started because someone on the surface used sound waves to try to use earthquakes, ect. as weapons against other countries. Only after that did they build the vessel to tunnel into the center of the Earth (which has a liquid iron ring in the movie) to use explosives to repair the situation. I KNOW that going into the Earth like that is impossible, but it's FICTION, not reality. Not like a couple of key animes out there don't deal with ideas, theories, beings, extra-ordinary powers, ect. that never could happen or exist in real life. It's ok to tweek the facts a little to get a good story. I mean I think that is what makes a good story, reguardless of the genre it's in. I like stories the most when the facts are stretched beyond what is really plausible. It makes it more interesting. Anyway, I enjoyed it, but hey it's not for everyone.

Note from Mynd Hed: This post has been edited to fix the spoiler tags.

Slightly on-topic (cartoon refs in Movies)

what was UP with the PPG in Blade 2!? it seemed like no more than 15 minutes would go by without a shot of the SAME ep of PPG airing on some screen somewhere in the background or foreground?

I wasn't aware of this and I saw the movie. Interesting. Most mean that the director/producer/star/stage hand must like PPG. Wow if I'd know that I probably wouldn't have seen the movie (mixing action movie with kid cartoons. Not good)
