Well, she's back!

I watched the full hour of her opening night in Las Vegas special yesterday. I must admit, as an old Celine-fan, I was starting to get pretty pumped about seeing her new show....and then Justin Timberlake came out. Yup, he was MC-ing the broadcast, and took us on a semi-behind-the-scenes tour of the production. It was only once the show actually started that I realized how silly I had been...

I hate watching Celine perform. There's a very pretentious "Look! You're All Having Fun Aren't You!" expression on her face during the up-beat songs, which often shifts into a "hold my hand - I'm your friend" sorta deal during her ballads, or speeches. She has one of the best voices in the world...I just wish she'd figure out a better way of performing live.

Speaking of which, now she has her own private "Cirque de Soleil" -esque troop behind her. I kinda liked it, and kinda didn't at the same time. The giant video screen behind her added some nice effects (the Times Square and full moon effects were nicely done), but her dancers didn't really bring much to it I found.

Thoughts? Did anyone else catch it?
