If I get any less than 8 to 9 hours of sleep I'm a zombie for the rest of the day. What about the rest of you?

I can get by on 4, believe it or not. On weekends I have to wake up at 5:30 to get to work on time, and more often than not I'm either out, online, or on the phone until 1:30am the night before. I can manage, but it's not fun.
I can get by with six and not needing a mid-day nap, and 7-8 is usually pretty good for the whole day.

I need more than my typical 4 or 5 hours every couple days, I know that.

Major insomniac here....but not by choice....all these AP classes and Junior year are harsh. I got roughly 3 hours of sleep last night, cought a 1 hour nap this past after noon and then got about 3 more hours just now.
I usually manage fine on six hours, five or even four are fine if its just over a period of few days. Seven or eight are nice now & then but more than nine and I feel like I've been drugged, end up feeling dazed at the wheel of the car (definitely not good) and by 2pm I can't speak for yawning.
Why does more sleep only make you sleepier not more refreshed? Some cruel metabolic trick perhaps?

10 or more would be best for me since I can not stay up anylonger or my sleeping pattern goes to heck.

I do not know how much sleep I need. If I get 6 hours, I'm tired. 8 hours and I'm tired. 10 hours and I'm tired. It seems to make no difference, so supposedly, I could knock off some time.

{raises hand} Insomniac. Like ZorBrak, it's not by choice, but my reason's different. I can go into bed at 9:30 and still be awake by 2 AM. The reason that happens is because it takes me a long time to get my brain settled down enough to go to sleep. You wouldn't BELIEVE what goes through this thing... (**whacks head**} The terrible thing is, I can't sleep in on weekends. I get up early on Saturdays 'cause our synagogue starts at 9. And I have this weird thingie on Sundays......every Sunday morning, I get up at 5:48. Every Sunday. It's really strange. There were some shows that I'd have to get up at that time to watch, but this "waking early" habit began *before* I started watching them.
Even with the little sleep, though, I manage to function fairly well. I'm usually very tired in the morning, but it wears off during the course of the day. I really hope this sleep pattern isn't permanent; I get reeeeeaaally bored all those Sunday mornings...... ;)

Heheh, that's the same amount of sleep I get...
So, what does one vote for on 6 1/2 hours? ;) narf.

I can get by with about 6 hours of sleep, but I feel that I'm more rested if I get at least 8. Just a few years ago, I was going to school full time and I could go to sleep at any time and still manage to get up at 6am. Now, I'm so out of shape, sometimes I have to get those 8 hours (sometimes more) or I'm just no good for anything.

I need at least 8 hours of sleep, otherwise I get cranky. Also, if I get less than that I have this weird tendacy to get sick, loosing my lunch kinda sick. So I make sure to get my beauty sleep every night! In bed at 12am and up at 8am everyday. Wee!

yeah -- it depends on how much sleep i get. you see, i'm a college student and sometimes i stay up late to study or hang out. i guess, sometimes i do get 8 hours. but thats on good days.
9 hours. Otherwise I feel groggy all day.

Six hours is usually pretty good for me. I might end up feeling a little tired, but it's not too bad. I'm pretty alert.
Right now, though, I'm running on the four hours of sleep I got last night. I'm doing all right, but my eyes are feeling a little droopy, and I'm yawning a fair bit too. In cases like this, I usually try to get about 8 hours' sleep the next night. I doubt I will tonight, though. I have a soccer tourney which'll probably last well past midnight. Oh, well, I'll make up for it Thursday night, hopefully.

I NEED around 7-9 (It's recommend people get this amount on a daily basis) but lately been getting around 6 and it's made me weak and somewhat mentally sluggish and I dont like it but stuff keeps happening.

At least 8 to feel right.
But I love sleeping. I looooove it. I would sleep all day sometimes if I could. But, I keep a dream journal too, so I might just be looking for things to write down.... :D:D:D
Seriously though, I need a good amount of sleep. I can last on five, but it messes me up in a lot of ways, so I try to keep it 7+ for my own health and sanity. :)

I can get by OK on 4-6 hours for a couple of days if necessary, but after that I need to play catchup. Usually that's on the weekend.

I know I need about 7 regularly in order to function and be of any use. Does it happen?? Not likely... Sometimes I wont get any sleep at all because my brain seems to be in overdrive by the time I go to bed. then theres the weekend where I am out until, sometimes, 4 in the morning. I could get by with 4 but I have to sleep in the next day or take a nap :p

About 7-8 on average. Even if I get 6, somehow I end up getting 7 because I fall asleep again, lol. Getting 5 or 6 isn't bad if I do it only once in a while, though for some people that's always enough sleep. Got into a funk of having like 9 hours sleep, didn't like that. For the average person, both too little AND too much sleep can be bad.
