Well, for the first time in over two years, I saw the new Woody show again! The episode was surprisingly good, and I'm happy that I taped it. Here's my review for the cartunes on the show:

Pecking Order (Woody Woodpecker)

Okay this wasn't exactly the best of the show, but it had it's moments. Woody is sick of putting up with Splinter and Knothead's nonsense, so he sends them to military school. Later, Woody watches on TV that kids will become aggressive when they come home. Woody decides to get into the school to get them back. However, the instructor has informed the kids to keep ANYONE off the premises so...

Chilly on Ice (Chilly Willy)

A very funny cartune, and had some great gags and lines in it. Chilly is hungry, and watches on TV that an snow Olympics-type game is going on, with free tickets. However Chilly plans to run in without a ticket, and that's a no-no with guard Smedley. Chilly ends up winning all of three awards, but he gets kicked out by Smedley before getting the "Champion's Dinner". Depressed, Chilly finds out that the medals he received were made of chocolate! Best bit:

Chilly cuts a circle where Smedly is standing on ice, but Smedley steps out of the circle and says: "No penguin can outsmart a minimum wage police guard!" (the rest of the ice cracks making him fall) "Except this one..."

Just Say Uncle (Woody Woodpecker)

A very funny cartune, obviously inspired by the classic 40's Woody/Wally team-ups. Woody's Knothead and Splinter and Wally's nephew, Willie, all want the same action figure toy. However, only ONE of toys remains. May the best uncle win! Best bit:

Woody (in TV screen): "For just ONE measly little action figure, you can own a country of the world! Spain, France, Italy..."

Wally: "Bah!" (walks away)

Woody: "...and Sweeden!"

(Wally immediatly runs back) Wally: "Oh goodie, goodie!"

A very nice show, the opening was cool too, and very colorful.:p

Thanks for the review, Thad. I missed today's episode, but none of the episodes I saw before had Knothead and Splinter in them. I will be losing FOX programming in a couple weeks when the local FOX station here switches to the WB in October.

Does Chilly Willy talk in the new cartoons? I know he talked occasionally in the old theatricals, but he was mostly silent, like the Pink Panther.

Did Woody mention the Highland Games? In the few episodes of the new series I saw, Woody seemed to have an obsession with them, bringing them up even when not part of the plot (i.e. trying to cheat Wally or Buzz out of money in order to attend the games).

BTW, do you think the folks at Pixar are fans of Walter Lantz cartunes? After all, the stars of TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2 are named Woody and Buzz.

...and the name of the toys' owner was Andy. :)

That already happened to me here in Cleveland...and it's not a pretty site!
There's a ton of Anime' programs on KidsWB.

BTW, I can't believe the new Lantz cartoons don't feature
Andy Panda or Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. I don't think
I ever saw the three episodes Thad was talking about -
they could be NEW ones. And yes Woody did go
overboard with the Highland Games!;)

That's very interesting, maybe Pixar does like the Lantz cartunes. Any way, Chilly Willy did NOT talk in this cartune, so it was sort of my favorite of the show. Billy West does a good job immitating Daws Butler's Huckleberry-like voice for Smedley. BTW, the show was on at 2PM today (1PM Central), so I expect to see it the same time tomorrow, but I'll set my timer for an hour in case FOX KIDS changes the schedule...

To let you know these WERE BRAND NEW episodes. I have an episode guide of the first nine episodes, which I'll dig up out of my files in a bit... And no, the Highland Games were NOT in this episode.

Actually, virtually all Fox affiliates air "Woody Woodpecker" at 2PM, since that is the average time most cartoons on local TV stations would usually start. WFLD Chicago is one of 'em.

Yes, the FOX affiliate here in Chi-town (WFLD-32) just recently moved its kids block of programs up to 2pm.

I remember the days before WFLD became a FOX affiliate. They used to show Tom & Jerry, Popeye, Mighty Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Casper, Baby Huey, Herman & Katnip, and a lot of other classic cartoons. I wish they still did...

I live in the Chicago area too,and don't have cable, and see very few of the classics, I can watch on Sat for Bugs and Tweety, but aside from that, the cartoon network, must be the place to go,,,,,,Another reason to get cable...Best wishes to all
