View Full Version : Some Quick Delaney Poll Notes

Just wanted to remind everyone of a few items....
First, Suggestions... Suggestions are always welcome! Be sure to submit all your requests to delaney_requests@toonzone.net (http://forums.toonzone.net/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=7058). If it's not sent to that address, or you send it via PM, there's no guarentee that I'll see or remember the suggestion come time to make up the current polls. The above address is routed directly to a special folder in my mailbox that keeps it all seperate from the endless spam I get. Also, when you suggest something... do not suggest a character who is currently in the poll that is happening. If the character is popular enough, it will be noted. But keep in mind, we don't want to see the same characters on the poll week after week, so anyone appearing on like week 60 most likely won't appear again until around week 65... if not longer.
Next order of business... Campaigning is nice and all... but after looking at this past week's poll. Things got a little out of hand. The Master Shake and the Hiei camps both went all out on their campaigning, and at one point even started to take the fun out of the poll. I remember reading in someone posting something along the lines of "Let's hear from some people who want to say something for the other characters" (not exact, but hey, it's the weekend... it's late... who wants perfection ;)). Campaigning is encouraged, but please, don't go over the top when campaigning in the polls. Stop telling people what they like, what they don't like. Stop telling them that voting against one character means they like Brussel Sprouts, etc. This poll is not about finding new and creative (and sometimes annoying) ways to get your favorite character to win... it's about the final sketch. Yes, it's fun to watch the road to the final sketch, but not when it's littered with such garbage like "If you don't vote for Baby Tweety in this weeks poll, you'll be saying that you think all babies are ugly! You don't think all babies are ugly, do you?" That's just plain rude and insulting. And it will stop. Now.
And finally... this week, we bring back your favorites in the Runner's Up Poll... Just remember the rules that are in place... and with the new forum upgrades, it's easier for us to enforce Poll Bannings while allowing you to maintain access to this forum (note: in the past, in the rare instances it did occur, we'd have to block the entire forum, which can hurt the forum in the long run). I'm looking at the lineup for the poll, and I can tell already that there will be some heated controversies on the poll. Just a reminder to keep everything civilized and to fight nicely ;)
We now return you to your regularly scheduled hootenanny

Gogeta! I'm ashamed of you!

Oh, And Vote Shak- oh, sorry. bad habit.

VOTE DOD....oh. Wrong thread.
Seriously, I agree with Colin. Campaigning is fun, but can we keep it halfway intellegent? I mean, nothing wrong with little slogans, but there have got to be less geeky ways of campaigning than...brussels sprouts?
So, yeah, let's come up with something more clever next time.
(For the record, I love brussels sprouts. Not as much as pie or creampuffs, but, you know.)

I am sorry if I offended anyone by telling them that Dick Cheney and/or Bob Dole would come after them if they didn't vote Hiei. I was just trying to be the funny, idioitc person I am by doing something weird but I do know I scared several people with the Dole one.
Again, sorry.

I don't mean this to sound snide, it's an honest question. With the new upgrade, is there any way we can hide results from those who haven't voted yet, and if so would you be willing to give it a trial?

I like that idea. I don't think we should be able to see the numbers until we actually vote. I've read posts where posters say that they choose based on the numbers. I like Mattashell's idea. So can it be done? Does any moderator know?
I am looking forward this week's poll. I hope there's a Spider-Man character in there somewhere!

I would love it if the results were not shown to those who have not voted. I don't look at the results before I vote, I vote for who I like best. Remember people, when you vote for the candidate whos wining, you are knocking your real choice out of wining. If people had voted for who they liked on the last poll, mabey Black cat, Sonic the hedgehog, or docter strach & sniff would have won.
Also, my apologies for joining on the food campaining (missspelling intended) bandwagon.

Lack of poll viewing before voting would be good for the Delaney poll, but nowhere else.

Unfortunately, this option is not available. Believe me, if it were, it would be implemented faster than you could say "Blabberin' Blatherscythe"
I've never even payed attention to the "campaigning" that goes on. Maybe it's just me but seeing VOTE HIEI about 45 different times in font 50 doesn't make me want to vote for Hiei, it just annoys the hell out of me.

I don't pay attenion to the campaining either. I would like the delaney poll alot more if people were allowed to campain(misspeling intended) one time per day, because it is annoying seeing vote *so & so* Ten times on the same page and haveing my inbox on my e-mail filled up with ten messages saying there was a reply to the poll.

Colin, I was wondering how you set the polls up. Do you choose the canidates by the most requests you get or does one lone request make the poll? I would imagine you would get lots of requests for a popular character then a cult character.

The polls are mostly done by requests. Not by number of requests a character recieved, but just by the fact it was requested. There are a couple characters that do recieve loads of requests, but there's also the random characters that don't.
and when making the weekly poll, I go through the requests and *try* to keep some kind of balance in the variety, so as not to load it up with on particular genre. Which is why you'll most likely not see an "All DC character poll" or an "All Adult Swim Poll" those polls are too limiting in scope, and wouldn't result in good voter turnout... variety helps bring more people to the poll (though, it does sometimes backfire, but that's just a chance you gotta take)
Colin, I tried to send you an e-mail to request a character and got this message, "Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails through this board. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help."
No one else has mentioned having trouble sending e-mails through that account, so I'm not sure if it's just me that it isn't working for...

Thanks for the info. Now I may suggest a real odd ball, He may not win, but it will be cool to see him on the polls.

you need to send it to the specific delaney requests address, not colin's regular one.
delaney_requests@toonzone.net should work...if it doesn't, then I don't know.
as for the campaigning thing, its just in fun. i doubt it really affects anyone's voting that much, at least the campaign within the Delaney thread (though it does help a lot to mention a character on the appropiate board), but at the same time its fun to root on your favorite character.

I'll fix that in a bit... in the meantime, you guys CAN Cut & Paste the address... the link is just a "lazy link" for people who don't wanna C&P the address into their mail program ;)
