Not only does it's kept "What's Opera Doc?" out of the 1957 Oscar race (This and "Tobasco Road", the next two Looney Tunes releases, were both nonimated, instead) it's also the Personal Favorite of Mel Blanc himself. And, it's also the favorite Oscar-Winning Looney Tune of many of the broad members.
Hit or miss?

Definately a hit. Why else would it have won an Oscar? :)

I consider this a "hit." It is an example of a funny cartoon coming out of a so-so concept.

Definitely a HIT!
I consider this to be one of the best Sylvester & Tweety cartoons.

A definate hit! A true Looney Tunes classic! It's still funny to me after all these years. One of Freleng's finer moments.

I just never liked this cartoon. Maybe because I don't like AA allusion. Maybe because all through the cartoon the bird is not causing any of the problems that it did in the past, it could easily be eaten. And it's not as funny as Cheese Chasers which has a similar theme.

When Friz said the fun parts of his Tweety cartoons weren't what Tweety did, they were what Sylvester did, he was definitely talking about this cartoon (and it's psychological follow-up, "The Last Hungry Cat"). It's also improved take on the gag of Sylvester not wanting to catch Tweety that Freleng and Foster first tried out in "Tweet and Sour."
Definitely a hit (and as I've said before, 1957 was a great year for Warner Bros. cartoons).
