I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that "Anime" is for children. However, given the results of the poll so far, it seems that statement may just be true...or at least close to it.

I'm actually surprised that many of you are as young as you are. And considering that Anime is overwhelmingly a DVD-based medium, I would think most fans would be older as they would be the ones who could afford the DVD's more easily. Then again, it may just be that the majority of ToonZone's forum users are also in that age-range.

Oh well, I'm 24 in case you're wondering.

No, I'm not that old at all (late GenXer), but damn a lot of yaz are new....
Well, usually anime is a college hobby (where it's easier to trade/borrow when resources were scarce), but I guess now that it's readily available on stores, the growth of the Net, and the TV explosion started by Pokemon (then kids now grown up), it's good to see the initiation age getting younger and hopefully with as varied tastes. Solidify anime as a genuine medium.

In terms of most forms of entertainment, I've realized simply by comparing my interests with that of most adults that are similar to me in taste, that there really isn't much of a difference between adults and teens. It seems that one reaches a point where their basic likes and dislikes are established and don't change much after time - I've liked anime since I was about 14 and I'm sure I'll continue to like anime when I'm older. Thus, I think it's fair to say that, in terms of entertainment only, of course, that a 15 year old's interests are no different from that of an 18 year old's or 25 year old's... obviously, with time, one's interests are refined or tweaked a bit... but the core remains the same. If someone is a comic book geek at age 16, they likely will be for many, many years to come.

My point, more or less, is that, for this poll only, a 15 year old and up audience should basically be considered an adult simply because of those facts. I always interpret the statement "anime is for kids" as meaning the much younger, below 14 group.

Of course, I'm not an adult, so I can't verify the exact tastes most adults have, but I'm simply basing this upon the tastes I've observed most other anime loving adults have.
