I noticed on Brian's Early Years page that he noted down a few Disney swipes. However, I found very interesting swipes from the Ub Iwerks and Walter Lantz studios:

Above is a picture of the bare chicken Flip the Frog uses to get the flavor in a bowl of soup in "The Soup Song" (1931). After the chicken is dipped into the bowl of soup he scrubs his behind. Another bare chicken, who was used to get the soup it's flavor, dries itself the same way in "Goopy Geer" (1932).

In "The Mechanical Man" (1932) Oswald the Rabbit tells a mouse to "call the cops." When the mouse dials the phone number, he rides around the dialer. This is alike to the mouse in "Bosko's Store" (1932), who does the same thing when dialing the phone number for Bosko's Store.

Hi Pietro, I had to edit your post. You linked to the images correctly, but GeoCities doesn't allow images to load to pages outside of their server. So, I uploaded your 2 images onto my Toon Zone account (and edited your post to reflect this change). Hope you don't mind. Very interesting information.

This reminded me of another thing I've noticed lately on GeoCities, altho so far
it only happens to Netscape users like me.

If the page being viewed uses Javascript, GeoCities tends to move the JS code
to a file, then conveniently forget where they put it, and interrupt your enjoy-
ment of the page to tell you that the JS file was not found.

Any other Netscape users notice this with GC pages?

The Three Stooges also used a variant of the chicken gag in a couple of shorts. Playing the role of a short-order cook, Curly (or Shemp) would pour boiling water up a chicken's butt, shake it, pour the chickeny water into a bowl, and serve it to a customer. One must wonder just how long that gag has been around and who first thought up this novel way of soup preparation....

"Another trick like that and you'll be Southern fried!"
--said by Curly to a recalcitrant chicken who wouldn't lay eggs right

That chicken gag was also used in one of the very first "Cartoon Cartoons". At the time, they were called "World Premiere Toons". In one cartoon called "Yuckie Duck", a gross-out restaurant gag cartoon, a chicken does the exact same thing.

does the word 'vaudeville' ring any bells?
