View Full Version : Where is GOLDDIGGERS OF '49???

In my life I have managed to catch about 780 of the Warner cartoons here, there, and everywhere. But the most elusive one of all has been GOLDDIGGERS of '49. There appeared not to be a "Seven Arts" colorized version, I have never caught it at a screening festival, nor have I ever caught it on TV. Do I just not watch enough? Is there something hideously un-PC in it? This is the first "real" Porky Pig cartoon, and since I was ten I have had nothing but Joe Adamson's tantalizing description of it in his Tex Avery book. Is there anywhere I can buy on video or wait to see this cartoon?

I think Cartoon Network showed it only once, and it was on Late Night Black and White. There are some Chinese stereotypical characters in the story (and they even do a blackface gag in one scene!), so maybe that's why they don't air it much.

Speaking of which, when was that date that CN showed GOLDIGGERS OF 49? Coincidentally, just earlier today I've been looking for it on tape but can't find it. I know I have it on tape so maybe knowing the date I recorded it will help me find it easier.

I don't know the date of the one time it aired on Late Night Black & White. CN aired the computer colorized version during their April Fool's Day Tex Avery marathon, too.

I have both colorized & b&w versions
taped off CN. I know which tape I have the B&W
showing on. "Boom Boom" also debuted that same
night too!

I think that CN showed "Goldiggers Of 49" back in October of last year, as has not shown the cartoon since then.

Didn't they show it on the recent "Acme Hour"
with the Beans theme? I'm probably thinking of "Boom Boom."
