Forget 'Batman and Robin', (I know I'm still trying to) -What's the REAL story behind Ivy? If any one could tell me that'd be great - it's for a fanfiction story I just got an idea for.

I'm not the expert on the history of Batman characters, and I've often wondered about Ivy too. Here's what I know:

The origin that was shown in B+R (Doctor Jason Woodrue attempts to kill Pamela Isley and she mutates into Poison Ivy) was, I think , based on her mainstream comic book origin (or so I read here). In the animated series, Ivy's origin is quite different. She is a biologist (or something) who gives monthly lectures on endangered plant species at Gotham University. She also worked for a company called "Cher Gerard", developping perfumes, one of which is called "NightShade". Because she had a mad obsession with plants, she dated and poisoned then-D.A. Harvey Dent because he plowed up a field of rare roses to build BlackGate Penetentary. It is never really explained how plants seem to understand her and obey her every whim, though. All of this info can be seen in the rather good B:TAS episode called "Pretty Poison".
