Plot Summary: Set in the Los Angeles Police Department in April 1992, Dark Blue is a dramatic thriller that takes place just days before the acquittal of four white officers in the beating of black motorist Rodney King and the subsequent L.A. riots. In this racially-charged climate, the LAPD's elite Special Investigations Squad (SIS) is assigned a high-profile quadruple homicide. As they work the case, veteran detective Eldon Perry (Russell), known for his tough street tactics and fiery temper, tutors SIS rookie Bobby Keough (Speedman) in the grim realities of police intimidation and corruption. Meanwhile, Assistant Chief Holland (Rhames), the only man in the department willing to stand up to the SIS, threatens to end Perry's brand of singlehanded "justice" on the Los Angeles streets. While navigating through the tumultuous neighborhoods of South Central L.A., Perry and Keough must track down cold-blooded killers and face their own demons, which prove to be more ruthless than the criminals they pursue

I went and saw "Dark Blue" on Monday.

Comments:
- The look of South Central was done extremely well, especially during the riot scenes.
- Russell's performance was great.
- I was extremely dissapointed with Michael Michele's performance. She seemed to have no emotion through most of the movie, especially when talking to Ving Rhames. Towards the end of the movie when Scott Speedman's character dies, she showed so much emotion that it was over the top and seemed forced.
- Looking at the city of L.A. in flames at the end of "Dark Blue" was quite a sight.

Overall I give "Dark Blue" ***1/2

I can't believe I didn't think to make this thread. I saw it the second day it came out.
I thought it was good. I liked "Narc" a little better, though. Kurt Russel's performance was outstanding, the movie captured the setting very well, and the plot was also good. I was taken aback, however, because I thought the movie was just about one of those tough cops who does things the way they need to be done, and Ving Rhames was just too conservative to let that go on. I didn't really expect the web of conspiracy and line-crossing (no, I'm not naive, I know that goes on, but I mean in the plot). The blue was definately darker than I expected. I give it ***1/4.

So, this film wasn't as cliched as it looked?
