Would you guys reccomend Trigun?

I've seen two or so eps of it and liked what I saw (Vash running into a bar drunk.) I hear it starts of comical, then get's all hardcore action on us? Is that true?

Yes, yes, and yes. I'd say eps five and six start to set the tone for the show and the action only really picks up after Nicholas Wolfwood shows up a few episodes after THAT.

Great series, though. Vash the Stampede is simply too cool for words. And Millie and Meryl are a hoot.

I rented the first DVD in the set and found I didn't like it much.

Trigun is a series that starts off silly and gets more serious as it goes on. Won't be everybody's cup of tea, though. The animation quality also drops off severely over the course of the show.
