Over the course of the last 50 or so years, there have been thousands or cartoons made for television. Of course, only a select few of these cartoons have everlasting effects on American culture. Generally, when a cartoon becomes a classic, a generation or two later it becomes the target for a remake. A restructuring, or rescultpting, so it fits the current time period. Oftentimes the recreation of an old TV show can have positive results(Shows like The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse, Felix the Cat, Lupin III '78, or the fantastic new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show on the Fox Box). But usually, this is not the case. There are dozens of subpar efforts as well(Monstrosities such as The New Adventures of Speed Racer(1991), The New Adv. of He-Man(1990), and Yo Yogi!(1991)). What cartoon remakes do you remember? Did you enjoy them? What do you think of the current remake trend? Is it tarnishing the images of the old shows? Or is it breathing new life into them? Your thoughts.

Sonic The Hedgehog SAT (1993) Excellent show.
The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (same year) good, but not great.
Sonic Underground (1998?) Sucked. Just plain sucked.
G.I. Joe (1984) GREATEST. SERIES. EVER.
G.I. Joe (DIC produced - 1990) stunk [mod edit].
G.I. Joe Extreme (early 90's) WORST. SERIES. EVER.
My Little Pony & Friends (1987) It may have been a girl's cartoon, but it sure as hell wasn't written that way. At least the MLP segment's weren't.
My Little Pony Tales (1992) It's like they took the cast of Clueless and mutated them into horses. Ugh.
Ducktales (1987) I loved this show.
Quack Pack (1997) I am so glad this show did not share the same continuity because this show was just plain bad.
Transformers (1994) Great show.
Transformers: Beast Wars, etc. (mid 90's) Didn't care for it.
Transformers: RiD, Armada (2000. 2002) Bring back the original show, now!

I've enjoyed most of the remakes I've seen from the mid nineties up, particularly Beast Wars/Machines. Yeah, I know some people don't like it but it wasn't really bad, more so it was going too far from the Transformers mythos for comfort, though that may have been the intention. Even the bad ones have been fairly entertaining (though still bad).

In my opinion, if many people regain interest in a show, put it back into reruns. The Yogi Bear revivals I have seen are much worse than the original. I did not care for the original Scooby-Doo, but the revivals were worse. Specials made featuring an old character tend to be poor.

Revivals tend to be hit, or miss sometimes. The new He-Man series on Cartoon Network did A spectacular job of honoring the original show, while offering something new at the same time. The same can be said of the new Ninja Turtles series on the Fox Box. However, some of the revivals of Transformers, and G.I. Joe leave much to be desired at times. (Armada is slightly better than RID, or Beast Wars, but lack some of the charm of the original.) Plenty of the Hanna-Barbera revivals that we've seen over the years haven't fared much better either, with the acception of "Flintstones On The Rocks", and maybe some of the Scooby DTVs, or the John K. shorts. (Depending on who you talked to.)

Loved Beast Wars & Beast Machines. I don't see why others hated it. The ongoing storylines were there. Then again, despite my avatar and screename, I really don't remember the G1 Transformers so I'm the last person who should be comparing them. :D
TF Armada. *SHUDDERS* It would be bearable if they GOT RID OF THOSE KIDS. I mean, what's the problem? They're giant robots, so step on them already!

I liked Beast Wars and enjoyed the first few episodes of Beast Machines. I never really immersed myself in G1 (Is that why I enjoyed BW and BM maybe? I dunno...) but I do get my G1 tapes and "time travel" on occassion. ;) I hated RID but Armada... I find myself loving it more the less I see the kids. I'm the sorry but the kids were a terrible idea. I liked BW best because the main focus was always the robots.
I also love the new turtles and new He-Man.
While they're not all bad, I've never seen a sequel for an animated feature film made that I can recall I enjoyed as much as the first. The magic of the first one is always lost.
