View Full Version : .hack Conspiracy Theory...

Ok, this is my interpetation of events so far in .hack//Infection and what could be behind them. Bear in mind that all I know is what's been 'revealed' (to use the term loosely) in .hack//Infection, .hack//Liminality: In the Case of Mai Minase, and the first three episodes of .hack//SIGN. I know there are people here that have seen a lot more than I have, and they'll probably have a good laugh at my pitiful attempts of making sense of things, but what the heck. I don't mind.

Anyway, all my theories are below, conviently 'hidden' by a spoiler box for anyone who comes into here, but doesn't want to be spoiled for events in .hack//Infection and .hack//Liminality Volume 1.

Okay, the major thing inspiring this is from .hack//Liminality, when the former CC employee enters The World's backdoor and shows Mai Seig and Seig II. My initial thought was that Seig II could be a decoy program CC is developing to help cover up the comatose players. You know, "What are you talking about? No, Seig's player isn't wasting away in a bed somewhere? He's right there! Ha ha ha... :)"
But then I realized, that's rather weak. So what else could it mean?
To state it bluntly, I think CC is experimenting with their technology to create something akin to mass mind control.
Remember Mai mentioning subliminal messages to the doctor? Maybe that's how it starts: as players use the headset and become immursed in The World, this funky subset of programming begins imprinting itself on their minds.
Only it's not brainwashing, not entirely. See, what this rouge program does is copy the brainwaves of the player - their personality, thought processes, everything - and transfers this to a main database somewhere. Then, this player data is copied into a second file: Seig II, for example. This second file has special programming interwoven into its interface. It could contain anything from "Buy all our products" to "Complete loyalty to fill-in-the-blank" to "The World is real", whatever the mastermind(s?) desire.
This is then translated to the II character, and gradually overlaid over the real player's subconcious mind. Therorecticly, over a period of time, the new programming could override the Player's original mind, merging seamlessly into their subconcious.
Only the process isn't going completely smoothly. Some of the Players this is being tested on have a violent reaction to the programming - rejecting it, repulsing it. The result is that they laspe into comas.
Enter the hackers, who could have several possible motivations:
1) They could be aware of the plot and trying to stop it by shutting down The World.
2) They could be trying to seize the project for their own purposes, like taking control of The World or what have you
3) They could be the actual source of the brainwashing, who knows? (In this case, CC is just trying to cover it up to keep from being blamed, sued and bankrupted... they don't want to pay out of their pockets because of this, no sir!)
Anyway, Aura is an AI program designed to protect The World and everyone in it. The bracelet is a program she:
A) Created herself to protect The World by granting its bearers God-like/Programmer-like ablilities
B) Swiped from the hackers to keep them from using it for their own not-so-good-for-The-World purposes.
So Skeith goes after Aura to track her down and keep her from interfering with the hackers and/or the CC. Aura attempts to find capable hands for the bracelet, and finds Orca, a long-time player who is famous in The World and holds enough clout and experiance to convieviably do something about this.
Who promptly becomes the victim of Skeith and goes into a coma, leaving the Book of the Twilight and the bracelet to Kite. (Aura: "Oh Holy Sap. That didn't work out like I'd planned...")
So Kite tries to figure out what the heck happened to poor Orca, meeting a variety of friends along the way, going on adventures, la de dah, then, near the end of .hack//Infection, finally tracks down Aura in Chosen Hopeless Nothingness... (where, incidently, her attempt to contact somebody else to help ended with Seig going into a coma. Aura's luck so far bites.)
...Only to find out that Skeith has also tracked her down, and blasts her to pieces right in front of Kite, BlackRose, and the third friend too.
With Aura split into pieces, contained in Virus Core container thingies, and send off to random fields in The World, the hackers are free to do as they please, mainly, destroying The World or whatever the heck their goals are. Meanwhile, CC's free to continue testing their program on unaware Players, trying to perfect it.
So what happens now?
Well, Kite and BlackRose likely decide to try and track down the bits and pieces of Viral Aura, put her back together, and find out what the heck is going on. Meanwhile, they run into more coverups by CC, and Helba continues to fool Kite into thinking she's one of the good guys so she can manpluate him into doing things that make taking over/destroying The World that much easier.
At some point, Orca is likely to show up... Only not Orca, but Orca II, sent by CC in order to keep more people from figuring out something's up. After all, Orca of the Azure Sea is one of their most famous and profilic Players, so his being out of commission might arouse lots of suspecions... Same deal with Seig II and the other characters of comatose Players.
Kite is likely to be initially fooled by this; not entirely, but he wants to think his friend's okay, and if his mind is still logged onto The World, it would answer why his body's in a coma, right? Sooner or later, however, things start to unravel, and Kite and his friends realize that not only do they have to expose the CC cover-up and everything that's really happening... they have to fight against the hackers too, as well as controlled copies of everyone who's fallen into a coma... including the famously powerful Orca of the Azure Sea...

...Okay, now you can all laugh yourself silly at my strange ideas.

that is partally true. CC develuped the Deadly Flash™ Virii(that killed 7 people in DEC 2003) and the Pluto's Kiss™(that shut down the Internet for 77min back in 2007) Virii to make ALTIMIT the only OS. also they are trying to overtake the hand held market with the WonderHawk the sucessor to the Wanderswan and it to uses ALTIMIT. why do you think that ALTIMIT was the only system that was imune to Pluto's Kiss™? there ya go i leave you with a Quote from Mai

"for somthing to be born, somthing must brake. the same aplys to humans... do you understand?"

I think everyone has it wrong...
It's the company that makes the Cat Toilet that's responsible. (Read the news in .hack//INFECTION if you don't know what I'm talking about.)
Notice that a cat character seems to be responsible for problems in .hack//SIGN. I'll bet every one in a coma owned one of their products.

what the.... as an outsider looking in I can say that this all makes absolutely no sense... I've seen the first few episodes of the show, but I've never played the game... this stuff is on crack...
