While I've already seen the show on VCD before, I've started collecting the R1 DVDs of the 08th MS Team, and I think Bandai is doing a pretty okay job with them. Wow, these mecha look great on DVD!

Anyway, I've noticed that Shiro's Gundams often lose their limbs in battle. I think his Gundam lost an arm in the first battle, and again when he fought Aina in the desert (actually, he was crushed against the ravine) There was also a pretty scary moment when Mikhail almost killed Shiro in the gears... I noticed his leg was stuck.

Subtle foreshadowing that I never considered before.

Is Toonami airing 8th MS on the afternoon slot yet?

It isn't on yet, but it will be in a few weeks I think.

Toonami didn't air the epiloge episode though.

Yah, I know. I was the one who started the thread on it the day before they reran episode 1 in place of 12. ;)

Is it still airing on the midnight slot, Thursdays and Sundays aside?

--they're running new Dragonball Z eps. Nothing to do with the Emergency Number Bombing ugliness, thankfully; 8thMSG had just gone through its third rerun cycle and CN probably wanted to retire it....

They're running new DBZ episodes at midnight?

Ah. Oh well.

I'm actually a little disapointed in the 08th MS Team DVDs. They don't really have any extras (Which is expected on Anime DVD) but it also only has 3 episodes, which even if it is an OVA is a rip off in my opinion.

The DVDs themselves are mediocre, but I haven't seen the show look this good before--it looked much better than when I saw it before...better than I thought.

Rip offs? Look at Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal--2 episodes a DVD. Great anime, poor deal.

They could wrap the series up in 3 DVDs at 4 episodes a volume, but 3 is such an odd number, and we know how Bandai likes milking it for what it's worth...

There's a cute 2 minute extra in volume 2, a sort of narrative documentary of the Gundam universe, though.

Well, the ultimate rip off has to be Blue Submarine...One episode on each DVD, totally unacceptable and why I didn't buy it (To my joy when CN aired it, I realised I didn't like it enough to own it anyways).

Do you watch the whole series before you buy the DVDs, or only some episodes? Just wondering.

It really depends. I bought Cowboy Bebop (My first anime) based just on a friend's recommendation just to get into anime, without ever seeing an episode. I bought the Gundam DVD after I had watched some episodes, of original Gundam I've only seen one episode on TV but 08th Team I watched up to episode 8, but I stopped watching since I had decided I would get it on DVD anyways. I have a couple Gundam Wing DVDs too, which I bought never having seen an episode, but I really haven't watched those DVDs yet either.

Overall it just depends, though a big factor is actually $. I would never buy a DVD with only 1 or 2 episodes without viewing it and I only risk buying those with 3-5 if I know I can absorb the cost. I'm really interested in Samurai X, luckily a rental store has it and I'll pick it up one of these days before I decide to buy.
