"Commie" is slang for "communist". They used to be our #1 enemy in the world. Now they can be found primarily in Cuba or China. In the USA they are most often seen posing as college professors. ;) [That's a joke son!]

If you seek to avoid using curses, maybe you should go with something along the lines of

Rather gallows humor, really. They can also be seen employed on campus newspapers and seem to get preference on the editorial page. I'm a conservative writer who knows that from experience, which why I got out of the journalism biz years ago. Communists are also godless people, but Islamic fundamentalists are just the opposite. They are fanatically godly...well, their interpretation of God, at any rate.
