"Bookworm" was directed by Hugh Harmon, and "Pop" was a Freleng. Avery also, I believe, was the voice of the walrus telling a dirty joke to a drunken penguin in "Penguin Parade".

"The First Bad Man" is one of Avery's funniest shorts. I don't know about Texas, but cliff dwellings like those do exist in parts of Arizona--I saw some of them on my trip there about 15 years ago. Presumably, though, they're long vacant....

Wasn't there some specualtion here awhile ago that "The Bookworm Turns" was probably actually done by Freleng, but he had just left MGM so Harmon was given the credit?
I believe the discussion centered on the points that Freleng had done a similar cartoon earlier at MGM ("The Bookworm") and the style and timing of it look much more like Freleng than Harmon.
