Notice how the upcoming anime Reign is reminiscent of the old 1998 MIB cartoon very much so in art design...?
The facial structure, lean, muscular and thin body design...
No, I'm not saying one copied the other, but do they have the same artists..?
I'm really interested in finding out, and looking closer some of you may see the similiarities.

Nope. The guy who did Reign is the same guy who did Aeon Flux. I'm 99.9% sure he did NOT do MIB (if you had seen Aeon Flux, you'de know why).

The chatacter designs for Reign are by Peter Chung, who also created Aeon Flux for MTV.

He also did the character designs for Phantom 2040, but they were much more toned down than his Aeon Flux & Reign designs.

You can see the similarities. Back to the age of a more cutting edge MTV.

Yeah, the thongs thing is weird, but I like the style. It's distinctive and original, which really counts for something. I'm just happy not to have the same old designs we see in 99% of anime today.

I actually really liked Aeon Flux, but I liked it for the writing, the plot (when there was one;)), and the fact that it wasn't a serial. (I love real serial programs when they're well-done, by which I mean really well-thought-out; but the fact that the main character could die in one ep and show up in the next, with nary an explanation in sight, worked well for that show.)
I actually didn't like the art much. Peter Chung's designs are very original and unique; many kudos to him for that. However, everybody looks like they've been severely malnourished and then stretched on the rack, which makes them rather uncomfortable to watch, if you see what I mean.
I'm sort of looking forward to Reign, because I've heard some good things about the storyline. But I'm not going to be watching for the character design's sake!

I dug Aeon Flux like mad and I own the DVD box,I love it for the writing,I ****in hate the animation but it was such a great show for it's writing.Reign doesn't have any of these and is just Peter trying to be weird,it has none of the ironic twists and suicidal characters that Aeon had.

Personally, I nearly despised Aeon Flux. Seemed like just a bunch of crap thrown together for no other purpose than to "weird out" the viewer, to me. If Reign is anything like that, I'm probably going to hate it, too.

Reign was Japanese in origin? Why did they use the Aeon Flux guy for character design? It looks like crap. Aeon Flux itself just looks a little odd, not crappy, but Reign looks like crap.

For the most part, yes, Reign is Japanese in origin. The series is produced by Rintaro (Astro Boy, Metropolis) and Masao Maruyama (Trigun, Cardcaptor Sakura) with animation by Madhouse (Trigun, Vampire Hunter D). They had Peter Chung do the character/concept designs probably because they wanted something that would look unique and distinctive...and his style certainly is that.

I though Aeon Flux was great as shorts. But when they went to 30min eps. it did little to nothing for me.
The art style just seemed right for the 3min shorts. It just did not look right for 30min straight. The scripts seemed weak to me and just the fact that she spoke took away the best parts.
The mystery, suspense and action.
I found the same thing with Reign so far. I could handle it for a few minutes but this style just doesn't feel right for 30.
I can't figure the story yet. So I will watch for a week and see how it goes. (I will guess it's not an accurate telling of history. :D )

You're wondering about that eh?
I can see where it's going in Aeon Flux she a woman I would expect that. But wat's up with Regin I'm mean men in very little clothes can look good at times but for goddness sakes put on some pants or shorts of some kind man.

I don't really like Reign's art. Some of the details are too defined. Many of the characters seem distorted to me in a way.
Regular anime style art suits me much better.

Chung's got some weird themes going on. It looks like he was watching some bondage videos when designing all this stuff, with all the leather and giant jock straps. And apparently some Micheal Jackson videos as well, with the faces looking like botched plastic surgery.
Seriously it seems like he's channeling Joel Schumacher.

I don't mind that they mess with history, Histeria and Time Squad has numbed me to such things.
I don't mind that the demeanor of all the characters are boring. Everyone always has the exact same facial expression, but I can live with that.
I am having a hard time digesting the the character designs though. Being a big history buff, I have read a lot about battles. And have imagined them many times. Never, in any of those imaginings, were they wearing thongs. Not to mention, these characters are just...creepy looking. They're limbs are long, they all look malnourished, and they all look more like monsters from another dimension than humans.
I'm with Gruntling on this one, regular anime style suits me much better.
