Apologies in advance for boring everyone but its 1.45am and I just have to gripe about this or I'll never sleep tonight ...

Anyone else have 'nuisance' teeth? Mine are not user-friendly, never have been despite being dragged - literally - to the dentist every 3 months as a kid from the age s of 5 to 16.

I had an appointment with my dentist today and have come back with mixed feelings ... first thing she tells me I could do with having a lot of work done, a mouthful of crowns, replacement veneers, earthmoving equipment etc which is going to cost a lot of money ... second she says I have a 'mismatched mouth' ie half the teeth are perfect while the other half are more or less held together with unibond and luck, and says obviously I went for years without seeing a dentist when I was little.

But that's not true, and I told her, like I said above that my mom forced me to go every 3 months on the dentist's recommendation ... it didn't take too long before we both came to the conclusion that I'd had a 'crooked dentist' (ie he did unecessary work just so that he could claim money for it as dental treatment for kids in the Uk is paid for by the government's national health service). Thinking back I know I never got out of that chair without a mouthful of local anaesthetic and another tooth plugged with amalgam despite never experiencing a single moments trouble between visits, no pain nothing. Then throughout my teens and 20s I've had endless problems with bits snapping off the teeth that have been filled again n again and they've hurt too.

After what I learned/realised today its made me feel pretty angry, he was an old guy anyway and is long gone now but this legacy he's left me is still a fact (oops that sounds a bit over-dramatic but you know what I mean) it just makes me wonder if anyone else has experienced anything like this? My dentist now is fantastic and I've no complaints about her at all but I can't help but wonder if, like my husband I'd only been taken to the dentist a handful of times as a kid I'd have a lot more to smile about ... I guess its just the luck of the draw?

The final irony is that the parents who forced me to go all those countless times 'for my own good' have not been to the dentist themselves in over 40 years and their teeth give them no trouble at all.

I have a 2 hr appointent on 17 March *shivers* wish me luck and again sorry for droning on

I am glad to say I have a pretty darn good set of teeth, tho I am over due for a dentist visit. I got my wisdom teeth in the fifth grade, by the way. I don't think that is particularly important, but my dentist was quite impressed with that, and it seems that people I talk to about the subject think that is also something to note. So, when did you all get your wisdom teeth?

And I am glad to say I still have my wisdom teeth. I guess I have a big mouth!

Fifth grade? I guess that is early, didn't get mine till I was 19 or so, actually mine have been pretty troublefree, most of my friends/family have had to have theirs extracted and had faces swollen up like balloons for a week. Can't be much fun.

Nope - it means you're very very wise :D ;)

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out last year - I'd really rather not go into my dental history ('twas a long and winding bumpy road - braces, retainers, pallate (sp?) expanders - you name it, I've had it done, lol)

I hate my teeth too. I've never had a cavity though. But my doctor always complaining to me about flossing and brushing and all that. At least I'm not getting ripped off. I only go twice a year. That reminds me I have a check up in March. Oh how I hate the dentist. *shiver*

My teeth are not even close to perfect. To start me early, they put braces on my teeth in the third grade. I finally got them off in the sixth grade, but it doesn't end there. I currently wear a retainer to keep my teeth in line, but it looks as if I will be wearing it for a while. It seems my tongue is pushing on my front teeth, making them stick out a little in the front. If this does not end, I'll be back to braces again. :(

I really don't see why it matters if my teeth aren't perfect. I think they're fine the way they are. You can't even tell they stick out a little unless you look closely. As for my wisdom teeth, I think I got them, or started to get them, in seventh grade. My mouth is so wide, they had no trouble coming in, which is good for me!

Well I'm going to need some serious work on mine as that Most of my teeth are root Cannals and that I have 2 wisdom teeth that really need to be pulled, not to mention I may have to get 2 more caps on my teeth, and most of them need fillings, and after this work, I'm going to be in pain and not too happy for at least 3 to 5 days.

I'm happy with the teeth I have, though there are a lot of things I can do to improve them. Of course, said things cost a LOT of money. I don't have buck teeth or a noticeable overbite at all, but according to the dentist, it's something that needs fixing. And then there's the issue of colouring; I don't smoke, brush all the time, and never have cavities, yet my teeth are never gleaming white. I don't really care, but it'd be a nice change.

I did get two of my wisdom teeth pulled three years ago. It was quite the adventure. They were HUGE and had these little hooks on the end that made them extra-difficult to twist out of my jawbone. I kept them because the dentists said having such weird teeth is very rare; of course, I've lost them since. :p

I'm completely satisfied with mine. My dentists have even told me before that I have nice teeth, whcih is cool to hear. :) The only thing that bugs me right now is that I've had a broken filling for 4.5 years now. Two spaces back, I also have a wisdom tooth coming in, so I should probably go for a checkup and repair work soon... Care to donate? :p

My teeth are... unique, if nothing else, though I dotake excellent care of them. I could have used braces, but they're good enough for me as is.
