For the next week (2/8-2/14) I am a member of the Nielsen family! Assuming that my diary comes today, of course.

I also happen to be moving from a home with no cable to a home with DirectTV tomorrow as well. Since I'm completely overwhelmed by the responsibility of being a Nielsen family member and suddenly having hundreds of channels, I am taking requests as to what I should watch for the next week, having the incredible cosmic power of Nielsen on my side.

I don't promise to watch all of the shows suggested, but I'll give most of them a look at the very least, which will may your favorite show for at least a quarter of an hour. :)

The District on CBS Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET is fantastic. It stars Coach's Craig T. Nelson as Washington DC Police Chief Jack Mannion. It also has Sean Patrick Thomas from "Save the Last Dance" and Lynne Thigpen, who played The Chief in "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" Ving Rhames sometimes guest stars as Attorney General Trot Hatcher.

You can visit its CBS site at this address, http://www.cbs.com/primetime/district/. If you have I believe it's Real Player there is even an episode preview.

Dilbert the animated version of the popular Scott Adams comic strip first airs Sundays(Monday morning) at 12 a.m. on Comedy Central. You can find its site here, http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/dilbert/ The show originally aired on UPN a few years ago and there are 30 episodes.

It preserved much of the office wit of the cartoon and featured an all-star voice cast including Daniel Stern as Dilbert, Chris Elliott as Dogbert, Kathy Griffin as Alice, Larry Miller as the Pointy-Haired Boss, Jason Alexander as Catbert, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Asok The Intern & Ratbert and Jim Wise (Even Stevens) as Loud Howard.

Check out my sig for the first episode talkback.

And of course if you would check out Velocity, Heatand Confidential this week that would be great. ;)

How does one get a Nielsen box?

How does one get a Nielsen box?

Random selection. They accept no volunteers.

I never really agreed with the Nielsen system. A few representing millions is NOT my idea of a fair system. This is why we have so much reality TV and kiddie cartoons on the air. Darn it all.

 And I thought you weren't ALLOWED to tell ANYONE that you have become a Nielsen guinea pig--er..."family-member." I'll go double-check at www.nielsenmedia.com

In an ideal world cable boxes would come standard with ratings trackers, but everyone's all crazy over the "privacy" issue. I really don't see the problem with networks knowing what TV shows you watch; I really don't.

FARSCAPE!!! Farscape, farscape, farscape, farscape! For the love of all that is good and holy, please, please, please, please watch Farscape! This show is doomed if the ratings aren't pulled up with the next few (and last) episodes. You'd be doing all Farscape fans a huge service if you watched.

Try comparing a Saturday Morning episode of The Fairly OddParents with the Feb. 14 broadcast of the Love Struck (its TV Tome title) episode. See how a rerun compares to a new episode.

I agree that you must at least watch Adult Swim action. I love this block and I hate to see it go away....oh and especially watch Futurama, just to slap Fox in the face for not renewing it.

Man, if I had the Nielson box, I would do incredible things with it.

Wow! That's pretty nifty!

Back in the days of Ally McBeal, we got a phone call about doing one of these diaries, but my folks turned them down. :( Maybe if they had accepted, FOX would have noticed how devoted I was to Ally and let me become a reoccuring character :p

Anyway, don't worry about it too much. I'll bet your day-to-day doesn't leave you with much TV time as it is, so watch whatever it is you normally watch. The shows I'm interested in (Gilmore Girls, Smallville) are already earning high ratings, so I'm not worried about them. If you don't mind religious-references, give Touched by An Angel a look-see tonight...though I doubt it'll change the fact that the series is ending in the spring.

Hmmmm.....I will have to insist, however, that you watch Ally McBeal if you find it playing in sindication on one of your channels!

It's Tech TV's new anime block that airs at 11:00p.m.EST from Monday-Thursday and it repeats itself with a marathon on Fridays starting on 11:00p.m. EST.

If you are interested in the block, hopefully you watch the Friday encore viewings and set aside Mon-Thrus for AS. :D

Ahhhh, I hate you !

My family was given the opportunity of becoming a Neilson family 2 years ago and my parents said no. Why ? They say we watch too much TV already, while that's true...We don't watch any less TV than we did before the opportunity came up.

Congrats EinBebop . I suggest you watch all of Toonami and the new TMNT series.
