LOL. I love the image of R2 wedged in the window. Great. But how far from the truth is it.... ?

Not for me..... :(
Star Wars was suppose to be King Movie for me until the day I died. I feel bad that there's now a better trilogy out there.
For YEARS up 'til when Fellowship of the Ring came out, all my friends used Star Wars as the trilogy that could not be compared to anything. We referred to it as the Holy Trilogy that all other movies could only hope to be, but now......
Now I know the reality of it. Kings down last forever. Someday a trilogy will come to top Lord of the Rings, but it was bitter sweet when I found a better lover out there.
The Artoo pic is classic:

Eh, for some reason LOTR didn't appeal to me that much......I dunno why... it just didn't.
Still a Star Wars man baby! :D

I don't feel guilty about seeing LoTR behind Star Wars back. Infact after a while I just came clean and Star Wars is fine with the whole thing as long as I make time to see it like I do LoTR's.
You see you have to be able to juggle these kinds of relationships so no one gets hurt.

LOTR doesn't appeal to me at all, either. I saw the first movie, skipped the second one, and won't be watching the third one either. I'm just not interested in sword and sorcery stuff, Tolkein's story, his black and white moralizing, or the way the films are being co-opted by the reactionary right to get their points across (all the while wallowing in their own hypocrisy as these are the same people who burn Harry Potter books because they're about wizards and magic).
So make mine Star Wars. Not that I mind that everyone else likes LOTR better. More power to them. I could care less what other people think and it's easy to ignore pop culture sensations (Survivor, American Idol, Friends); I do it all the time.

You do know there's "black and white moralizing" in Star Wars too, right? :p
Yeah, I feel that America should have more "shades of gray" movies...like Red Dragon, or Gangs of New York, or The Ring. Cause you know it's the mindless violence and blood and guts that launches an international franchise filled with devoted fans who flock to the movies. Not those pesky morals, mind you.

My love affair with Star Wars has been affected by my love affair with Lord of the Rings, but not the way that article said. Instead, I'm just forced to get together two TVs, one DVD player, and one VCR, and have a three-way... an all-trilogy three-way!

Hehe, I'm just a two timer and enjoying it. I love Star Wars very much so, but pratically relish in seeing LOTR. I'm in love with the books, and find the movies quite kick butt. They are two completely different storylines, one futuristic, and one fantasy, but they still rock in their individual ways. So yeah, I just watch both with as much love , it's definitely a fun three way :D

I don't care what other people like and why other people go watch films. I was giving my reasons for not watching LOTR. I don't need to justify myself any further, just as I don't need to justify why I don't like black olives on a pizza. These are my personal preferences. If you like it so much, go watch it 100 times, I could care less.

Personally, I prefer their sources. Star Wars is a movie first, love the originals, love seeing everyone screwing themselves in the prequels... Aside from my Droids tv taped ep with Boba Fett in it, I'm really not big on official spinoff stuff. ObiWan and QuiGon playing fairy tale dress-up in Japanese fan-comics does it for me.
LOTR movies are done incredibly well. I mean, this is what good adaption is all about. Coherent, faithful, and exciting. Still, I ultimately prefer the books. And I sure would've loved seeing the Beatles' version that was planned out during the 60s.

I'm a two timer as well and enjoying it. Star Wars will always be a special series for me, and one of my favorite trilogies. It will just have to share its position now with LOTR as well.

technically, LotR doesn't have a lot of sorcery in it, a lot of swords though. they can be seen as similar. swords = lightsabers. sorcery = force. different, yet same.

I was using the term "sword and sorcery" to refer to the genre. I suppose you can also call it high fantasy, i.e. elves, dwarves, magic users, set in a vaguely medievel setting. You know, all the Tolkein elements which D&D distilled into their games.
Star Wars is fantasy, but it's not the same type of fantasy.

I like LOTR more then star wars. Star wars just seemed to bore me, it wasn't all that interesting, IMO.

LOL! That is funny even if it is true. I guess I should say I'm sorry Star Wars and I promise to watch you more in the future. :D But I still love LOTRs! :p

I'm a two timer, as well. Albeit, while LOTR is absolutely enthralling and fascinating to watch, I find that the characters in Star Wars resonate with me in a deeper way. I'm very attached to that story.
'Better' is a non-issue for me: I care about what movies get me where it counts, you know? So I think I'll always prefer Star Wars.
But I still thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the Lord of the Rings: books and films alike.
