No discernable theme, although I noted that the first and last shorts involved toys come to life, and bears were featured in the third and fourth. Though Avery didn't direct it, "The Alley Cat" looked a bit like his style, esp. the frantic bit where the butler chases the cat about and the dog, confused, clocks him on the head with a blunt object.
The shingle tidal wave in "Rainy Day" was pretty visually stunning for...what was it, the thirties? Long before CGI, mind you....
And of course "Car of Tomorrow" is Avery's usual dodginess...the feminine car with the dropping neckline and buttocks-shaped trunk always gets me.
