I feel the same way. Gundam 08th MS Team is one of my favorites, but I love the dark storytelling of Gundam Zeta.

Fixed the poll and transferred two votes from "other" to Zeta (and added other US-aired Gundam series).

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but I like Gundam Wing. It's just so much fun to watch. I know it ripped off the original, but I frankly think it's a better version of that story than the original was. The psychadelic telepath angle never worked for me.

I liked 08MS Team the most because every other Gundam series had too many mentally disturbed characters (ie split personalties, obsessions, extreme loners, etc.). Usually, I enjoy complex characters, but a show loses all semblance of realism when the entire cast is nuts! *coughGundamWingcough*

Besides, Shiro and Aina were cute :) Too bad Toonami was too chicken to air the final episode because...
...it showed a dead body and a funeral scene that couldn't be cut out

0083 all the way for me. Great story. Great action. Awesome end. Love that their target in the end was the grain in north america. Never saw it coming. Also there was no new types running around just two super strong ms beating the living **** out of each other. O ya thats what I call a good series. Just redo the animation and 08th got nothing on it.

Turn A Gundam. The most beautiful Gundam series there ever was (yes, a Gundam series that can aptly be described as "beautiful"), a fine soundtrack by Yoko Kanno, a terrific return to form for Yoshiyuki Tomino, and, in many ways, the most mature show in the franchise.

I'd even argue that it's the most original mecha series since the early 80's, back when guys like Tomino, Ryosuke Takahashi, and Shoji Kawamori were defining modern mecha anime. In terms of action, it's relatively subdued but the great atmosphere isn't quite like any giant robot series I can think of. It's almost Miyazaki-ian.

Mobile Suit Gundam.

I saw a few eps of Zeta and I'm sure that will be my #1 favorite after I see more of it.

G Gundam. As cheesie as it was, it had a strong and coherant story that had something that you shouldn't miss almost every episode.

Likeable characters and a BIG but simplictic plot that was told from the heart.

No other Gundam series has made me say lines outloud to it, cuz every time I watch a G Gundam episode I always say, "HERE I GO!!! Shiiiiniiiing FINGER!!!" or "Ready!!! GO!!!"

All shall fall against the KING OF HEARTS!!! :D

I like Turn A gundam also
i have only seen a couple but i know most of the plot line already
through websites and reviews. As a result i can't wait until
the episodes are dubbed (helps understand it better)
I also heard that they did the mecha in CGI instead of regular animation this allows for smoother movement

some people are shocked by it's appearence (eg. the V fin is over the face )but when you look at a few other mobile suits
such as wing gundam and X gundam they have a very similar
thing goin on on the side of the face

this is where that comes from i think

very nice plotline and origional it was made for their 20th
aniversery so the origional fans were gonna be 20+ years old
so it had to have more meaning

My vote goes out to Mobile Fighter G-Gundam. It was cheesy and wasn't a war anime, but the mecha was awesome and it had amazing fights. And while the father/brother thing was cliched, they added in plenty of plot twists to make an enjoyable story with some good suspense. And the characters were awesome. And you've got to love someone who shouts out "SHINING FINGER".

As much as G Gundam is a great series, it is just a one-hit wonder. Gundam : The 08th MS Team is the one of the best, not couning G it is the best.

Zeta gundam is the best because it has the besy characters and what i think is the best plot.

Gundam X i just love the whole idea behind it, and just because when i first got my fansubs i literally watched every single episode in a row without taking a single break...it was wonderful ^_^

Tough choice, but I had to go with 0080.

As much as I loved both 8th MS Team and Mobile Suit Gundam (I've watched the movie trilogy about as much as a 5 year old watches Monsters Inc.) niether of those impacted me as much as 0080.

08th MS Team put you down in the trenches with the grunts, which is something I like. Though I'd have to say 0083 was probably my favorite. Especially Gato's attack on the Feddie fleet at Solomon. That was niiiccee.

Tough choice. 8th MS team I loved, I'm a sucker for romance, it kept the war theme going, had some great fights, and cool mecha (Apsalus, anyone?) I'd say it had some of the best screen-writing and music out of the Gundam line. 0080, though, was just so powerful...I can't recall crying more at the end of any series or movie than after that video tape in 0080. It was war, real and painful, and it was beautiful.

Of what I've seen (0080, 0083, what they showed on AS of MSG, and what they showed on Midnight Run of G Gundam), I've loved all of them for different reasons!

But I think my favorite thus far is 0080: excellent writing and good character design. :)

Gundam W. Mainly because it was the first Gundam I ever watched. Though I did see the SD Gundams before that but I didn't know they were a paraody. 2nd is G Gundam , then 0083 though I didn't understand the ending, and I've seen the last episodes of 08MS team on CN but I didn't like the ending. Of course I just found out that CN never showed the last episode, so I might change my opinion if I ever do see the last episode.
I've only seen bits and pieces of the other shows they've shown on CN, I would like to see Turn A Gundam if I ever find a dub.

Nobody knows Victory Gundam? Come on...

I'd say the the MSG movie trilogy is the best. It's an effective compact retelling of the MSG series which got the whole ball rolling. Pretty hard to beat the most influential Gundam series of all time, IMO.

Zeta Gundam is great, but it's essentially a redoing of the original Gundam with different results at the end. Same type of characters, similar kind of storytelling, but 50% darker.

Turn A Gundam is just right above Z Gundam for me. Visually, it's the most impressive TV series, and it has a truly different type of storytelling style from previous Gundams.

Oh, and V Gundam is unjustly underrated and overlooked. Try it if you find a fansub of it.

I like Gundam Wing the best. Why? I found the story most appealing and I liked the character design too. Plus it was the first one I'd ever seen, so it just kinda stuck... plus I thought Hero was cute... What? Well, I did... :D

Second, G Gundam. I liked the whole Gundams used for sport rather than war. It put a different spin on things... plus there was a female fighter. Allenby rocks! Girl power!

Anyway, Zeta Gundam is the best, then Victory Gundam, with Char's Counterattack behind. Yes, I do like dark and depressing stuff.

I like Gundam 0083. I think the story is cool and the Gundam design functional unlike the newer Gundam designs.

I highly recommend buying the 08MS Team DVD (#4 has the final ep). The real ending of the series was awesome!
Maybe it will be aired on Adult Swim one day :)
