View Full Version : Who loves Dragonball?

I hope I get some replies. It is better, I still like DBZ. After the Emperor Pilaf Saga, it is now to the Tourterment Saga it will lead to the Red Ribbon Army Saga. It is the best Toonami show ever, with DBZ, and from KWB's Toonami, Jackie Chan Adventures, Batman Beyond (that will leave KWB this week and rerun to CN), PokeMon Johto Tourtment, and unsucessful series Moble Suit Gundam that will not rerun on CN's Toonami.

--- For me, the reason I love the show better is Launch, she's cute in the good and bad side......On second thought, I like her in the good side, not her bad side.:o

Who like the show more than I do?

You may get more favourable responses in the General Animation forum. My experience with Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon and Pokemon here is usually that of silence or negativity.

Launch did show up on DBZ early on, I have the trading cards and all, but I've heard she was cut... Personally, I prefer Bad Launch. I really hope DB gets some toys of its own- particularly of the femme sort...

I like the Pilaf arc best so far, but is it the right name for it? I mean, I know Pilaf-tachi show up to kick off GT... And I've heard there's one more DB appearance before then....

I've looked in on DBZ a few times, and can't honestly say I was very impressed. The scenes I saw were all close-ups of scowling faces, followed by guys pounding each other. Then more scowling faces, and more guys pounding each other. And yet *more* scowling faces, and *more* guys pounding each other.

Maybe it's a guy thing?

If it's a guy thing, it manages to elude me, too. So why are all the bad guys named after food?

DBZ (when it was on regulary syndicated TV here a few years ago) usually came on at some early enough hour here to make it easily ignorable. That, and it doesn't sound like my kind of show...

Of course, thanks to the death of syndicated cartoon shows (everything network-aligned these days) and all the local TV stations here switching to morning news shows, and no more KWB morning toons, the only morning cartoon left airing in Indianapolis TV is reruns of "Bullwinkle" at 6:30 AM (on the WB affiliate)...

"Pilaf" is a type of rice dish, 'Doh... I tried making "rice pilaf" (some sort of rice with onions in it) once, going by the instructions from a cookbook, but it didn't turn out as appetizing as the pictures made it out to be...

Launch is quickly becoming my new favorite character--she seems to manifest a multiple personality disorder that comes out when she sneezes. I'd hate to see what happens after she...well...ahem...has Mexican food for lunch, if you catch my drift. Her dark half is bad enough, but even her girly innocent half is trouble--she prepared puffer fish for the men, and Krillen and Roshi got puking sick on it, because she didn't realize if cut wrong the stuff can be poisonous. Goku was upset because he failed Roshi's stone test and got no dinner, but it was a blessing in disguise.
Interesting that Bulma and that pretty-boy (whose name escapes me for the moment) had their wishes come true without the use of the dragonballs. Maybe that's the moral of the story...you have to work to realize your dreams and not count on magic dragons and such.
I wonder why Goku married Chi-Chi rather than Bulma, considering their history? Or was it just her personality that kept them just friends? Then again, it must be great to be able to say one's father-in-law is the Ogre King of Fire Mountain....

Rice pilaf. Good stuff, but I don't think that dish could kick my butt.

I've always thought of Goku and Bulma as having a "Ash" and "Misty" 'relationship' myself, aside from Bulma's being a bit more pervy... Totally non-romantic in my opinion. That said, Chi-Chi pretty much set out to marry Goku after he touched her crotch. He agreed to marry her, not knowing what marriage was all about.

Toriyama does leave out pretty much how the actual romances play out, though. Bulma and Yamcha's relationship is built on "you're a guy/you're a girl/lalalala"... Goku's a fairly simple person and he seems happy with Chi-Chi. Maybe she's not the love of his life, but he doesn't seem to be the type to search for more.

There's several cases of someone expressing a crush and that being shown as a relationship and/or marriage when the show jumps to a later year in these characters' lives. But that's no different than the courtship of Toriyama's "Dr. Slump" and his love interest... It's a one-sided crush but there's a child from the future to 'prove' it becomes more.

I'd have to say Bulma/Vegeta is my favorite 'official' pairing, even if it's a dbZ one... I'm sure they have some fights, but there's alot of passion- and even respect. Bulma's a proud, intelligent and somewhat pervy woman. I have little doubt that Vegeta was fascinated.
I also like the 'counterpart', unofficial :(, ones... Mr. Satan and Boo, Kami and Mr. Popo, Pilaf and Shuu, Goten and Trunks, Pan and Bra, Mai and.... well, I dunno but Mai was quite a nice little number in her youth...

Yeah, it was right when the people made Goku and ChiChi as a married couple. There's a person from Yesterdayland really upset when Bulma married to Vegita instead to Yamcha. I kind of upset when Krillin should be married Maron, but instead he end up marring human 18. Well at least he name his daughter after his last girlfriend.

The relationship with Goku and Bulma is kind of a brother/sister relationship. This comment is off topic, but it more like Loud Kiddington is Pepper Mills' little brother. A Histeria! comment.;)

I like Dragonball, even more so than I like DBZ and GT. The humor and the different places Gokou goes are quite fun to see. I really liked Gokou as just a simple boy and not the strongest fighter in the universe.

Yes, and Launch/lunch is a great character too.

Mine too! :) Though I don't watch DBZ that much. I used to go a place called fanfiction.net some time ago, and always got just a leetle leetle bit irritated when someone tried to match up either Vegeta or Bulma with someone else. Then I'd go to another story and forget about it :D

She had some scenes early on, but Funimation pretty much cut them all out. Look here in the "Lunch" section... It implies the closeness between 3-eyes and Clown boy, to boot! Woohoo!

They lived together at the stat of 'Z' but beyond that? It's not very clear... Basically if you want to think she got married to Tenshinhan, there's not much evidence to contradict or confirm it... Or if you think there's more to 3 eyes' relationship to his little clown buddy and they sent Lunch packing... Same situation, really.

Kurrin could NEVER have married Marron. She was an anime only character. The Garlic Jr saga appeared only in the anime and so did her scene in the Android Saga (hence Roshi telling Turtle "Krillin can never know she was here, got that?")

As for Lunch and Ten: They have an argument at the beggining of Z. She'd made him a large meal. He asks where she got the money for it and she reveals that she robbed a bank. Later, during the Goku vs Vegeta fight, she is seen in a bar trying to drown her sorrows. She was going to have a cameo in the Buu saga (as one of the people donating energy for Goku's Genki Dama aka Spirit Bomb) but Toriyama decided to use Android 17 instead

You'd think two headstrong, control-loving people would be a bad match--Vegeta's a former prince who demands worship, and Oolong once suggested that Bulma just wanted the dragon to give her a substanceless Ken doll boyfriend she could reign over. But maybe I'm wrong. Little wonder I'm still single. Incidentally, why didn't Bulma marry Yamcha, and how'd he get those scars on his face?
On that subject, Gohan was really trapped in the middle when he brought Videl home to meet his mother. Taking my mom and sister-in-law into account, I know how it feels to be between two strong-willed women. I don't know if the two kids ever get serious or if Chi-Chi could ever learn to like/respect a girl that's a bit too much like herself for comfort....

I'm always sick and tired of over-muscled, over-powered, grim-faced shout-a-holics beating the living crap out of each other for a so-called "5-minute" brawl that lasts 10-15 episodes.

This will REALLY tick off some die-hard DBZ fans, but overstuffing Toonami with a nearly male casted, tetestorne-fueled fly-shout-and-brawl fest like DBZ has tarnished the variety on CN's block.

It will be more better if they don't put out three DBZ eps a day and put back The Sailor Scouts, The Outlaw Star crew (doing double duty at the daytime as well as their current Midnight stint) and the original Gundam. Why do they have to cancel the original Gundam just when I was begining to enjoy the show?

And as for Dragonball, if you put the show with DBZ, it will make Akira Toriyama's franchise conquer the monoply on Anime on CN. Life should not be that unfair.

At least give DBZ one episode a day, eliminate the Saturday DBZ marathon, and let the other shows have their spotlight.

put back The Sailor Scouts, The Outlaw Star crew

Uh, I think Outlaw Star has been rerun enough for 5 decades, and I wouldn't mind having SM back, just as long as it doesn't take Dragonball's place.

The thing is that Toonami is getting its highest rateings from DBZ, so I don't think they'll stop playing it. The only show they NEED to play is Mobile Suit Gundam, because they didn't finish it.

Some people just can't forget the Freeza saga, Not ALL episodes are like that you know.

We know that human/Sajin hybrids are stronger than either race is pureblooded, and it seems each generation can reach the next level younger and younger. I predict sooner or later an infant will go super-Saijin in the womb and kick its poor mother to pieces. ;)

Are there female super-Saijins? :dot:

I've wondered that sometimes myself, but I don't think there's any full-blooded ones in the DBZ series, although there might be some in the realm of fanfiction. ;) Bra, Vegeta's daughter, is the only girl I know of that has any saijin blood, though I could be wrong (I've only watched the show a few times and read a few webpages...so what do I know?) ;)

I drew a half-saijin girl character once, but I could never get her to look right, and couldn't think of a good name for her, so I pretty much gave up that idea...

Meh. I just don't really care for DBZ. It's just too much of a guys show, not that females can't enjoy it as well. All that muscle-flexing, screaming, and flying around just isn't my kind of show.

Maybe I should start a new thread for this, but I got an e-mail from a high-quality online magazine editor asking for opinions on DBZ for some kinda top 10 list she wants to do an op-ed on. I don't think I can help - I'm on the road full-time and haven't watched DBZ in months. I also never read the manga (Japanese comic) the show is based on.

If this question would be better posted elsewhere, please let me know - I've been gone for a while.

==============

And here's the question:

"If you could list ten differences between the manga and the anime what would be your top ten? LIKE IT sucks because this happened in the manga and we never got to see it in the anime or vice versa ... ?"

I like DragonBall a bit more than DBZ.

The only DBZ shows that I like were the Cell Gmaes, but since it's not on Toonami anymore, and showed the newer ones, I thought it was a bit boring to me, so I started to watch DragonBall, and I got hooked to that.

"Are there female super-Saijins?"
I remember reading somewhere that the reason there were no famale super-saijins was because they didn't know what to make them look like when they transformed.

As for the relationships part of this thread. I also think that Vegeta and Bulma make a good pair. Two proud headstrong people may not have a peaceful relationship, but its interesting. Goku and Chi-chi makes sense to me, especially since goku (as an adult and a child) does say that he misses her and thinks about her whenever he leaves her.

As far as what I think of the show. I like DB and DBZ. Why do guys have to be the only ones that like fighting? I will admit that it does get a bit annoying that battles take a dozen episodes to be completed, but I don't mind it that much. Both shows have action and humor as well as a continuing plotline. Its a lot better than a lot of cartoons that are on. It would be a bit better and probably more interesting to other girls if there were some powerful female fighters but there are other shows that have that, so I can live without it. Of course I recognize that I'm in the minority, but I don't care, I usually am. I hope they don't bring back sailor moon, i hate that show.

I love both Dragonball and Dragonball Z.

Yes, that's very true, they both have their good and bad qualities.

Dragonball- humor and cuteness and some action. Looks old, graphics wise, but music is good.

Dragonball Z- less humor, but it's good when it is there. Lots of action, better than Dragonball's, and more suspense. Better looks, animation wise. Not as high quality music as Dragonball.

Why was this post even brought up? You could have started another one.

DBZ and Dragonball are series that require long term involvement. A single saga in the "Story of Goku" usually has more episodes than other Anime Series do in their entirety.

I enjoy DBZ and Dragonball because they make me laugh. It is an entirely different experience from that of Gundam Wing, or other shows.

I watch it because it's fun, not for high drama. Also, the multitude of fighting episodes makes the rare "mundane/peaceful"episode far funnier, or dramatic as the case may be.

No, it's not Trigun, or Cowboy Bebop, but neither is it a bad show.
