I recently watched Disney’s Mulan. I have to say that this movie had a lot of potential at the beginning. Unfortunately the mood of the story is ruined by the standard “Disney formula”.

There has been a few good points in the movie like the mountain battle with the Hans, but everything fell apart with the singing, wisecracking dragon, Americanized jokes, 2D villains and bumbling soldiers.

What really had me vomiting was at the end of the movie when the guardian spirits started rapping and partying if they were at a Friday night party!

Is it that hard to make Mulan more authentic? Please Disney, take away the animal sidekicks, smart-ass dialogue and wretched singing!

Personally I would like to see more Asian style music instead of the standard Hollywood score that is peppered in the movie. Why did they have to go with American pop music in the rolling credits?

The good points in the movie? Well the artwork in Mulan is a mixture of American and Asian art styles and overall it works well in this movie.

I really didn’t want to put down this movie, but the Disney formula has prevented me from liking this movie!

Rating: 2.5/5.0

Mulan was a personal favorite of mine, I liked the art style alot and I didn't quite find the animal charecters annoying. I really liked the 3rd song in the movie "Be a Man." very, very catchy. It also had one of my favorite Disney villans in the form of Shan-Yu that guy was just pure evil, in fact they edited one of my favorite scenes with him out of the movie I think. You know the line with.

But the really chilling part is the archer's reply as he draws back his arrow. "One."

'Mulan' is one of my favorite animated movies, partly because I appreciate the use of Asian art, and also because Mulan is the one Disney heroine I can identify with best. Particularly those early scenes, where she's trying to pass as a demure lady, and she just can't pull it off.

I love "Mulan". When I watched it on the disney channel 3 years ago, to be honest I wasn't expecting much. But I was pleasently surprised.

This like Hunchback was a more adult disney film that worked very well (unlike Atlantis which IMO was horrible). The songs worked, the joke's worked and like the classic disney pictures like Snow White, Dumbo, The Lion King or Bambi you really felt for Mulan.

I wish I'd recored it now, can't wait for the proper DVD to come out.

I liked Mulan, there was nothing really wrong with it, but I think Aladdin is my fav Disney movie, or maybe Alice In Wonderland...

I loved it! One of the best Disney movies I've seen. Not on my top 5, but definitely on my top 10.

I absolutely loved this movie! Maybe my avatar gives that away :D! It didn't really feel like a typical Disney movie to me, besides the prescence of Mushu who was just plain loveable. The songs, the music are just so phenomenanal! You could say this is one of the rare Disney films that takes the musical and score format and makes it work! The story itself is one of the reasons I love it so much. It's just one of those rare Disney movies that stands out above others, in my opinion at least.

I very much loved this movie, and I'm Japanese. ^_^ It is basically a Disney formula, but it works every so often, and the story was done well. The "Friday Night" party like thing was a bit overdone, but I still believe this to be one of Disney's better movies.

That's interesting because I was just thinking about that movie this morning.( but I don't remember why) I was thinking about the part where they were singing, A Girl Worth Fighting For. I wasn't fully awake yet though so I don't know what brought me to that thought.
Oh, well. I liked the movie. Not my favorite, but I liked it.
