Hello one and all, and welcome to Febuary's Drawing Board Open!

OK, for the benefit of any first timers, let me introduce the general concept.
On the first of every month I'll be starting a new competition with a given theme open to each and every person who wishes to post a picture (or pictures), in any medium from pencil to pastel, from photoshop to photography proper. You must then post your entries in this thread (which will be stuck at the top of the Drawing Board).

Your vote counts!
Then, on the 25th of each month, the window for posting your entries closes, and I'll throw the voting open to everybody on Toon Zone, even those who haven't posted a picture, to sudmit their votes to me (and from now on, voting for your own picture isn't allowed!). The system will be familiar to those of you who have taken part in the Cafe's Avatar contests: Give your favourite piece three votes, your second favourite two votes, and your third favourite one vote.

And the winner is..!
Then, on the last day of the month, voting will be closed, and I will declare a winner, based on your votes, as well as two runners up. Winners will get to stick their tongues out at the other entants and gloat to their friends.

Clear as mud?

Good, the we'll begin... :D

And your theme for the Febuary's Drawing Board Open is...

*drum roll*

Love is...

That's right folks - "Love is...". Show us your romantic side, and showcase the classic lovers from either TV, film, or literature, or show us something more personal like your partner, or your the object of your affection!

It can be anybody you like - from your girl/boyfriend, Han and Leia, Joker and Harley, Hamlet and Ophelia... anything, anything at all so long as it falls under the theme "Love is..."!

So, whatcha waitin' for? Your deadline is 25th Febuary, and then the votin' starts - no time to waste... start now!!!

I've already got an idea for my drawing (and yes, it'll be different than the last.). Quick question, though.

February only has 28 days in it. Should that affect the voting date at all?

Stu

Well mines nearly done. I've just gotta add a background.

Not really - I'll just extend the voting into March.

Looking forward to seeing your entry! :)

Love is.... rather uninspiring at this moment.. I think my last one sapped my romantic energy... I think I'll have to ponder this one...

Originaly done for the Famous First contest (tho I forgot the 25th was the deadline and not the end of the month... gomen), imagine my suprise that this can also fit for the feb. contest... and I'll be early!! :p

That's beautiful, and wonderful timing as I only caught 'Growing Pains' for the first time yesterday. Freaky.

Lovely. A perfect picture that will be tough to beat. Colour is smooth and the colours warm and inviting - in a hollow cold bleak way! A negative one on love to kick off!

Sorry late. Sentences bad.. :)

Damnit Bic, thanks a lot for setting the bar so high with the VERY FIRST PICTURE!

Seriously though, it kicks! I love it! The episode you based it on was great, and even though Robin KNEW in the end that Annie was just Clayface, she still stole his heart. Very, very sad episode, and a great picture, too.

Seriously, wouldn't want to follow that one up!

Hey, I might actually enter this one (unable to do the last one because of reasons I don't want you to know). Although from what I saw last time it seems I might have to go against some big "enemies". O_o

Well I'm actually straying from Dick & Babs *gasp*, or anything Batman related for that matter *gasp*. SJJ gave me the idea of something Arwen and Aragorn related (sorry Zorbrak, beat you on that thought by like a week, not like it matters :p ). But that's not what you'll see, lol, kinda. There's an original one I've been working on for a few days now that I'm stuck with, so to help me with some ideas I started some another sketch...except I liked this one more then my original idea. So here this one is until I finish my first. Arwen & Aragorn, roughly concerning him being hurt and a dream image of her being there.

Love is... not without its problems. I can't think of a better caption. -_-'

It was originally supposed to be a picture of my fan character Kayla, and a guy named Tom in a story wrote, but the way it turned out, it can pretty much apply to any situation. He screwed up. She's pregnant. She's tired. Hurray, viewer's interpretation! =)

I might submit another entry if I have time, but no promises.

Owie. My back's stiff. I kid you not by saying that I've just finished my piece minutes ago, after spending over eight hours straight working on it. (I'm obsessive sometimes. >smiles<) But it was worth it. Very, very, worth it.

http://worldzone.net/fineart/silverknight//pics/ns/sr.jpg

This is, to date, the second completely CG pic I've ever created. No pencil, no paper, no nothing. Only that miserable little mouse and lots of eye squinting. But, as stated above, I'm satisfied with it. >cracks back<

I'd better get at LEAST third place with this...>winks< :D

Ooo, sorry Barb, missed this one! Sorry to hear you've had teething problems on the original concept, that's a pity - certainly an ambitious construction but if it's not working, it's not working. Give yourself some space from it and try again, I'm confident you'll pull it off!

Anyway..

Nice picture miss. Aragon especially looks like his skin and fresh personna. It's a simple idea compared to your previous plans, but I think it works nicely. Intimate and delicately sketched. I love the title too suits the picture nicely! I can't make up my mind to recommend some bold inking to strengthen the lines or whether the soft approach should be kept... possibly the latter!

I see NF has done one but I have to rush - I'll make comments on that piece later!

Firstly, I'm really happy that Bic's pic hasn't put anyone off - and that we have such diversity of style and media being used. NF, that's a lovely bit of pencil work. Very loose and full of energy, yet it all holds together rather well. Really is great to see Black and White images being used here - we get so used to expecting colour we've had some very nice pencil/B&W work to remind us what a vital medium it is.

Man, all this competition! Mine can't touch the previous entries, but it's all about fun anyway, so what the heck? :) Anyway, I guess I'll be the first to display love in a different manner. I'm working on another romantic one, but this one depicts the love of a father figure for a "lost" son.

Wow!!! I can't hope to compete with the gorgeous pictures which have been posted so far, but I like this pic so I'm going to put it up anyway (it's good practice for me :)).

This drawing was done in ink, marker and crayon. Please bear in mind that I've never really, seriously tried to mess with coloring something before, so this drawing has all the mistakes and then some of a first effort! ;) (I'll also apologize for poor picture quality - @#*#*%# scanner!)

The couple in the picture are Katie and Kun, from a story I wrote a couple months ago.

Well it's not about winning... well, actually it is, but the pleasure comes from seeing all the wonderful and personalised styles that come from the TZ members. Again we have something which is totally different to what we've seen so far.

Again, it's nice to see some 'earthy' colours and textures which sometimes you just can't beat. You could never recreate the effect of crayon like that on a PC. The picture floats in a dreamy state and again for the upteenth time this thread, my bloody heart melts! :)

I'm getting so soppy! I blame you lot! :)

EDIT - Oo, almost missed BYO's! Not just Batman now, we've staked a claim for Robin also eh? Tut! Nice picture - and one which deals with family love rather than the obvious kind. The casing and Robin's outfit look great!

Tomorrow I'll post mine. Was to be tonight but I left the image on my hardrive and brought an empty disk to the library. Duh!

First off, I think Frozen picked a great theme becuase every picture I've seen so far has an emotion and or theme that just speaks to me. Now on to the individual pieces so far...

Barb: "Love is... Unforgettable" - This is a great sketch. I love the realism of it. Can't wait for your finished piece.

Nightflower: "Love is... not without its problems" - Wow. this really captures the moment perfectly. The choice of the lack of colors only heghten the mood in my opinion.

Silverknight: "Love Is...Surprsing" - Oooo FF8!! Very good espically since it's all CG. And you only used a mouse!? My god, that is extremely impressive!

Batman Year One: Untitled - First off, brilliant choice of using another form of love. This is a very touching piece of artwork and you captured the emotion Bats is going through with just the gesture and posture of him.

Ikwig: "Love is... contentment" - Very very nice. The mood potrayed definately lives up to your theme. Also, them are some nice hands and you were not afraid to show them.

Enrique: Untitled - Ah, the moment of the kiss, and you captured it quite well. The line work is very good, and until you said Photoshop, I had assumed the image was colored my markers.

I'll skip Bic's piece becuase it's really, really bad. :D

Enrique, that drawing is beautiful! I like it! :D

Bic
02-04-2003, 12:26 AM
First of all, this piece did not set a high standard for us. What sets that standard for this topic isn't the art per se, but the mood and or emotion that the artists here have done. In that subtext, I feel that everyone is doing great and even better than I did.

For the curious, I had an idea of Robin and Annie from the get go for the January contest, "Famous Firsts". It wasn't 'til I remebered a scene from one of my favorite shows ever, that the image solidified. At the end of the Ruroni Kenshin OVAs (Samurai X#2 - "Betrayal" in the U.S.) there was a touching scene between Kenshin and Tomoe, where Tomoe watches over Kenshin as he sleeps by a tree.

Robin and Annie were drawing on two seperate peices of paper, Robin first then I put a blank paper over Robin and sketched in Annie in her pose. After the pencils were done, I inked Robin and left Annie in pencil becuase I thought that would soften her a bit and bring out her etheral qualities much better. Boy was I wrong. So I ended inking her digitally, in Photoshop. In fact the two characters are the only thing in the picture that was done on paper, everything else was accomplished in Photoshop. I think the file used about 20-30 Layers and clocked in at 77MBs. (Robin used only four, Annie had about twelve layers becuase I had to have a part of her above Robin and a part behind him.) Originaly I was going to make Annie have about 90% opacity like her wings are, but Robins ear threw it of, so I left her at 100%. But to keep her etherial qualities, she has a halo around her body and she casts no shadow, not even on Robin, though she hereslf has shadows. Btw I really need to work on wings, but the idea for them came from Ah! My Goddess.

Thanx for all the nice comments, gang.

Oh, and SJJ, I found out that assassin mice have a fatal weakness... Twinkies!!! They love 'em. Of course they're beating me at scrabble, like a stick to a rug. ("Zuvex" is a word? Geez, what did you teach these guys?) :D

Crap, Enrique, that is one sweet picture. I mean, seriously cool. You totally surpass my skill in art, that's for certain. Besides, the blank background aspect kinda brings more focus to the characters, ya know? Well, whatever, it rocks nonetheless. Completely, inexorably cool.

This was inspired by watching Batman Beyond ep - 'Out Of The Past'. With Bruce looking at his distrubing 'girls' file he clearly keeps on his hardrive, we have the Barbara issue brought up again which got me thinking. If, as Talia puts it, he loved her - that seems likely to be the definitive reason why Nightwing would have left Gotham.

So here we are, I tried my best not to make anyone the villain of the piece keeping B&B playful rather than overtly intimate. Sometimes life takes on routes we don't expect and this is one I guess Dick would have seen coming but unable to prevent.

Even though Nightwing was offered another chance with Barbara - on several occasions through TNBA - he never took it up. It seemed to me as if he had moved on, or was becoming more like his mentor. However he never looked happy with the Batman/Batgirl team up. Whether it be through resentment of having his role replaced or because he cared for Babs, it was never an easy relationship throughout TNBA. I imagine either way, that the sight below would have made him feel Gotham was no longer his home. In this respect, from his perspective.....

Personally, when referring to the whole Bruce/Babs relationship in BB, I was pleasently surprised. I mean, I would rather see Babs with Dick, but I was glad to see that Timm and co were prepared to go in a different direction than in the comics. They took chances, and that alone earned my respect.

Okay, enough of my rant, onto my thoughts. (>blinks< What...?) Cool picture! It really does bring out the sorrow in Nightwing's character, and the overall bitterness of that whole aspect of TNBA/BB. I like it. It rules. :D

My drawing is done. SilverKnight was nice enough to color it for me and might I say she did a fantastic job!

LOVE IS...Bliss

Ok , I drew this two days ago. I got the idea from watching some of my old drawings. I just drew what came to mind about a couple being in love. As you can see they are on cloud #9 right now and so into each other that for them that special moment is bliss. Do I make any sense. *hides and shuts up*

eee, don't see anything Kylie!

*glares at SJJ* I no longer know you you.....whatever you are. The title should be Love Is...Creepy/Scary as Hell/not right/WRONG....something like that :p Beyond it being creepy *grabs daggers* and insulting to Nightwing, it is pretty cool. I like the dark background and the touch of Nightwing in the back...Watching Them! Plus Bruce looks very TNBA'ish. Tim, interestingly disturb one once again! Poor Mad Hatter...er Alice.

You all make me sick, heh. I really liked the Tim and Annie one Bic, it was great! I love Tim to death, and that was my fav. episode. Then to SJJ, your style is what makes your art. It's just so... so... diffrent, its a new style that is kinda what Glockgal and {Dixey} have. (I am hoping you know who those two are, *tee*)

Everyone is putting me to shame, so, even if I could draw, I wouldn't post. You all shame me... thought like it was said, it doesn't matter about style and skill, what matters is how much fun you have!

Looking forward to all the others that you guys put up!

Bic: A very remarkable piece. This has to be my favorite picture out of all of your work. You really has on key with all of the characters designs and you really shine upon Robin's love for Annie. Five Stars.

Barb Gordon: Such a lovely but simple piece of art. My only complaint is that you didn't give Arwen and Aragorn enough detail by using color but the rest is so pure and angelic. Great work Barb. Two and 1/2 Stars.

Nightflower: Only seen bits and samples of your art and now I see the whole package! What a talented artist you are. I'm not familar with the characters but cares. I really like this piece. It looks like you put alot of effort and detail into this picture. Five Stars.

SilverKnight: I never played Final Fanasty so I don't know these two characters. I really like the color it's very out there and in your face (that's a good thing). The colors really gives the picture a 3D effect and I simply love the "Hugging by a Moon" theme. Four Stars.

Batman Year One: Doing a different apporch than the others, you really out done yourself BYO. I love the whole "Father and Son" theme you used for Bats and Robin. I guess this picture is suppose to take place after the whole BB:ROTJ flashback or maybe just grieving after Dick left. Anyway great picture. Three Stars.

Ikwig: Very nice. I like the colors and the inking. I like how you protrayed the character's. Young love. It's a blissful thing. Anyway I give you...Two Stars.

Enrique: Are you a Marvel Comics artist? If not then WOW. I love the famous love of Peter and M.J. and you really captured it. I'm a Marvel fan so too see a picture on a thread that simple have DC characters is great. The colors look professional and the art itself is amazing (no pun intended). Four Stars.

SJJ: LOL. Man that's just wrong. Poor Nightwing. Shame on you Barb and Bruce. Anyway I love this guy cause his art is simple and pro-like. Great picture and the colors are dark and gloomy which is so Bat like. This picture just makes you feel bad for Nightwing. :Cries: Five Stars.

TimTwoFace: Alice and Madhatter. That's real forbiddin love. I love colors and the funny pose of Hatter. Cool picture Tim. Two and 1/2 Stars.

Kylewayne: I'm not familar with these characters but I like it. I like the colors which give the picture a major effect of realism. This seems like real manga or anime which is nice. Two and 1/2 Stars.

Keep of the great work guys, you all are wonderful artists.

Thanks. :) And the time period I was shooting for was post-Dick/pre-Tim. The emptyness that he had without a Robin was my main goal. :)

>blinks< Well, I'm glad to know you liked it, although "out there" and "in your face" are two qualities I never really try and aim for. Personally, I'm not all that fond of either; usually when I find something to be "in your face" my first instinct is to punch it. But, hey, to each their own... >hands Storm a cookie<

I don't think it is actually insulting to Nightwing. I think it shows what a detremental effect that the pairing up had on Dick and why he never appears in Batman Beyond. Barbara I reckon he could forgive - at a distance, hence Barbara's comment about the stories that Nightwing could tell in ROTJ. But Bruce... with all that goes down in TNBA and then this.. I think this would have been unforgivable - the comment is aimed at Bruce rather than Dick. It also has a double meaning, refering to the love that Barbara and Bruce shared as according to Out Of The Past and the unforgivable shattering of the bond of family love between Bruce and Dick.

Thanks for all the comments *except the above - sniffle ;) * The only think I forgot to add and I think would have made it better is the image of old Babs in the corner harking back to the incident.. inferring another tale to be told upon what Dick actually says or does straight after this image!

TIM: Heh heh. Nice to see the Hatter get an outing on the boards, not exactly the most popular choice! Nice details with the posters and the title is very suitable!

If I can interrupt your "drawing fun" for a moment...

This is the first time I've ever been on this board. I never come here here, mainly because I suck at all things "art". I actually ended up here tonight by accident. That being said, all of the pictures shown here are really something. I know it really doesn't mean much coming from a guy who only knows "art" as the first name of the actor who played "Ed Norton" on The Honeymooners, but it's all excellent work in my opinion. I just find it amazing that there are people out ther that can do things like the work in this thread. I bet all of you can find little problems with your pics (my girlfriend's an artist, and she's always finding faults in her work), but from the point-of-view of a 22 year old nerd who's usually buried in computer parts, it's all great stuff.

Sorry to intrude, but I just felt it was worth mentioning.

Since I have managed to offend the 'religions' of both Nightwing and Catwoman followers - and be stabbed and shunned in the same day  , I decided to rectify the balance. :p

Pencil drawing done as soon as I could scarper home last night. Love is? Well, it's what this picture is about. It's what this thread is about. It's what brings us together as friends. It's to play and make merry! What's love?

Lots more gorgeous artwork since the last time I checked out this thread! In particular, Kylewayne, I love the expressions on their faces, especially hers (it's blissful, and maybe even a little awestruck, in that "Ican'tbelievesomethingthiswonderfulishappeningtome" kinda way).

And Tim, I think yours is my favorite so far, just because it's got neat little details and it's funny, sad, and sinister all at once! :)

Yep, a healthy stab can do wonders.... I hope both of you are satisfied! ;)

Will do. Isn't annoying how sometimes the more popular work takes an eighth of the time? The first 'twisted' picture (and again only as twisted as the source!! Stop blaming me!! :D ) took longer simply for research purposes of getting it TNBA looking... this one was a fast doodle! Oh well, such praise can never be ignored - thanks everyone!

Quite alright! I'm stabbed by you lot so frequently these days I'm surprised you actually found an untouched spot. Well done!

On to the others...

TIM: I far prefer this picture to the Hatter. While it's nice to see a minor character get some limelight, he could never replace the dynamic duo. Nice perspective and a 'twisted' idea! :p

Bic - lovely as ever. Professional and oozing cuteness *gets a mop*. Unusual pairing. Looks like Bats has had one of those days today! :)

DOH! Its not pencil!! Its pen!! :p

when I do cafe sketches or concept sketches I use pen because of the look I get with it... When I'm doing production drawings, though, I'll use pencil so I can go over it easily. Figure drawing I use Conte crayon or a Sharpie... Depending on how sassy I feel that day :D

Well, I made a second entry. The background isn't exactly what I'd expected it to come out as, but hey, I think it has a pretty cool texture to it. (Besides, I learned a pretty nifty trick where I can make photoshop drawings look like they were painted in watercolors. Go me. :D)

http://worldzone.net/fineart/silverknight//pics/af/cloudaerisc.jpg

It's entitled, as seen above, "Love Is...Sacrifice". Be aware that I don't think Cloud and Aeris were in love during the game. But it was obvious that they cared about each other, and Cloud was supposed to protect her, so... Ah...viewer interpretation. (To quote NF. >grins<) Find out who sacrificed what for whom (or what), and you get a cookie! :D Nah, seriously, I have no real clue of any hidden meanings in this. I just thought it looked cool.

SilverKnight: Well the background is good, that I will admit. I liked the version you showed me with the blank background, but nevertheless cracking picture. I love the colouring you have a very natural tecnhique. Lovely proportions and feeling of weight.

Jesteranimefreak: You seem to have mastered photoshop! Colouring is far superior to your last piece I recall. Nice style, and the lettering just brings the thing together.

Salvor: Such style. I like the unique and distinct artwork you have, it's always a pleasure. And I must say, the daredevil central as a very professional image - but that's what we expect from you now! :)

wow Sal, that's intense! Really good coloring, and such a unqiue style. Bottom image is very powerful
Jesteranimefreak, very cute!
SK, just awesome coloring, you really brought the pic to life, especially with Cloud. Background is just as it should be, nothing special, but helps complete the image.

Wow... this months Open is gonna rock! :)

SK - VERY well done as always... :) As well as the champion of those needing the pics colored (hey, you cant knock a good thing... you have a great insight for color :) )

Jester - Rather interesting approach with the penciling.

Salvor - That is a pretty cool style. The colors deffinately match the subject matter AND look of the pic.

Since I didnt get a chance to comment on the others at the time (hey, I've been busy :p)...

Bic (2nd entry) - To use Jade Chan's favorite line from the AS... That is SOOOooo cute!" :D

SJJ - You know how I feel about your art, so I dont need to comment :p

TimTwoFace (Joker/Harley) - dude... thats too damn FUNNY! and very cool as well :) Your use of color always intrigues me (in a good way). Im always a sucker, also, of deformed perspectives.

Kylewayne - Its a great picture that captures the emotion that you wanted to convey. Its very soft and warm to look at. :)

Nightflower - The same comment I said to SJJ :D

Enrique - dude, you have been holding out on us! :p That is such a hard position to draw so get MAJOR brownie points with me.

Barb - Thats the first image I've seen from you. I like hows coming! :) Facial structure is solid and streamlined (I never liked how these fine artist draftsman who say you have to get complex in order to get a face drawn well).

Outlander00 - ... Oh... right, nevermind :D

Man, there are so many great pics that have been put up since I was last here, that I don't know what to say! SK, your FF pic is probably the best FF pic of yours that I've seen yet; poor, poor Aeris.

The DD one by Salvor also rocks - great stylzing! And jesteranimefreak's portrayal is simple but elegant. :)

Allrighty, here's mine for this month:
http://www.toonzone.net/incoming/FebEntry.jpg

I think I remember someone else mentioning that they were doing an entry from "Clone High," I'm not ripping them off, I started this one before I read that, I promise.

This one is entitled "Love is Hard" and if you haven't seen the show, it's about a bunch of clones of historical figures going to high school together. In the foreground we see Joan of Arc who has a crush on Abraham Lincoln (in the background) who has a crush on Cleopatra (also in background). It's a crazy love triangle! You can also see Mr. Butlertron, a robot butler, on his way to comfort Joan.

There ya go!

Outlander00

awwww, poor Joan! I'll take Abe's place... shes hot :D

Seriously... That is a really cool pic... Very accurate as well as far as the style of the show.

Oh well, not matter - doesn't change the fact that the end product is still very good - and for the your require solid work from the original artist - the colourist is merely the icing on an already tasty cake.

If you need photoshop advice - she is becoming a board guru I believe hearing rumours of apprentices... ;) Or is that pet cats...? :D *prepares for more pain as a result of this thread.

Ok, not to sound the the idiot newbie here, buuuuuut. How does one actually post a picture? I know it has something to do with the IMG, but I just don't understand how it is done. Maybe I am wrong... do you need something, or what? Hmmm... that and, computer coloring... is it easy? I know its good, but is it easy, or does it take a lot of work to master it?

Thanks!

James

You need to upload the picture you've scanned to a webserver. There is FTP access here, although you could just make an account at a variety of places and paste the link within IMG tags (there is a button above your posting field to do this)

Colouring requires practise on a PC, but there are lots of ways to go about it. The more you colour, the more you learn.

Any input is appreciated! Get yourself a scanner, and an account at MSN.com. Go from there!

Having stared at Barb's pic for hours on end - knowing it almost as intimately as she does, I have little to add except it was an honour and pleasure to work on. When it comes to colour, she knows exactly what she wants and how she wants it. What you see colour wise is as close as I could possibly get it to Barb's vision.

Okay, I will add a remark. Intense face! Everyone pay close attention to the forehead - those strands of hair took a lot of work to get right! :)

Casity

And Casity, go to this link (http://groups.msn.com) and sign up for a user group. It's rather easy, and I used the exact same service once upon a time.

ah ah, SK colored for Kylie, so I followed suit. Why do you think most of my things are sketches? I suck at coloring, besides, SJJ gets paid in hugs which work for me!!! Anyway...never said we had to color it...like nothing says we can only have one entry....which you like a lot I think, hmmmm? So yeah, Aragorn is basically getting the crap beat out of him by, out of the shot, an Orc I suppose. But the power of love is there for him! You don't mess with the love of an Elf. Amazed at how many people know elvish since no one's asked what mela na ilterendi means!

You posted this very shortly before I did, but there is one error. SK is very popular in the coloring department. SK colored for Kylie and myself.

Other than that, like I said great picture, and WHAT DOES THE ELVISH SAY?!

James
02-09-2003, 05:42 PM
SK coloured for JesterAnimeFreak too... So there is no issue there. As far as artwork goes, I think there is a lot to be gained from 'employing' a colourer! Art Direction! And as i said Barb is a strict art director, I applied the colour, but she is very focused on what she wants! I learned loads from the experience too - plus I get my quota of agreed hugs... :)

As for the Elvish... I'll let Barb reveal that, unless someone is clever enough to work it out.

lmao, it's very funny, how awesome Pat! Mela naa ilterendi is elvish for Love Is Unbreakable. The concept I was going for was that Aragorn is down, as we can see, but not out. True love will pull him through, as shown by the glimmering Undomiel, or Evenstar necklace given to him by his Elf love, Arwen. Their love is stronger then anything, and nothing can break it, nor can anything tear them apart.

Hey Spike, not bad, not bad at all. I only have a couple of gripes:

1) Haruka looks a lot more like a guy. Now it's been a while since I've watched Sailor Moon so I have no idea how she dresses when she's not fighting, but if I didn't know the series, I'd say that Haruka was a guy.

2) Michiru looks a little too "perky" if you know what I mean. ;)

Ok, I am actually doing this. Wow.

I would have gotten a newer one, but we re-painted the room where the main computer is, so the scanner is dislocated at the moment, so luckily I had a few older pics on my computer.

This one is of an original story that me and two other of my friends from school created. I just happen to be the aritst for our stories.

It's story is the boy and girl jumping just show it's a fight scene. The girl kissing the boy in the back ground is the main section that you should see. Heh. She is the good guy, Agent Blue Duck, and the guy she is kissing is the bad guy, Evil Agent Rabaldie.

Weird, but the series are total humor, so yeah...

I know the side veiw of the faces and arms are real bad, sorry.

Now that you know, enjoy! (Don't expect any great coloring like you see from SilverKnight and SJJ and Barb, but I haven't actually downloaded the pain program yet. Hehehe.)

Yea... I know... it's a pretty crappy coloring job, but keep in mind that this is my first time using photoshop and i know i didn't use it to its full potential, but that's the best i could do on short notice with ps 4.

Hope you like it! :)

I really like that, fellow person named Spike :D The girl is all like, "Talk to the hand, cos the face ain't tryin' to hear that, ya know what I mean?" XD The coloring is very nice too - excelent work!

aww, he looks so cute BYO! hehe, musta been a very sappy or though provoking kind of song! Course I think Creed does that do anyone, lol. Really like position of the head and his look though.

And Spike...that's so sad!! Really good scene though. Such basics poses, but it just really tells the scene so easily, really nice job.

Casity - Cool. Pencils are good. A lot going on there and very stylised!
Spike - LOL. First of all as the picture downloaded I thought he was begging offering her money... which paints a rather different picture.. ;) Yes that is a nice idea. Poor guy. Feel for him, but if it's not to be, it's not to be..
BYO - *Pats the baseball king on the head* That's a tough one. Face matches the suggested mood. It works!

Otherwise known as, "Crap I'm doing a lot of art for this thing..."

http://worldzone.net/fineart/silverknight//pics/gm/letgo.jpg

It's a departure from my normal style, but I did everything in here on purpose. I didn't want to just draw a pretty picture or anything; I wanted to convey a point, and I wanted to use everything I had to make that point. The colors are muted and the background lacks detail and is fuzzy. Well, when someone you love more than life itself kicks the bucket, life tends to lose its color of focus, no? :D

Yeah, well, anyway, ignore me. Took me a total of 45 minutes to do all together, so yay me.

Outlander00

*Shakes head confused* Now you all have me confused! Hehehehe.

The two jumping, Agent Red Mad Cow (The girl) and Black Camo Socks (The boy AKA Geo) are fighting two evil agents that I cut out, so you just see them jumping and kicking really.

The girl in the background is their (the two jumping Agents) partner, and she is kissing an Evil Agent. She is what we call fraternizing with the enemy. *Grins*

There is a head at the bottom, which is another person I cut out, and she was beating down some other guy. So you are just seeing a tiny, tiny section of a peice of art. *Sigh*

The words kind of block Mad Cow and Camo Socks, becuase I don't want you to care about them. The main focus is the kissing couple.

I said I wanted the text to block them because my scanner is broken, and I couldn't post a more recent art work of mine, and the style is old, and not as good as I can do.

If that doesn't explain it, make up a story that works *grins and winks*. It doesn't matter really.

Thanks for the complements. Got to run.

It's the small things that make the picture and the piece which really grabs me is Tim's-er I mean Harvey's tie! The folded look at the colours really work.

The line work on the coat as well as the firm form of the Bat are also rather effective. Nice idea, and - as we expect no less from Tim - some great colours to dance in front of our eyes.

Casity
02-15-2003, 10:21 AM
Ack, what do you use to color?! That was great! You don't use colored pencils do you? The coloring was wonderful!

And Casity, I do only use pencil crayons and felt markers. That's about it. All the non-primary colours you see there are just from mixing and overlapping; believe me, I didn't learn all my colour combinations over night. :D

BYO: You have talent. *Grins* Now that we know you can draw the older version of Bruce Timm's Bat, can you draw the newer one? Plus Batman Beyond. *Winks* I know the answer, it was great and cute! I always have loved Catwomen! That reminds me of Perchance a dream, was that the episode? I am not sure, I was never old Batman.

err, uhh... you might wanna get your pencils outta the snow, cuz that's not a pencil drawing :P it's an ink drawing, originally on 11x14" paper, so shrinking it down to the size you see reduces the line width... soo.. yea...
as for backstory, pyromaniac got it. the basics is bruce banner (hulk's human ego) and betty ross are a couple, but betty's father is an army general that is constantly attacking the hulk. so, in true comic style, betty often finds herself in the middle of trouble. you won't see it until i color it, but what's happening in the pic is the hulk is blocking an explosion from betty.

Hey! You did that and did that fast!

My fav. part is the explosion! It's neat how you did the colors! Especially the little flames coming off!

The only question, (I know, I am such a newbie here) is... this is for anyone. Silver Knight was cool enough to tell me about her paint program and all. But, I have a program right now, it's a gimme crappy one. I am planning to download a nicer one like adobe shop 6.0

For the nicer programs, do you color it bit by bit, or can you like, just fill it in! I don't get how you can be so fast. For me, it takes forever just to color the simplest thing.

Do you have to download it or can you buy it? My computer is also a gimme that my brother built for me for Christmas two years back... sloooow. So it would take me weeks to download, if people will even let me do that.

Enrique's caught me thought. How is it done?! Should i just get it and learn, or can anyone help?

(I am sorry for all the questions you guys. I know it's annoying!)

I use Photoshop 5.5 for coloring, and I do it in layers. First I lay down the base colors (in the Hulk image's case, green, brown, blue and flesh) on a multiply layer. Then I add various layers depending on what I want (again in this case, I used color dodge and color burn for highlights and shadows, then some overlay for some more effect). The explosion is on it's own normal layer (masked).
Whether I work fast or not is subjective :p It took me a good... uh... 2-3 hours to color it (and about 2 hours to draw). My style is very painterly, I do a lot of "stroking and dabbing" with the brush, then do blurs and smudges as necessary, and I rarely use anything but the "rough" brushes (always halfway down the brushes menu, where few people look ;) ). I rarely use filters.

Thanks for the help! And you won't guess what I found last night! I was hooking up my mom's scanner on her computer, and noticed a photo shop! *Cheers* It's an older version, but still, it's better than none.

Now just come back to me in a few years and I'll tell you how good I am *winks*.

Thanks for all the help, and SpikeJet, great job! Hmm, personal stor,y eh? Hehehe, nice coloring, didja' know that for colored pencils, if you want to make them look a little more professional, then get some old number 2 pencil and use the eraser to blur it together?

Um, not all the colors of course, like the blue, blur it, then clean the eraser, then do it again for another color!

Maybe I just have crappy pencil erasers, but it helps me!

Two characters of mine, Kayla and Tom. As a bit of background information, Kayla is not human- she's genetically engineered. Tom has a not-so-subtle crush on her, and since she's spent most of her life isolated from people, she doesn't really know how to handle it.

Agreed, has anyone read Batman Sucks Forever? It's full of those and is the funniest fanfiction I have ever read! (I am a huge Batman fan, so don't get me wrong, it's just poking fun with the movies!)

NightFlower *sighs* Why?! You know, I give up. You all are just a little to good for me. I liked the sketch, hehehe. I think that the reason I have trouble is that I am so serious about the smallest line. It has to be dark, so when I mess up I can't erase it. I noticed that you didn't take that to thought all that much, which was awesome! Its cool, and maybe ya' will color it like SJJ suggested! (Um, brighten up a neat idea? *Winks* The word neat may be American, but the rest of the sentance confused me! How can you brighten up an idea?) *Grins*
