is this a theater release or direct-to-video?
Also, i read it's set between eps 22 & 23. I'm recording the series on CN right now. I've yet to see this series in its entirety. Do the events from the film carryover into eps 23-24-25?

The status of the release remains ambiguous.
The series was produced before the film, thus the film does not affect the episodes which follow it.

It is supposed to have a theater release. I imagine it will be like most anime in theaters, limited release in a handful of major cities. Last I heard it was going to come out on April 4th. We will have to see. :)
Like Muninn said, it came out after the series was over, so none of the later episodes hint to the movie. Knocking on Heavens Door is like an extended episode squeezed in between episode 22 and 23 after it was over.
Once you have seen the entire series, I think you will understand better. ^_^

The movie could take place ANYWHERE after episode 9 and before episode 23.

I have a question about KOHD: Is this like an AU film or something because to me it seemed like Electra and Spike had something going on for a minute? I kept asking Spike if he had forgotten about Julia and everything.

The movie takes place in between episodes 22 and 23, before the characters go their seperate ways and whatnot.
Masamune -
I don't think that Spike and Electra had anything going on - their relationship is strictly business (catching Vincent). Spike briefly mentions Julia in one scene (but not by name), but that's pretty much it. Julia and Vicious aren't specifically in the movie though.
It comes out on March 28th (according to this month's NewType magazine), but on Yahoo and Fandango, it says April 4th for LA and NY.

Everyone was hoping for the January release and they are playing musical chairs with the release date. I was wondering if it will be playing in local art house theaters or some bigger ones

you'd think Cowboy Bebop is more of well known name that it could get a slightly wider release. even the buddies of my roomamtes who don't watch cartoons liked CB

It will be in a wider release after it opens in NY and LA - it's usually like a week or 2 after the original release date, I guess...

People tend to say it's after episode 22 because Cowboy Andy is in it. I think he's in it as "Musashi," which strongly implies that it's after episode 22 (although I haven't seen the movie so I can't be completely sure). And of course, it's before ep. 23 because Big Shot is still on the air.

I never saw Andy in the film. I like Electra better than Julia however, but I like Faye Better than them both.

Andy is not in the movie. I saw it with my own eyes.
Andy is just a one-episode character.
The only characters that will reappear in this movie is the old geezers, Faye, Ed, Ein, Spike, Jet, Bob, the Big Shot crew, and that's it.

Andy is in a crowd scene during the Halloween parade. He is only seen very briefly.

It is undoubtedly him! He is dressed up like a samurai, just like he said he would, and he is still riding his horse. Plus the hair and face help too...

CB.. popular? Let's see, the San Francisco airing of the movie sold out about 5 days before it's airing. Never try and get tickets at the last minute, I learned that the hard way :\
